“Hey honey, you back?” Evy’s mom asked aloud when she closed the door.

“Yes, mom,” she answered her back and moved her feet towards the kitchen.

“How was your school?”

“Usual,” she said to her innocently. But as it is said, nothing can be hidden from a mother, so her mom instantly knew that her school went better than usual.

“Of course, honey, your gleaming eyes say that school was fantastic.” To which she stuck her tongue out.

“Uh, mom, I have invited Hailey and Owen to hang out. You don’t mind, do you?”

“Of course not,”

“Love you, mom,” she took an apple and ran to her room.

Evy’s room is the favorite part of her home. It is not that huge, nor is it tiny. It is covered with beautiful lavender colored wallpaper, which has a white floral print design. In the middle of her room is her comfy bed. On one side of her room is the study table, which is attached to her bookshelf. On the other side of the room is her dressing table. Unlike other girls, it is not loaded with hundreds of cosmetic items. Instead, it is just filled with basic stuff that every girl needs to have. On the left side of her room is an enormous window. But unfortunately, her window doesn’t show her a beautiful view of a beach or a sunset or sunrise. Instead, the view outside her window is the house of the famous Edward Loraine.

Anyway, keeping her thoughts aside, Evy sat on her comfy bed with her laptop resting on her thighs and the pillow supporting her back. She opened the best social networking site which connects you to the world, F******k. When she left Woodstock, Evy deleted her F******k account because of her insecurities, but she activated it again when she pulled herself together and started a new life.

When she opened her account, it was filled with messages, notifications, and friend requests. First, she checked her notifications and then messages.

Messages were from a few of her friends asking her about her first day at Rosewood and how they were missing her. So, she replied to their messages, telling them a little about her day here. Last but not the list, she checked friend requests, and it was filled with hundreds of them. She is not lying, nor is she exaggerating. Before a year, she hardly had ten to fifteen friends on her list, and now the entire school wants to add her.

Interesting!

Evy accepted everyone’s request. It actually took her an hour and a half to accept all of them, but that’s okay. She was kind of enjoying this.

Knock knock!

“Come in!” Evy said loudly.

“Heya,” Owen greeted me.

“Gentleman as always,” she smirked. But Owen was looking around her room as if he was searching for something —Or she would rather say, someone.

“Hailey will come in half an hour. She had to pick up her little sister.”

“Okay. Well, I didn’t ask for her.” He was scratching the back of his neck.

“Oh, come on, Owen, you need not lie to me. I know that you like her.” His eyes were wide.

“I just met her today.” He tried to defend himself, but the poor guy always forgets that he can never win an argument with her.

“Yeah, right, that’s why you were giving her your famous hugs.” Evy rolled her eyes.

“Well, I don’t know why I did that, and anyway, she is too good for me.”

“Well, I think you both are perfect for each other. In fact, you both will make a cute couple, and both of you are single as well.” Said suggestively.

“She is single?” Shock took over him.

“Yeah, she has never had a boyfriend before. Remember, I told you. And you should go for her. I mean come on, you are waiting for the right girl, and she is waiting for the right boy. Maybe you both are right for each other.”

“Maybe you are right. I should finally start looking for a girlfriend,” he said while rubbing his temple.

“You don’t have a girlfriend?” Hailey suddenly blurted out of nowhere.

“Oh yeah, I never found one. How about you?” Owen asked.

“Same here. Well, I can’t have a girlfriend, you know,” raising her eyebrows.

“Well, you can have one, you know, if you are—” Owen tried to mimic her.

“Ha-ha hilarious, I am very much straight.”

“I was just suggesting.” He shrugged.

“By the way, Evy, your mom asked you to come down in five minutes to get the snacks,” Hails informed her.

“Well, I better get going now.” She ran downwards, but before she could enter the kitchen, she heard the doorbell.

