Chapter 4: Bad but good

Xander

I was more than surprised when I had watched this low level demon, not so low-level after all, literally make a fool out of my advisor, who is known to be ruthless and is one of the high level demons in the kingdom besides me, of course. I've also never seen a fire demon with purple flames either. I watched as she moved away, her long black hair swayed to the moves of her hips, those dark green eyes that turned purple when the flames arose, her fair complexion didn't even have a single scratch, and her dull aura all of a sudden raise several freaking questions.

I moved swifly away from the screams of Rosa as she was trying to put her teeth back in her mouth. I teleported to the back door and I smirked as this women turned around and stopped as she saw me. Her eyes were filled with alertness, anger, and some form of urgency. She took a step back, getting in a fighting stance, but I saw in her eyes that she was ready to run just as well.

She spoke first, "What do you want?" Her voice was barely a whisper and was lanced with warning.

I put my hands up, letting my anger subside, "I'm not going to hurt you." I said with a calm voice, "I just want to know who you are. That ability of yours is rather unique."

She narrowed her eyes, "What's it to you!?" she hissed at me.

My rage wanted to come out but I squashed it down again, "It seems like you don't know me. I'm King Xander, rule of the otherworld, first son of the late King Magnus."

She scoffed, "You want a cookie or something?"

I blinked a few times, "I'm sorry?" What in the world?

She rolled her eyes, "The crown is a nice touch. I figured you must be of royalty. I ain't dumb you know."

I curled my lip, "You know who I am and you still have the aduacity to speak to me like that?"

She hissed at me, her eyes flashing with domanince, "Don't test me! I aint in the mood. I just lost the one good thing I had going for myself thanks to my temper!"

Both of our nostrils flared at the same time, "We're getting off on the wrong foot here." I sighed before contiuning, "I wish to speak to you about a job offer."

She raised an eyebrow, "You want to offer me a job?" She gestured behind her, "After seeing what just happened?"

I gestured to Rosa, "What you did... was incredible! I've never seen a demon with an ability like that. I need someone... that can match my ruthlessness, my temper."

She looked baffled at me, "My temper is the one thing that has always gotten me in trouble." She looked angry all of a sudden and took another step back, "My ability is also something that has only given me trouble. You aren't the only one you wants it!" She hissed the last part at me, her eyes glazing over.

Before I could speak again, Markus was there, a look of pure fear and anger gleeming through his eyes, "Why didn't you tell me that you were also a fire demon? We cancel each other out!"

She glanced at the door behind me. I could feel her need to run away, "I'm not technially a fire demon..." She whispered. Markus and I both stared at her, waiting for her to explain. She signed, closing her eyes for a thoughtful moment before contiuning, "I don't know what I am to be honest with you." She gestured to the door, "Please move or I will make you move."

Markus stepped between us, his back to me, "We aren't done here. Far from it! You own me an explanation!" He raised his voice at her.

Rage burned bright inside of me, swirling around. I grabbed Markus by the back of his neck and slammed him against the wall. "No one! No one speaks to her like that! Do you hear me?!" I roared the last bit, causing the walls to shake around us.

I was unsure of why I had done this. It doesn't make sense. I've never stood up for another being before, least alone a female. I turned back towards her, dropping the stupid fire demon on his ass. Her green eyes held some sort of sparkle, almost like she's never seen this happen before and she was intrigued.

She swallowed hard, "My name's... Logan." Her lashes fluttered some as the music changed, almost like the frequency was causing her problems.

I gestured to the back door, "Maybe we should go somewhere else for a little bit. There's a cafe across the street that I hear has great muffins." Did I really just say that? How the hell do I even know about the cafe? Or the muffins?

Logan nodded, ducking underneath my arm as I held the door open, "I'll hear you out, but any funny business, and I'm leaving."

I followed her, watching her behind sway as we headed across the street to, what do you know, a cafe and the smell of yummy muffins were sticking to the air like crazy. She didn't let me get the door for her, but rather held it open for me instead. This was going to be interesting for sure.

I followed her up to the counter and waited patiently with her until the barista appeared. Logan ordered a hot chocolate, with a chocolate chip muffin. I ordered an Americano and a poppy seed muffin. I didn't want to not order one when I'm the one who mentioned the muffins in the first place. We took numbers and sat down at a table in the back, placing our numbers on the edge of the table so the waiter could see where to bring the order.

She sighed, glancing everywhere but at me, "You said you had a job offer?"

I hestiated, staring at her. "I want to know more about you first. What brought you to become the fire demons manager?"

She shrugged, chewing on her nails, "It was just the next town on the list."

I frowned, "Next time? You've traveled a lot then?"

She nodded, "I have to stay moving. I only wanted the temp job Markus had oringally offered, but he liked me for the manager position."

The barista showed up suddenly, put down both of our orders. Logan quickly grabbed her hot chocolate, taking a small sip and I thought I could see a small smile on her face, like she was enjoying a little secret of her own. I took a small sip of the Americano and frowned. I conjured sugar packets to the table and opened up my coffee, pouring in more sugar.

Logan raised an eyebrow, "I'm surprised. I didn't think demons liked sweet things."

I smiled, "I ain't like most demons. I'm rather unique, as you should know, since your unique as well."

She frowned, looking away, "About the job offer..."

I signed. I didn't want to ask her just straight out. I needed to use something as levage to get what I wanted. I still technially had 3 months before the deal was up, however, this women. Something about her was calling to me. I didn't want her to leave my side. The urge to always keep my eye on her was unreal, almost like it possessed me. And given the fact that my conplusion didn't even work on her, makes it unbelievable that she's went so long without being discovered by others.

I glanced at her and she was watching me, waiting. "This might seem rather insensitive, but I'm a rather straight-forward guy. I don't do this often either."

"Do what?" She asked, taking a small bite of her muffin.

I gestured to this, "I don't do the human realm. I don't do cafe's and I most certainly don't ask things of people, but this is something important and I need you to understand the situation I am in."

She nodded, worry showing in her eyes as she understood what I said, "Go on."
