FAZER LOGINTari's hands were tied together above her head, dangling between the thick iron rods that held her captive. Two men stood behind her, both holding a thick cane.
The courthouse was dead silent, everybody stood patiently waiting for when the flogging would start. Ebiere kept fumbling the thin fabric on her hand. Every curve of her face was etched with worry, giving Tari that pitiful look. She wished she could just walk in and stop all of this, staring at Tari's wound she knew it was going to reopen and the damage would be worse. Antonia still had that devious grin on, her gaze fixated only on Tari. The thrill, she couldn't wait to see her suffering. For some reason best known to her she hated Tari to the bone. Antonia's gaze moved from Tari to Barasa, whose eyes were fixed solely on Tari. His calm and cold demeanor, the way he carried himself. She shamelessly bit her bottom lip, just staring at him was enough to turn her on. Tari glanced up and her gaze locked with Barasa. She felt a cold shiver run down her spine, and for a second or two she questioned if she had made the right decision. Here she was hanged like a chicken about to be roasted, well she was about to get beaten. "My dear, you can still change your mind now before the flogging starts. Kneel and apologize it will cause you no harm" The fourth chief said. "I'd rather die than do that" Tari spat, tone dripping with defiance. The fourth chief sighed. "Let the punishment begin." The female chief announced. Tari thought she was prepared, until the first stroke landed harshly on her back. Her body shivered as sharp discomfort shot through her system, her eyes widened for a millisecond. She wasn't given enough time to process before the next stroke landed painfully on her back. Her body shook violently again, she gritted her teeth hard till they were almost cracking. Then the third stroke came, followed by the fourth, then the fifth, the sixth and they kept counting. Tari's whole body shook, she fumbled with the rope restraining her from fighting back. She bit her cheeks hard till she tasted blood, refusing to scream or show any weakness. Ebiere held her breath, she wanted to run there and stop them but her legs felt numb. It was too late there was nothing she could do to stop them. Antonia was already smiling, showing all of her teeth. The thrill. Watching Tari in distress gave her a sickening joy, a tingling sensation that reached her bones. The sound of thick cane landing on skin echoed across the court. Six! Seven! Eight! Nine! Strokes upon strokes. Antonia was on cloud nine already, fucking cloud nine. Ebiere held her mouth crying, Tari might be the one receiving the strokes but she was also feeling the hurt. Seeing Tari suffer it was like seeing her own child go through misery. It was at the twentieth stroke when Barasa spoke. "Stop" Barasa ordered. Voice calm yet cold, loud enough to stop the men holding the cane mid air. Antonia's smile dropped and Ebiere exhaled. The court froze everybody watching in silence as Barasa stood up walking to Tari. Tari stared up at him, beads of sweat formed on her forehead rolling down her face. Her eyes were watery but she refused to let any tears drop. She didn't know how long she could hold on, but still she wouldn't beg. The chiefs clenched their fists, wanting to protest but they were never opposed Barasa, never. To everybody's surprise. Barasa walked to the table where all kinds of canes and whips were laid, he picked the one with thorns and walked to stand behind Tari. "I will take it from here." Barasa calmly spoke. Antonia's triumphant smile returned, she almost clapped. Even better this way, let Tari get what she asked for. Ebiere fell to her knees. The people's faces changed from disgust to pity in a second. The Chiefs stood, none of them could do anything about it. Tari was done for sure. The question was what did she do to Barasa that provoked him to punish her himself? The Barasa they knew never participated in this minor punishment, if he did it would be a death sentence. "Frost" The fourth chief called shakily. Barasa didn't acknowledge him, and he fell back on his seat. "She is Chief Yokeme's daughter" The third chief who was Tari's biggest opponent spoke. Even he feared Barasa's wrath. Barasa raised the whip, the tension in the room rose as the whip landed on Tari's back. She froze. Gasps erupted, everybody held their mouths. For over ten seconds before the second one came, tearing into her skin, her bandage flew open immediately wounds reopened. The whip wrapped round her stomach from her back, tearing into her skin bite by bite. She opened her mouth to scream, but no words came out. The tears from her eyes fell freely, her body shook. She struggled. Then the whips kept descending on her non stop. Whip! Whip! Whip! Whip! Whip! It was at that moment, Tari realized she had no idea what physical anguish meant, until now. Suffering, anger, all of those emotions. And Tari, she has never ever felt this kind of physical hardship, never in her life was she ever beaten. She broke and cried, shamelessly. Tears burning her eyes she refused to beg but she didn't stop herself from crying. Barasa too didn't pity her. He kept landing the strokes on her already bloody peeled back. Tari cried and screamed until, she lost her voice. Her mouth was wide open, as tears fell freely. Suffering. For the first time in Tari's life she regretted ever raising her hand on someone. Tari's knees shook in the next second they gave out, and she was hanging mid air with knees bent and her hands hanging. Her lids became heavy, already closing on their own. And the last thing she heard before darkness took over was Barasa whispering something into her ear, just seconds before the one hundredth stroke landed on her and she blacked out.Tari hit the floor with a tug, dust scattered into thin air."Fuck," Tari spat and struggled back onto her feet, folding her palms into a fist and aimed it at Freyana.Freyana's eyebrows twisted, a small smile of amusement appeared on her face before disappearing into a smirk. This would make it the seventh time she threw Tari over her shoulder, sending her flying to the floor with a heavy tug sound. And still with so much pain, Tari still stood up to fight every time. Really amusing. Add to the fact Freyana wasn't even going hard on her."You look damaged, still won't give up?" Freyana questioned, her fist held high in front of her."What do you think?" Tari questioned. Her face and body were already battered with cuts and wounds."Cool," Freyana replied."But not cool enough," Freyana declared. And with that, she did a tornado spin and threw a kick at Tari.Tari wasn't even given the chance to react, before Freyana's foot met her face and she was smacked to the floor for the eighth