Unlike last year, instead of hanging out with his friends, Eddy went straight home after school. He locked himself up in his room. He looked across from the window to have a sneak-peek into Evy’s room, but she had drawn the curtains. She never closed them, but the messages were clear that she needed space. He opened his F******k account and thought of adding Evy to his friend’s list. When she left Woodstock, she deleted her account. But he guessed that since she is back now, she might activate her account.

He thought for a minute and decided to send her a friend request. He was a bit apprehensive about the situation and was staring at his laptop for quite some time, but still, there was no reply. When he was about to give up, he had a notification that said Evelyn Brook accepted his friend’s request. He took a deep breath. Eddy was glad that she at least accepted his request.

That’s a start, right?

After fifteen minutes or so, Eddy’s mom called him down and asked him to deliver the cupcakes to Mrs. Brook. He took the cupcakes and made his way towards Evelyn’s home. Her mom and his mom are pretty good friends, and so are he and Evy. Well, they were before he goofed everything up.

He pressed the bell and waited for the door to open. He secretly wished for Evy to open it, and luckily his wish was granted. Evelyn was standing in front of the gate with nothing but shorts and a casual loose tee shirt with a frown on her face. She looked adorable.

“Mom asked me to give this cupcake to your mom.” He told her. She looked down towards the cupcake, and there was a glint in her eyes. Evy always had a soft spot for sweets. She loves them.

“Mom, Edward is here to see you.” Without giving Eddy a second glance, she rushed to her room. She didn’t even speak to him, just ignored him.

“Oh, it’s you, Eddy.” Mrs. Brook came towards the door.

Eddy gave her the cupcakes and was about to leave when Mrs. Brook stopped him.

“Edward, why don’t you come and join Evelyn, Owen, and Hailey for their movie marathon?”

“Uh, no. Thank you, Mrs. Brook. I have some work to complete.” He immediately made an excuse.

“Okay! And call me Ella; you are family, and as it is, Mrs. Brook makes me feel old.”

“Okay, Ella,”

Eddy left and went to the nearby park. He sat on the bench. He was speechless. Every year on the first day of their school, Eddy, Evy, and Hailey used to have a movie marathon. But instead of him, Owen was continuing their tradition. He broke their tradition last to last year as he ditched them for his new friends but never once thought that his action might hurt them.

He even didn’t like the way Evy acknowledged him. He felt like a stranger. He remembers once when he treated her the same way when she came to his home to pass a message from her mom to his. Eddy didn’t want his friends to tease him or know about the fact that he cared about the beautiful nerd standing in front of his house. But to his dismay, all his pals started laughing at her. Well, he did want them to take it as a joke, but he never thought it would have hurt Evy so much.

The situation was the same, but the only difference was that now the tables have turned.

Now he is really having his doubts about the theory of Karma.

  • Is Karma A bitch   22 - Epilogue

As time passed by, everything got normal. As normal as it could have been with time. Evy and Eddy didn’t directly start with a relationship like shown in movies where lead stars kiss and make up. They took things one at a time. They decided to take baby steps, took their own sweet time, and enjoyed their moments of patching things up. They built their past relationship by being best friends again. Evy slowly and steadily started to trust Eddy back again. It didn’t take much time as she thought it would have taken. She was content and at peace with how things were going. Eddy thought it might be a bit slower, but he knew for the fact that it was necessary. He and Evy both needed time to understand each other and also the dynamics of their relationship. All three, Hailey, Evy, and Eddy, caught up on old times and filled the missing gaps, and Owen, Carson, and Kayla also accompanied them. It didn’t take long for Eddy and Evy to become best friends again. Yes, initially Evy was a bit care

After the break, Evy tried searching for Eddy, but she could not find him, and when she did, he rushed to get away from her. He was avoiding her. It seems that the tables have turned now. Finally, after school got over, she rushed towards the road where he was walking home to catch up with him. But no luck. He soon disappeared from her eyes. While walking, she was carefully glancing around to get a glimpse of him. Finally, she saw him sitting on the swing in the park where they once used to play when they were kids. They had wonderful memories of their childhood, where there was no peer pressure. They were just kids who enjoyed playing with each other. The only stress they had was completing their homework and getting enough space to have fun and what games to play with each other. Eddy was lost in his thoughts when suddenly Evy came out of the blue. He noticed that she was trying to talk to him, but he thought of it as his illusion. “Why didn’t you drag me to an empty room to ask m

