Chapter 4

Is 10 dollars the last price? The seller burst into laughter as a result of what I said. I smiled weakly and fixed my eye directly into her eyes. She mockingly asked why, don’t you have money? I nodded shamelessly. She scanned at me properly from my hair through to the eyes down to my footwear.

You look handsome but you don’t have money. Anyway, how much do you have she said? I quickly brought out the 5 dollar note in my pocket. She received it with a smile. Do you care for my business card? She asked.

I was speechless and thought about it inwardly if there was the need to collect her business card. With a weak smile, I nodded shamelessly. The crowd around the book stand attention was focused on me. I felt embarrassed. She picked the card from her back pocket and stretched fort her hands in my direction. I was reluctant and looked at her.

A deep voice came from behind where I was standing. Young man, collect the card you will definitely need the other episodes in the future. I turned to look at him. He shook his head to encourage me to collect the card. I smiled and turned to the seller. She handed over her buzz card to me. I thanked her and left.

At the training section, Baba Moore taught us how to roll continues to hit an opponent. I caught it fast because I had already read about it. I was instructed to roll four times continually towards him and find out if I could hit him. I wanted to demonstrate to show the group members that it was not by mistake that I was the first to receive the black belt.

Without wasting time, I went to the far end of the field and started rolling. I suddenly rolled four continues and hit the chest of Baba Moore. He underestimated me. I hit at his chest heavily and by the time he was aware had landed him on the field panting.

All the group members gathered around him to console him. We had no option but to close for the day. My name was the topic for discussion that day. Some of the members insulted me at their various places of abode.

The following day Baba Moore was the first person to be at the training grounds. By the time we arrived Baba was already there exercising. We waited patiently for the arrival of all the group members before training was started. We had to continue from where we left the previous day.

I didn’t know that Baba was hurt yesterday and had decided to punish me. He asked me to roll towards him. The instruction was to roll four times. In the process of rolling Baba intentionally kicked one of my hands which led me to lose my balance. I, therefore, landed on the ground improperly. As a result, I got injured. I got a fractured ankle.

My left leg started swelling. I felt some pains and had no option but to limp. With a support stick, I limped and gradually went home. I couldn’t go out on my usual errands. I was locked in the house for three days. The pain had increased tremendously.

A twin sister in the house who was a nurse by profession brought an ointment held the ankle and began to shake it gradually until I realized there was a sound like “click” in the fractured ankle. It was not easy for me.
