"This wasn't the deal," Reid whispered. His breathing was erratic as he pressed his back against the wall, clenching his fists. "We could make a new one," Killian smirked, trailing his thumb on Reid's lips... "Probably after this kiss." ~~ Bad boy Reid McKenzie will go to jail after being charged with murder. His mother wouldn't be willing to help him; he has ruined their reputation enough and is ready to let him rot behind bars; following the wishes of her second husband, she would wash her hands of Reid for good. But fate intervenes when a mysterious stranger, Killian appears. He offers Reid a deal; Freedom in exchange for a dangerous task. However, Killian's true intentions are far from benevolent. As a powerful demon, he sees Reid as a pawn in a sinister game. With each passing moment, Reid must decide whether to trust the enigmatic stranger or face the consequences of his actions.
View More"There he is..." I shouted, entering the classroom and I strolled over to the blonde-haired guy along with my two friends. "I see you seem to be forgetting about our little deal," I said and stopped at his desk.
"Please, Reid, we can talk things out," He whispered, but I acted as if I didn't even hear him. I took his course book, glancing at it as though reading its content, and then pronounced his name. "Thaddeus," I smirked glancing at his scaredy face. "Should Thaddeus be disobedient?" I asked his seatmate, whose wish was visible on his face, for me to get out of their class, but that wouldn't be happening anytime soon. I needed to teach a liar a lesson. "No—no." "Good. You might as well get your ass outta here." I ordered and Thaddeus seatmate immediately obeyed. "Reid---" I didn't allow Thaddeus to complete his statement when I hit his head on the desk with force, and his classmates all made a surprised gasp. "Do you want to take the punishment instead?" I heard Dylan ask and the class went silent. "Looks like none of them likes you..." I smirked in satisfaction seeing that Thaddeus already broke his nose. "Please, Reid. I promise it was a mistake; I didn't mean to go against you." Thaddeus pleaded. "I had asked nicely you know..." I spoke softly tapping the back of his head. God, I could feel his heartbeat even from his head. "You should've known better than to cross me, Thaddeus. As a department leader, you're supposed to recognize the consequences of betraying someone like me. So pitiful." I spoke with a hint of disdain, my hand closing around his hair, twisting it sharply and Thaddeus gasped painfully. "I'd be gentle," I whispered, my voice dripping with menace. Then, with a swift motion, I slammed Thaddeus' head onto the desk, the sound echoing through the room. His classmates' muffled screams followed. I bet the noise could be heard in some departments. I brought Thaddeus' face to me... A sly grin spread across my face, seeing how much I was ruining his face, which had already turned pink with a trace of blood in his nose. He's no different from me after all; at least his victims will begin to call me a hero. "Just one more," I say tightening my hold on his hair again. I could bet he wasn't going to survive this time. "What's going on there!" Someone shouted from the hallway. "Shit." I cussed, releasing Thaddeus' hair at once. "We gotta go..." Dylan said as we hurried away from the classroom. "Why are you roaming around?" The professor asked as he watched us walk towards him after leaving Thaddeus's department. "Sorry..." My other friend muttered an apology as we walked past him. ••• I got home early that day, as college seemed boring without my best friend, Alvin present. He had been sick for a while now, at least after we got into a small fight, and I hadn't even checked up on him; I should do that today since I had already caused trouble and would be given a suspension. I walked into the big house owned by my mother, but now it's my stepfather's property; Mrs. Ashwood had willed it to him on their tenth wedding anniversary. "I'm back!" I announced dryly as I walked over to the staircase. "Reid!" Mrs. Ashwood shouted, and I stopped on my track, glancing at her. She was holding a phone when she appeared before me, her hair in a mess, probably making dinner for her family as I rarely joined them at dining because of her and her husband. Even though I had a good relationship with my stepbrother, Abel. I still didn't feel like a family while with them. My mother and Mr. Ashwood's marriage would never be accepted by me. "What?" I asked sternly. "It was the college professor who just called me." My mother began slowly, and I rolled my eyes, knowing they already reported me to her. When would Godwin College professors learn to know that my mother had no control over me? "Did they tell you I almost killed a sucker today again?" I asked sarcastically. "Will you please be decent for once!" "Shouldn't Abel's decency be enough for you?" I uttered. "Not for me, but for your Father! Do you think he will be glad to see you getting expelled for being such an asshole!" "Not again..." I whispered under my breath. "For God's sake let him be at rest---" "Rest my foot!" I spat interrupting her. "Isn't while he was still in sickbed you got engaged to your second husband?" I fired. "Either of us, you're the one to be blamed if he's not happy up there!" "What's going on?" I heard Mr. Ashwood's voice from the staircase. When did he appear? I rolled my eyes at him as I walked out of the house, hearing my mother starting to whimper; her husband could comfort her. I hopped in my car as I pulled out of the curb driving away furiously. Now you know why I don't join dinner... This is a good time to sleep over at Alvin's place. I thought as I continued driving. It took over twenty minutes to arrive at Alvin's place. Fortunately, he lived alone except when his girlfriend came to visit him. I parked my car and walked over to Alvin's apartment. I stopped to knock, but there wasn't a response, and I allowed myself in after noticing the door was left unlocked. "Hey, bruv," I called as soon as I stepped into the living room. "Christ, why's here dark?" I mumbled switching on the light. "Reid..." I heard the faint voice call me, and when I lowered my head, I saw Alvin lying in his own pool of blood on the floor, his neck bleeding. "Holy hell! Alvin..." I called as I rushed over to my friend. "What the hell happened?" I asked feeling my heart begin to pound. "Will---" Alvin's