Forty-One
We spent Sunday laughing and playing at the park. Liam and Bri were the best family I could ask for. It was kind of funny when a guy came up to me to try to flirt. Liam ripped him a new one. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself at the poor guy's reaction. He looked like he wanted to hide under a rock.
We talked about school, Liam has dropped out and got his G.E.D instead, and Bri was about to start second grade. He made me promise him that I would go still try to go to college after high school, which meant I had to start going to school again so I wouldn't be truant. He made it clear that he wanted assurance that I was going to have a good future.
When we got home, we ate lunch, and then Bri fell asleep while watching television. As soon as she was out, Liam and I went out back for our daily lessons. We only work with the punching bag today, because he said I wasn't ready to fight him yet. It only made me more eager to learn.

I watched the guy's every move. The way he shuffled his feet, his posture and even the way held his fists. The bell rang, and some music started blaring again. It was 'Awake by Godsmack'. I slammed my foot into his side, but he didn't even stumble. It seemed to anger to giant instead. He stepped towards me and swung his fist into my rib cage. Julie's P.O.V. Jax pulled Liam and me into his office. The well-dressed man pointed to the couches for us to sit down, so we did. Jax sat on the loveseat across from us, looking very pleased. "You have skill, my little friend," Jax said to me. What was up with him calling me little? I just kicked ass out there. "Thank you," I replied simply. "Okay, so I'm sure that Slasher has told you that you are required to fight at least once a month." I nodded. "Now, just a warning, all of the guys are probably getting cups now that they saw what you did to Slam. You should find another attack. Every time you fight, you get to keep all the money you win. I don't charge the fighters. I only charge the audience." I smiled, and he nodded. "If you get involved with any of my fighters, keep it out of the gym. Church and State." I laughed and nodded to him. He shook my hand. "Welcome to the family." He handed me some money, and I took it eagerly.

Jessie's P.O.V. After school, I grabbed my swim trunks and sped to Tim's house, eager to spend as much time with her as possible. He laughed when I got there so first. I used his bathroom and got changed. The guys were there in their swim trunks too when I got out, waiting for Julie. We sat there for about half an hour when the doorbell rang. We all ran to open it. I parked where Liam had showed me we could park for practicing, and I raced inside. Liam had wanted me to be here fifteen minutes ago, but I had gotten stuck helping Terry with some housework for a couple minutes. I half walked, half ran into The Cage, waving hello to Jamie at the door as I passed him. Liam was beating the shit out of a punching bag. I walked over to the wall behind him and sat my bag down. Jessie's P.O.V. "What the hell is this?" My father screeched as he held up my pack of cigarettes. He threw them against the wall as hard as he could, smashing them and wasting my money. "Dad, it's just cigarettes. It's not like I'm doing drugs!" My dad sneered at me. I stood up off my bed, and my father walked up to me. I pointed to the pack of cigarettes and yelled back at him. "It's not that big of a deal. You always have to try and find something to get pissed off about. Why were you going through my bag anyway? What is your problem with me? You can go around fucking every woman you meet behind Mom's back, but I can't smoke every once in a while?" He grabbed my hand that was pointing at him, and he was about to push it out of his face, but then he froze. His eyes locked on my wrist. I struggled to pull away, but his hold was too tight. My hand moved forward to push against his chest, trying desperately to get free. He spoke quietly.

"Julie!" I heard Liam yelling for me from downstairs. I hopped off my bed and ran toward the sound of his voice, my foot catching on air as I stumbled into the hallway. "Yes?" I bounced off the last step. Liam was standing in front of me with his normal seriousness. He pulled me into the living room and sat me down on the couch next to him. He spoke quietly so the others wouldn't hear. "I just got a call from Jax. They don't have any openings in the fights this weekend, so they are doing it closed-door tonight." I nodded, and he told me how we would have to go as hard as we could. This was to see if the newbie has enough talent to be a fighter there. I felt good that I made it. Not only was I now an official fighter, but I was going to be the determining factor on whether someone else got in. I hugged Liam and whispered in his ear before pulling away. "Kick his ass for me, bro." He smiled and nodded before swiftly climbing into the cage. I walked over, closer to Jessie's side of the ring, and yelled, "Good luck, Jackass. If Slasher lets you live, then I'll be the one to finish you off the next time I get a go at you." I smirked, and he just stared at me for a while, his face filled with pain before he masked it, shook his arms, and stretched out his neck. I glared at him before walking back over to Liam's corner, cheering for him to kick Jessie's ass. They knocked knuckles, the bell rang, and the music started, but no one threw a punch. They danced around each other, waiting for the other to make the first move. It was a smart strategy on Jessie's part, knowing that Lima's style was to let them tire out before striking. Liam, sick of waiting, took a step forward and swung at Jessie, but Jessie ducked and ran to the opposite corner.