"I'm at the parking lot, I will be up in a bit," Mitari breathed."What room again?" She questioned."Okay, forty nine," Mitari nodded, the call came to an end with a beep sound. She closed her eyes, threw her head at the headrest, releasing short raspy breaths."I can do this," Mitari pep-talked herself. She swallowed the invisible lump in her throat, hands trembling as she reached out to the passenger seat and grabbed the injection lying in it.It's a small syringe containing the poison Musa had given her."I can do this," she nodded, unsure of what to do next.Mitari's phone screen lightened up, she checked to see it was a text from Musa."Remember, don't act suspicious," Mitari read, she couldn't even bring herself to reply and just threw the phone on the passenger seat.Mitari rested her face on her palm, then cleaned her eyes, shaking her head slowly. She looked into the rearview mirror and could barely recognize the face that stared back at her.Pink bob wig with long bangs, he
"Can't we just skip today's cleaning? I am still sore from last night," Tari grumbled, walking side by side with Freyana while shielding her face from the sun."That is why you don't pick a fight with a member of Veinhill, talking more of a chief. Literally Chief Athena," Freyana responded."She started it when she attacked me," Tari defended, already frowning."Girl, you've got balls," Freyana complimented. They walked in silence for a while, before Tari's gaze spotted a mud house. She raised an eyebrow and pointed at it."What is that?" Tari questioned.Freyana's gaze followed the direction of her finger and landed on the mud building."It belongs to the Five," Freyana replied, looking away."The Five? And the infrastructure here is kind of nice," Tari questioned. They walked past a group of Veinhillers, who threw irritated stares at Tari."They are like the gods of Veinhill. Frost — he is the godman of Veinhill. You've had your encounter with him, and I'm pretty sure you know the k
"I will make you a deal." Barasa paused."You work only for me, I will—""Tari!""Tari!"Tari's eyes snapped open almost immediately. She blinked repeatedly, adjusting to the brightness of the room. After a moment she turned her head to the side, only to see Ebiere sitting beside her on the bed."Thank goodness," Ebiere exhaled."I thought the situation was serious when you were brought in last night," Ebiere spoke softly."What happened?" Tari questioned, wiping her eyes with the back of her palm.Tari tried to sit up, but a wave of pain shot through her body, sending shivers through her veins, and she fell back onto the mat."The fuck?" Tari muttered."That is what you get for messing with a chief. And not just any chief — Chief Athena. Are you even in your right mind?" Ebiere scolded, making Tari frown.Ebiere sighed."I am sorry for raising my voice at you," Ebiere apologized."But there are rules here. You do not disobey or fight with a chief here in Veinhill. They are like the g
"Is this what you called me for?" Tari questioned.Arms folded round her chest, a frown on her face as she stared at Barasa's ass.He didn't even spare her a glance. He walked into his closet then came back wearing just shorts.Tari's eyes followed him as he walked past her, purposely bumping into her. She staggered and let out a scoff after regaining her balance.Barasa settled on the bed. Almost immediately, an automated floating table carrying a first aid box floated to Barasa, settling beside him.Tari raised an eyebrow at the table. Tari glanced up and let out a startled gasp, holding her chest."Geez, you are so ugly that your eyes scared me," Tari lied.Barasa wasn't ugly; he was in fact a handsome jerk. She knew that. His piercing gaze frightened her. The way he stared deeply at her, like she was some transparent being and he could see right through her.Barasa gestured for her to come closer. She stared at his gesture and frowned."Look, asshole, I am not your fucking slave,
Tari wiped the last speck of dust away from the enormous painting. She climbed down from the ladder, a loud exhale left her lips as she sat on the giant couch. She stared at the dirty bucket of water for a long time, before staring at her dusty dirty hands.Never in her twenty-six years of living has she ever imagined a life like this for herself. There was nothing she didn't have while she was still in the city — was it power? Wealth? Name it, she had them all.Never in her life has she ever touched a rag, talk less of a bucket. She lay gently back on the couch. Her eyes closed, letting exhaustion take the best of her, but before she could drift off her lids snapped open.Tari's gaze landed on the huge painting on the wall, of a woman covered in a black veil entirely with just her lips left out."I can't do this anymore," Tari muttered, sitting up.She had cleaned the entire tower with Freyana, with Freyana letting her do most of the work."Tari," Freyana called, walking into the roo
"Command, Frost coming in," Frost spoke, hiding behind a sandbag.Gunfire poured in his direction from different angles, most of them hitting the sandbag, while he barely missed some.He racked his gun, and turned to see his target but a bullet came out of nowhere so he had to continue hiding."Com
"My lady," Antonia called, as she walked into Chief Athena's quarters.Chief Athena glanced up with a smile. With a wave of her hand, all the maids attending to her rushed out.Athena stood from the bed, then walked to the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, overlooking the buzzing town of Veinhill."Spea
The tension in the room was palpable. Everybody had their heads bowed as Tari paced the office.Face twisted into a deep frown, as she paced to and fro. Two billion in missing funds, gone just like that. And whoever the culprit was, was an executive in the company. And when she catches that motherf