voice was so low that I could barely hear him this time. "Stay with me, I'm gonna call an ambulance," I said in one breath as I tried to find my phone. Geez... Did I leave it in my car? "Fuck, Alvin, Alvin!" I called, but Alvin wasn't responding; his head that was on my lap slowly slid away, and I could feel my best friend breathless already. "Fuck, Alvin!" I shouted again frantically, my hand and white T-shirt soaked with his blood. Then, before I knew it, there were police sirens wailing."Let me drive..." I got in the way before Ronan could enter the car."You're still a minor." He said.I scoffed. "Joke's on you, I'm twenty!""Remind me again you look seventeen." Ronan walked past me and slid into the driver's seat.Did he just insult me? I turned to him, but he had already shut the car door.I promised to be kind and respectful towards Mr. Vampire but not him. Who the hell did he think he was?I slid into the driver's passenger seat, glancing at Ronan. "You know you are starting to make me go back to disliking you.""I have seen a lot of it... Vampires are hated, so I don't care.""Yeah, not as hated as demons.""That explains it." He chimed in.I swear I need to speak with Mr. Vampire to just allow me to drive myself to school. He brought the car's engine to life and sped out of the compound.Sometimes I do wonder where the hell this place was located. It didn't look like the normal city I used to see—and there was no way it was located outside of the state."I hea
"Come in," I said, my gaze fixated on the door. The door creaked open and I watched Reid walk into my office with a mug of coffee."I asked Ronan to bring that." I lied. I had asked to meet Ronan to let Reid bring that to me instead."He asked me to bring it for you because he had something to do..." Reid stopped on his track with a confused look. "Should I take it back? And ask him to bring it?""What?" I raised an eyebrow. Would he really do that? "It's fine..." I whispered.Reid nodded a little as he got closer, placing the coffee before me on the desk."How are you feeling now?" He asked.I took the mug, bringing it closer to my lips, and I took a sip from it before casting a look at him.He has always been inquiring about how I was doing from Emilia and Ronan who wouldn't hesitate to ask me that—when have they ever bothered about my business? But then Reid had put them up to the task, since for the past three days we really haven't met with each other, and now he was asking by hi
The Ferryman was seated across from me. Emilia and Ronan stood behind him, their gaze fixed on me.It had been more than three days since the incident with Maximus and I had almost lost all my powers.I had passed out instructions for the incident not to be known by anyone, but the Ferryman had been alerted. He was the one with the chart of our existence after all."Should I begin? You've been ignoring my presence ever since I arrived," Ferryman Carlos said."I'm busy," I replied glancing at Emilia. "Or don't we have a lot to do?""Yeah. We do." Lia whispered, though it was just another lie to keep him away, just like the other days.I knew what he was about to say and I didn't want to hear it."I'm here already and can't leave just like that." He mumbled."Then go straight to the point," I said fixing my gaze back at him."You haven't started with your soul catch? It's taking so long... You are also aware that the human advocate, Reid hasn't brought you any souls yet, which means he
I was seated on the sofa. My gaze was blank, heart still pounding in my throat.Emilia and Ronan had joined us in that uncompleted building.I didn't know how they moved me, but I knew after we arrived they had taken Killain to his room, and for the past few hours, they had yet to show up."Hey." I heard Ronan call, but I wasn't looking at him yet, my fingers were clenched together. My guilt is winning over me. It was my fault—I was the bad luck; whoever knew me or associated themselves with me would either end up dying or becoming miserable.I swallowed hard, fighting against my tears that I had shed countless times when Killian went unconscious."What's up with you? I thought you hated the boss too." Ronan said. Was he here to torment me?He had better learned to stay away from me, otherwise he might be the next person in that situation."He is doing fine now," Ronan informed me and I quickly looked up at him.I didn't care how teary-eyed I was or how he might torment me with how I
I snapped my eyes open, groaning at the pounding headache in my skull."Shi, what happened?"I squint my eyes at my surroundings, trying to process where I was, only to see that it was still the familiar compound I had walked into with Mr. Vampire. And who the fuck was that? A second vampire?I didn't need to be told before knowing that he was an enemy just by taking me away without Killian being aware.I rose to my feet, still feeling my head spinning. That motherfucker was so fast, he had dropped me with force, and I remember hitting my head on the goddamn wall.My phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket.. It was an unknown caller, but it looked like the number Killian had dialed on my phone. Had he left me behind?I clicked on the green icon. "Wh—ere are you?""Reid!" Emilia's voice rang out from the other side of the phone. "Where are you! Is Killian okay?" She inquired, her voice laced with worry. How is Killian's phone with her?I groaned, scanning my surroundings again. "H
The sudden gust of wind slammed into me, nearly knocking me off my feet. But I held my ground, bracing for the next attack—when I snapped my gaze toward it, and reality froze immediately."Show yourself," I said, my voice firm."You caught up quicker than I expected." I felt the corrupt atmosphere of a rogue, then a smoky, dark wind curled through the air, before solidifying into Maximus’s form.He was dressed in a black silk coat. His hair was rough and long, falling on both sides of his shoulders, my attention fixed on his white and pale face.It had been decades since I’d last seen him—back when he was still a high-tier demon, not this corrupted husk."I almost got fooled," I replied, clenching my fist."But you didn't. Looked like some of your members caught up, you are still as sharp as always." Maximus remarked."You know it is part of my job to get rid of rogues like you. I bet you're already getting too comfortable with having to rule as a king of a rogue." I'm sarcastic this
