PROLOGUE

The road is quiet, perhaps the night is getting deeper. A motorcycle parked in front of a convenience store, and from the motorcycle emerged a girl named Verania Portier. As she took off her helmet, her beautiful face appeared, with her hair flowing after being freed from the helmet.

But if you sense this girl, you'll know she's not just an ordinary girl. Even just by her attire, you can tell. She's wearing military boots and black pants, with a gray racerback top covered by a leather jacket. Her posture exudes a certain toughness.

After arranging her motorbike, she went straight into the convenience store and grabbed a gallon of ice cream from the freezer, taking it to the counter. After paying, she hurriedly left the store and gasped when her phone in her pocket rang. It was her friend calling.

The caller was Ares Montero, the son of the current Mayor who was running for Governor of their province. "Oh, you called? It's late," the girl said gently, but weariness could be heard in her tone.

"I'm on my way home. You know, coming from a date," Ares replied cheerfully, causing the girl to furrow her brow.

Approaching her parked motorcycle, she opened the givi box to put the purchased ice cream inside. Once she had sorted everything, she answered the call again.

"A date? Didn't I tell you not to stay out late because of the death threats you've been receiving? You're so stubborn, Ares!" Verania said irritably, facing the quiet street.

"Well, that's the doctor I'm trying to impress, you know..." he reasoned, causing the girl to be even more displeased.

"Even so! Go straight home!" she ordered him like a mother, but Ares seemed amused by her concern.

"Noted!" he replied cheerfully, still not ending the call.

While she adjusted her motorbike, the girl let the phone be for a moment but was distracted when she heard a loud noise. It seemed like a collision, and she was right. When she looked up towards the once quiet street, she saw a familiar car that had crashed into a pole.

At the same time, a motorcycle with two riders passed by, and it was clear to her that one of them was holding a gun.

Vera was still in shock when her gaze met the pillion rider's eyes. In her surprise, the phone slipped from her hand to the ground. Her eyes widened, staring at the car that had crashed into the pole, now recognizing whose car it was. It belonged to the person she had just talked to on the phone, Ares!

The person who shot from the car was also someone she seemed to recognize, which further shocked her system.

She wanted to report what happened, but she couldn't. She had a feeling that she knew the suspect and couldn't easily betray that person to the authorities.

Verania stood there, unsure of what to do. The cashier from the convenience store, where she bought the ice cream, called an ambulance promptly. The cashier was also startled, but their shock couldn't match what Verania was experiencing.

Though used to war, she still couldn't believe what her eyes had witnessed. She didn't see the suspect's entire face, but she had a strong hunch that the person was someone she knew, and even worse, someone close to her.

Will she report this for the sake of her injured friend?

Find out.