  • Is Karma A bitch   20 – Karma did its Work

Both Evy and Eddy skipped school the next day. But both of them knew that they would have to face each other soon. Evelyn didn’t know what to tell Eddy when she met him, and whereas Eddy was concerned, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to handle rejection from her. The next day, both their friends forced them to go to school. In the morning, Mrs. Natalia called Evy into the staff room to talk to her. “Evy, stop hurting yourself.” She said when she saw Evy in a disheveled shape. “Hailey and Owen told me everything. They are concerned about you." “What should I do?” Evy asked, clearly desperate to know the answer. “Just follow your heart.” Mrs. Natalia said. “I did that before and see where it had led me.” “Evy dear, everything happens for a reason. You need to let go of your past with him. The heart will lead you to difficult situations where it will ache and break, but it is never wrong.” Mrs. Natalia’s words were stuck in Evy’s mind. During the break, Evy finally saw Eddy and co

After the incident on the day of the carnival, she ignored Eddy’s call. It was the weekend, and she locked herself in the room. Luckily, her parents were out for a meeting, so it gave her a chance to be alone. She even ignored Haley, Owen, Carson, and Kayla’s calls. There were many missed calls from all five of them. She texted them to leave her alone and kept her phone on silent. They even tried to come to her house, but no luck for them because she didn’t open the door. She knew what they would tell her when she would unfold the complete story. Soon it was Monday, and she would have to face reality. She reached school but signalled them instantly to not ask her about anything, much to their displeasure. But her four friends already knew the whole story as they made Eddy tell them. Eddy was already getting impatient, and the sudden presence of four of them made him blurt out the incident that happened in front of her house. None of them knew how to help him to get him out of the com

  • Is Karma A bitch   18 - Carnival

Finally, the day came. The biggest carnival was organized by the ‘Woodstock High School’ cultural team. Unlike all those years in the past, this year it was a hit. People were enjoying it. “You guys did an outstanding job,” Eddy told Evy, Owen, and Hailey. All three acknowledged his appraisal. “Let’s enjoy this carnival. I want to play games and even want to go on rides.” Kayla exclaimed excitedly. “Of course, Kay. So, shall we?” Carson put his hand forward for his girlfriend to hold it. “Of course.” Making her giggle. Now only four of them were left. Hailey and Owen were looking awkwardly at each other. They didn’t know if it was a good idea to leave Eddy and Evy alone. “Guys, seriously. You two lovebirds go and have some fun.” Evy said. “No, it is fine. We are fine.” Hailey stated to her best friend. She didn’t want to leave Evy alone. “Ok! If on the count of three, you two didn’t vanish from my sight, then I’ll never talk to both of you.” “Okay-okay, we are leaving,” Owen s

  • Is Karma A bitch   17–Tit for Tat

“Hey, babe.” “What do you want, Victor?” Evy said, coming straight to the point. “I want you to go on a date with me.” Evy felt Edd stiffen beside her, and she could feel his fingers turning into a fist. “Nope.” “Did you just deny me?” He was dumbfounded. “Yes,” she said with a blank face. “Who do you think you are? You should be honored that I am asking you on a date.” He exclaimed, clearly gaining attention from everyone in the cafeteria. “Excuse me.” Standing face to face with Victor even made Eddy stand up as they both were handcuffed. “You should be honored that I am even noticing you.” “Look, guys. The loser nerd has got guts talking back to me. If I want, then I can easily ruin you.” He was fuming. “Oh my god, I really would like you to try.” Eddy wanted to butt in, but Evy’s glare told him to back off from her business. “Changing your looks won’t make you popular, you know.” “I’ll rather stay as an outcast than being popular like you. You know, it’s unbelievable th
