Chapter 464

Author: Light Breeze
Dexter was exhausted, but he scooped Tina up with one hand and asked her questions as he walked. She didn't keep her guard up around him and told him everything she knew, which amused him.

As he let out a low chuckle, he exuded maturity and charm. Every nurse who passed him by stole glances at him, wondering who he was. After all, the black limousine on the first floor was exceedingly glamorous.

It was night, and Eleanor was feeding Tessa.

The window was ajar, and a gentle breeze slipped through the cracks, bringing some stifling heat into the room. Fortunately, the chill from the air conditioner kept it at bay and cooled off the room, making it comfortable.

This was the third day after her labor, and Eleanor took a shower, washing her long hair meticulously with shampoo. Afterward, she felt refreshed and much more at ease. Even Tessa could smell the sweet scent when she held her mom.

Eleanor's long hair cascaded over her back as she lowered her head and gazed at Tessa, her expr

Dexter's eyes prickled as he patted the leader's shoulder. "Looks like I really have to thank Julian for this."He composed himself and looked at the sun, which was slowly rising. He shouted, "Move out!"The sun shone on his tall figure, and he marched toward the ocean in his eye-catching outfit.Eleanor easily saw him among the crowd, and she shouted, "Be careful, Dexter!"He didn't turn around. All he did was raise a hand and wave it.…A team of close to 300 men launched a full-scale search operation in Brafton for three days and nights. Throughout that time, Dexter's legs were soaked in the salty, brackish seawater. The skin nearly peeled from his legs.Every day, he would only look for a place to take a nap when he was too tired to go on. Each nap was only half an hour long at most, and he would get up to continue searching when he felt energized again. After three days, he was almost running out of food. That evening, sirens wailed across the skies in Brafton."Tsunami a

Dexter hurried downstairs, not even bothering to check on Jessica's body. When he got to Ascent Group, Eleanor was in the middle of a meeting. The company's middle and senior management sat in the conference room. They saw Dexter, who'd helped lead the team last year, approach Eleanor while looking pale. He placed a hand on her shoulder, and the management staff couldn't help thinking that he sure was bold.Everyone was still busy digging for gossip when Dexter spoke, his voice hoarse. "A tsunami happened at the place where Sawyer is camping—we have to get to Eboris now. I've already called home, and my parents will stay there for some time to care for the children."Your mother can't handle them alone, and I'd worry about things going wrong. We have to go now, Eleanor. I've already told someone to make the arrangements."Eleanor was stunned for a moment. Then, she turned to her deputy, Rex Klepton, and said, "You continue the meeting. I need to…"She wanted to remain presentable

  • Leaving You Bereft   Chapter 486

Eleanor was used to life like this—she was used to being Michael's wife. At the same time, she was also used to having Dexter around. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him a slave after everything he'd done over the past year.No matter the reason, she would seem cruel by turning him down. But if she took this step, they would become lovers. Perhaps the girls would be fine with it, but what would Sawyer think if he were to find out? Would he think that she'd betrayed Michael?Eleanor's fingers trembled as she slowly returned the cigar to its rightful place. That night, she didn't sleep well. She dreamed that Michael was with her. He stood beside the bed and gently called her name. "Eleanor, have you gone to Eboris to see Sawyer yet?"It was hard for her to breathe in her dream. She reached out, desperate to catch something. But what could she catch? Michael was dead, so she couldn't touch him. All she got was a handful of frosty nothingness.Michael remained amicable in her dr

Sawyer frequently wrote letters home. Despite being in an age where telecommunication was fast and convenient, he still preferred to write physical letters to Layla, Eleanor, and his sisters. He also occasionally got Dexter some Eboris cigars—he never gave them to Dexter directly, though. They would go through Eleanor first. The family would gather around whenever they received anything from Sawyer. It was almost like they were gathering for a distribution of treasure.Tina always received a photo of Sawyer. She kept all of them in a photo album like they were precious treasures. He sent one each month, and she told herself that once she hit a hundred, he would return.Maisie always got candy. There were various kinds, and they were all in beautiful packaging. Each one was sweeter than the last, and a handwritten card would always be in the box. The cards were always written in Eborisian, which she couldn't read.Tessa would receive toys and milk from Sawyer, while Eleanor and Layl

The following day, Dexter and Sawyer left for Eboris. All of the Halls went to see him off at the airport, including Tessa, who was only five months old. The whole family had to be there to bid him goodbye. They gathered at the airport's VIP lounge. Sawyer was reluctant to leave everyone, too. He hugged Layla, Eleanor, Maisie, and Tessa. Tina was the one he was most reluctant to leave—not because he was partial to her, but because she'd also lost both her birth parents, as had he.She was his sister—they were related by blood. He couldn't help being worried about her.Tina was always happy and cheerful, but the sorrow of the imminent parting got to her, too. She held Sawyer for a long time and refused to let go. She kept calling his name.He crouched to hug her. He buried his face against her neck for a long time, and he was choked up when he spoke. "Listen to Dexter and Eleanor. If you miss your mommy at night, you can sleep with Maisie. Be good, okay? I'll be home soon."She loo

Sawyer would leave for Eboris on the 16th of January. Dexter would go there with him and spend a few days there. He would return to Brindley only after Sawyer had settled in.Eleanor and Layla helped Sawyer pack his things. The weather was colder in Eboris, so Layla made sure to prepare plenty of thick clothing, enough to fill two large suitcases. Fortunately, Sawyer and Dexter would be taking a private jet, so they didn't need to worry about there being too much luggage.Sawyer would be staying at an upscale apartment there, and he would have two housekeepers to care for him. He would even have a driver to take him around.Dexter had arranged for all of this. Sawyer wasn't even 18 yet, after all. That had put Eleanor at ease. She'd been worried that Dexter would think Sawyer needed to rough it out and be independent because he was a boy. If that were the case, she would have needed to argue with him.She prepared many books for Sawyer that weren't easy to find in Eboris. It would
