ALEXANDER

I chewed what was in my mouth. I hadn’t had a meal that good in years, and the look on his face wasn’t enough to make me stop. I gulped it down without raising my head, continuing to wolf down the spread of delicacies on the table until I heard the scrape of his chair as he stood and walked away.

I didn’t look up. I finished eating quickly, then rose to my feet and returned to my room, finally full. Rubbing my stomach, I felt pleasantly bloated. I wanted nothing more than to wash up, climb into bed, and sleep when a knock sounded at the door.

I got down from the bed and opened it to find the butler smiling warmly at me. My heart dropped, fear creeping in that my table manners must have offended Alpha Damon. But then the butler said, “Your Majesty, please change into the dress you wore earlier today. The head maid will be here shortly to escort you to the Queen’s palace.”

I blinked in confusion. Then I remembered the dresses, gowns, and lingerie I had seen in the closet at noon, and I realized this beautiful room had not been prepared for me at all. It had been meant for my sister.

“I’ll change right away,” I replied.

Then I shut the door.

Although disappointment settled in my chest, it did not hurt as deeply as I thought it would. I already knew my place in his life. I was neither his first love nor his first choice. I was only a cruel joke—his fated mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess as if to mock him.

When another knock sounded at the door, I had already changed back into the dress I had worn at noon.

“Come in,” I said.

The door creaked open, and a woman stepped into the room. She was about five-foot-four, with a petite frame, big bright eyes, and a warm smile. The tension in my body eased immediately.

“My queen,” she said, “come with me. Let me take you to where your true authority is.”

For a moment, I almost believed her. Then I shook my head. I knew her words were only meant to coax me out of the room. Still, I had no choice in the matter, so I followed her.

When we stepped out through the back door of the main palace, I saw another palace standing not far away, barely a hundred meters from it. A plaque hung at its entrance. Its architecture felt strangely homely. Unlike the main palace, it did not try to project power or authority. Instead, it felt welcoming. Flowerbeds bloomed all around it, and trees lined the courtyard. Children ran about laughing. There were no armed guards here. Unlike the main palace, where everyone looked as though they were teetering on the edge of death, the people here looked alive. They smiled, chatted freely, and carried themselves with ease.

I was led inside and then taken to my room.

The head maid looked at me with a smile and said, “Your Majesty, if there is anything you want, please call for me. My name is Christina. Just say my name, and I will appear at your door immediately.”

“Thank you,” I said with a smile.

My gratitude seemed to startle Christina. She must not have expected it, because her lips stretched wider, and her eyes gleamed with excitement.

“We are here to serve you, Your Majesty,” she said.

Then she bowed and left.

I turned to the wardrobe, itching to change. I wanted to strip away everything that reminded me of my father’s house. I did not want to live with those memories of rejection and humiliation. Every breath I took while carrying them felt unbearable.

My eyes widened when I saw that every dress in the wardrobe had been tailored to fit me perfectly. A smile touched my lips. One by one, I brought them out until I found the one that felt the most comfortable.

I kept wondering who had arranged for the dresses, but I was too exhausted to think much further. I climbed into bed and fell asleep.

When I woke the next morning, fear gripped me at once. But then I remembered that I was no longer in my father’s house. The tension drained from my body, and I relaxed back into the bed, closing my eyes to steal a little more sleep.

When I finally got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up, I came back just in time to hear a knock at the door.

“Come in,” I said.

Then Christina walked in with her signature smile. She bowed her head slightly before greeting me.

“Good morning, Your Majesty. I hope you slept well?”

I nodded. “Yes.”

I was surprised that the servants in the palace were nothing like the ones I had grown up with. They were not snobbish at all.

Glancing at my closet, I asked, “Christina, do you happen to know who arranged the outfits in my wardrobe?”

Christina replied with complete certainty, “Your Majesty, of course you know who did it. Apart from your husband, who else would dare do such a thing for you?”

My hand, which had been reaching for a blue round-neck dress, froze. I turned to look at Christina in disbelief. I knew Alpha Damon far too well to believe he would do something so thoughtful for me. She must have been conditioned to always speak well of her master.

I quickly got dressed, and Christina led me to the dining room, where I was served a variety of delicacies I had never tasted before. To my surprise, every single dish suited my taste perfectly.

“I knew you would love it,” Christina said. “Your husband instructed us to prepare several dishes and make sure everything was freshly made. He also mentioned that you love meat, and it seems his assessment was right. I think he cares about you more than anyone realizes.”

My eyes widened. Alpha Damon, who had barely spared me a glance since rescuing me from my stepmother when she tried to sell me to human traffickers, cared about me?

Impossible.

