Chapter 2

Lost memories

"Sir, she has a fever." Misty said while wiping the woman with the wet towel. She already has a comforter that was rolled in her entire body, but she's still shivering in the cold. Gavin also asked the maid to turn off the aircon for her.

"That's normal. She was floating on the ocean with a lot of deep wounds," the old lady said while preparing everything to treat the woman.

"Are you sure that she can treat her?" Gavin asked. He never once met anyone who's not a doctor who knows how to treat an ill person. That's why he couldn't help but to doubt her capabilities.

"Sir, she's the only one we have here. There's no doctors or nurses near the island," Misty said while panicking.

"Whatever. Just make sure to treat her," he said and marched out of the room.

"Sir, I can't be wrong. That woman is the one who's currently missing," the old man mentioned, the husband of the old lady who was treating her. Gavin quickly stopped when he said that.

"She's all over the news. Even here on the newspaper," he said and showed him the newspaper. He quickly stole it from his hand and read it furtherly.

The old man was right. She was missing and her family is looking for her. Two clans are searching for her, offering a million to anyone who can find her. But then, none of them knows if she's alive or dead as they couldn't find her body yet.

"Listen," he uttered before he gave it back to the old man. "I want this to be a secret. No one should know who is not until I say so," he clarified in his baritone voice, using his authority.

"Yes, sir!" The old man answered.

"Miguel," he called one of his men.

"Yes, sir?"

"I want you to go back there and tell me what's happening," he ordered while pouring alcohol in the glass.

"Do you want me to investigate what happened to her?" Miguel asked.

Gavin froze for a moment and was lost for words. His head was a mess. He doesn't know what to do for a while. Should he keep the woman here? Or send her back to her clan who's looking for her? Because for some unknown reason, something's bothering him, making him suspicious about something.

"Do what you can do," he replied.

When the man left to obey his orders, his phone rang again. This time, it was Estevan who's calling him.

"I'm busy," he said immediately before they could even pester him again.

"Have you heard the news? We want to keep you updated," Estevan said over the phone. He was not surprised anymore. He already knew what he was talking about.

"What news?" He asked and still pretended not to know a thing about it.

"It seems like there's another chaos between clans in this Mafia world. The heiress of the Gabriel is missing, her plane exploded. Do you know her?"

"He probably does. Gavin knows every Mafia boss," he heard Gabe comment on the line.

"Yeah. She's the famous sword woman, the who kills with her sword." He uttered. Of course, he knows her. He never met him not until this coincidence happened.

"Do you believe that her plane just exploded?" It was Larisa.

"Ask Gavin. He's the one who always suspects things," Gabe uttered followed by a chuckle.

"I don't know. I'm too busy to care about their mess. As long as our clan is not involved, there's nothing to worry about." He answered with half of his brain already pondering the situation. They do not even have any idea that Amara Gabriel is in his place.

Now that Larisa mentioned it, his instincts tell him not to surrender Amara Gabriel. But if he doesn't, he will be involved in whatever mess she is in—not just him, but the entire clan of Clyborne.

"Well, I think it was not just a plane crash. I believe someone's behind it," Estevan mentioned.

"Stop wasting my time," he muttered before he ended the call and was left staring into nothing.

"Sir, the woman is now safe." Misty said as she went downstairs with the old man and the old woman who acted as doctor.

"She's getting better. Rest is all she needs. I also took care of all her wounds. What happened to her? All her wounds were serious," the old woman asked with curiosity. Those wounds were not even ordinary.

Her husband behind him remained silent and was only staring at Gavin.

"Can I ask all of you a favor?" He asked. That moment, he didn't know what he was doing anymore.

"Sure, what is it?" Misty asked with a wide smile.

"Can you not tell anyone that the woman is here?" He asked. That's the only thing he can do now. But it doesn't mean that he will keep her in his place. He's not making any decisions yet.

"Why? What for?" The old woman asked.

"You'll know soon," he replied. "I just need some time to think."

"Of course, sir. We will keep this a secret," the old man answered.

"I think that's better. It seems like the woman is in danger based on her condition," Misty mentioned, wearing a tiny smile.

"Did anyone see the woman earlier?" Gavin asked. He wants to make sure that the news about that woman will never be out of the island. It must stay there between them.

"Some fishermen saw you carrying her. But don't worry, I'll speak to them." Misty mentioned.

"They are my friends. Don't worry, I can talk to them. The people here don't have a big mouth," the old man said, which relieves Gavin for a while.

"Thanks. Misty, please let them eat and pay them for their work." Gavin commanded Misty.

"Yes, sir."

"Sir, the woman is awake!" The maid upstairs yelled at them.

"That's fast," Misty mumbled.

All of them quickly went upstairs to check the woman. And there was she, staring at the ceiling with her eyes blinking repeatedly.

"She's really awake," the old man commented.

"Where am I? Who are you?" She asked when she spotted all of them at the door.

"Calm down. Can you tell us your name?" Misty asked as she doesn't have any idea about who the woman is.

Gavin was watching her with his sharp eyes, observing Amara Gabriel.

Her brows met as she looked at Misty. She couldn't answer her question.

"My name," she uttered.

"Yeah, your name." Misty said.

"I-I…don't remember my name," her eyes went to Misty, confused. "Who am I? What happened to me?"

All of them became silent. Misty was in awe. Her jaw almost dropped in front of the woman when she said that.

Gavin's brows met while watching Amara Gabriel.

"Does she lose her memories?" The old lady asked.

"She did," Gavin uttered.

Amara Gabriel lost all her memories.
