Chapter 4

My face was pale with drops of cold sweat on my forehead. I painfully cried for help, “My stomach hurts, Xavier, husband, please, please take me to the hospital?”

I heard the exclamation and commotion of the bystanders. Then I was picked up by someone. I was firmly held in the arms of a man. The familiar breath lingered in my nose. This was the first time Xavier had hugged me. I can actually feel him in my arms.

“Yasmin, are you okay?” I faintly heard him ask. I opened my eyes in a daze and saw my husband’s handsome face up-close. I trembled for a while and didn\'t say a word.

My head was getting heavier and heavier, my vision was beginning to blur. I closed my eyes and passed out.

When I woke up again, I was in the hospital.

My mouth was very dry. I was about to pour myself some water when the door of the ward suddenly jolted open.

Xavier rushed in, his face evident with anger. He lifted my chin and looked at me bitterly. I raised my eyes and looked at him in surprise.

“What are you doing?” I hesitantly asked.

“What am I doing?” Xavier slammed a document onto my face. I picked it up and looked at it, shocked.

It was my medical certificate. It clearly stated that my body was suffering from constipation and that I needed to take care of it.

“Why did you lie to me?” Xavier roared, strangling my neck hard.

“I didn\'t, I was really pregnant. I probably had another miscarriage. I don\'t know why this happened!” I shouted in disbelief.

“Is this some kind of a sick joke? If you were really pregnant, then why didn\'t you tell me? Why didn\'t you tell me about the miscarriage at the time it happened?” Xavier demanded, his eyes were even colder and more indifferent than before, and every word he said was like a sharp knife that pierced my heart deeply.

I gritted my teeth out of spite, “I am not as scheming as you are to make this up! I was scared you might think I’m just using the baby to threaten you to stay in this marriage and then force me to give it up.”

My hand unconsciously moved to the lower abdomen where a life was once bred.

“Liar!” Xavier became more hysterical, and the hand that strangled my neck tightened.

“Go ahead, kill me! It\'s okay if I die! My baby and I are dead so no one will threaten you with marriage anymore,” I snapped at him.

Not only was I not afraid, but I also glared at him with wide eyes. I wanted to take a good look at this ruthless man before I go.

I thought that if the child was gone, he would at least feel a little guilty, but I was wrong. All he did was question me, slander me, and even strangle me.

“You can\'t threaten me,” Xavier sneered at me as he loosened his grip around my neck. He blankly threw me a pen and the divorce agreement papers.

I glanced at the papers and laughed bitterly at myself. The man who broke my body and heart, and slandered me for some money, was really ridiculous.

Ironically, I kept a straight face, picked up the pen and signed my name one by one.

  “Is that enough?”

Xavier\'s pupils shrank subconsciously, but I didn\'t think too much about it.

The door slammed shut behind him as endless tears streamed down my face.

My heart is dead. At the moment when he forced me to rush to the end of our marriage, all my love and hatred died along with it.

Everything was my fault. Falling in love with a man who doesn\'t have me in his heart, thinking that I can warm his heart if I showered him with all my love. In the end, he thought it was all futile and he chose hatred instead.