ALEXANDERWhen Christina saw that I wasn’t crying, throwing tantrums, or having an emotional outburst, she exhaled in relief. If she knew how helpless I truly felt, and the realization I had come to accept, she would not have been so relieved. Then Christina said, “Since you can’t go to the dining table, I’ll bring your meals here.”I watched her walk out of the room and pursed my lips tightly. When she returned, she came with several maids carrying plates of food. Soon, everything was laid out, and as I reclined on the bed, I was fed.Christina sat directly opposite me and fed me herself. I opened my mouth from time to time and ate in silence. When I had eaten enough, I stopped. Christina and the maids then cleared the plates, and after she left, I decided to close my eyes.I barely slept when a violent tug yanked me awake. My head buzzed, and through my blurred vision I saw a face hovering above me. The heavy breath fanning across my skin chased away the last traces of sleep. When I

ALEXANDERBlood rushed to my head, and the humiliation was more than I could bear. My chest tightened with so much anger that I could barely breathe. My vision darkened, and I fainted. The first thing I felt when I came to was the soreness in my throat. Then came the excruciating pain—pain that was all too familiar, only this time it was worse. A horrifying thought followed immediately: those bastards had forced themselves on me even while I was unconscious. Even then, they had still taken turns with me.The pain in my chest was unbearable, and hot tears rolled down my cheeks.“You should be used to this already.”I recognized that voice at once. Of course—it was Alpha Damon. Who else could speak such cruel words with such cold righteousness? My eyes flew open, blazing with anger. I knew they were bloodshot, and the force of my glare hurt me, but Alpha Damon only looked at me with an expressionless face. Then he chuckled.“They all seemed very excited after taking turns on you,” he sa

ALEXANDERMy father’s face darkened, and his eyes turned cold. He looked at me with gloomy disdain before sneering.“You want to commit suicide? Go ahead. I’m already the First Elder—whether you live or die changes nothing. I’ve already achieved my dream.”Then he stepped closer and looked down at me.“If you die, I’ll seek compensation from your husband. I’ll be handsomely rewarded for your death. So go ahead and die. I’m about to take another wife and have many children.”When he finished speaking, he turned and headed for the door.I had never expected my father to be so heartless. His cruelty offered me no comfort at all. My voice came out slowly and weakly.“He sent someone to rape me. I was raped, Dad.”My father had already reached the door, but he suddenly stopped. For a few seconds, he stood still, and a spark of hope rose in my heart. Then he turned around with a deep frown, and his next words shattered me.“Alex, Alpha Damon is your husband. He has the right to decide what h

ALEXANDERI saw the flash of surprise in his eyes, but it lasted only a moment before curiosity replaced it. Raising his brows, he asked, “Were you in love with me before now?”I pressed my lips together tightly. The image of a benevolent Alpha I had once carried in my heart had completely shattered. In my eyes, Damon was worse than a beast, and I had no intention of confessing the feelings I had once harbored for him.He must have seen through me, because he burst into laughter. The sound of his voice, which once made my heart flutter and sent pleasant shivers through me, now grated against my ears and chilled me to the bone. His gaze turned cold, and with a face twisted in disgust, he sneered, “Your love is nothing but a calamity, Alexander. Look around you. Everything you love is doomed—your mother, everything. You are a bringer of misfortune. The people you hate always prosper, but ever since you loved me, you have brought nothing but pain into my life. I lost the woman I loved de

ALEXANDERI became worried and anxiously reminded him, “Dad, you were there when he threatened me in the elders’ council hall. He meant it. He came to my room last night and told me he would send me to those envoys’ bed, Dad…”To my shock, my father’s face remained expressionless. I could not tell whether it was because he was drunk or because he was deliberately pretending that what I was saying was some kind of joke. The next moment, he burst into laughter.I stared at him in confusion, my brows knitting in displeasure. He laughed so hard that I began to wonder whether he was mocking me or if the alcohol had clouded his mind.“You have been overthinking,” my dad said, waving his hand dismissively. “No man would send his wife to another man’s bed—not someone as proud as the Alpha.”When I realized he would not listen to me, I pleaded, “Dad, take me home with you.”He looked at me with wide eyes, then scolded me angrily. “Don’t even think about it. You are going to remain here, Alexand

  • LUNA   Chapter 11: My Dad

ALEXANDERI sat on my bed, panting. The damp fabric clung to my skin, reminding me that my nightdress was soaked with sweat. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I struggled to catch my breath. I hadn’t even realized someone else was in the room until Christina asked softly, “My Lady, are you alright?”I turned to her, blinked a few times, and shook my head.Worry creased her face as she moved closer. “Should I get the Alpha?” she asked.“There is no need,” I replied quickly. I had already angered Alpha Damon the last time he came to my room. Even if he were told I was dying, I doubted he would show up.Christina sat beside me on the bed and studied me for a moment before asking gently, “Was it a dream? Do you want to share it with me?”Again, I shook my head. I was already used to keeping things to myself.I was still anxious, my thoughts tangled around the dream, when Christina reminded me that breakfast was ready. At once, my worries seemed to scatter. I climbed out of bed, hurried in
