November’s POV

“I’m sorry,” Zeus said as he took me somewhere private after I felt uncomfortable with what he said.

The room Zeus brought me to was small and quiet, tucked away from the rest of the herdhouse. It has a single window overlooking the distant glow of rivers cutting through the dark stone below. The light should have been comforting but it wasn’t.

I stood near the window with my arms wrapped around myself, trying to make sense of what had been said at the table, of what Crux wanted. The words repeated in my head no matter how hard I tried to push them away.

“I’m sorry, November. H-he sees through you,” Zeus said, sadness in his voice.

“He wanted us! Like something valuable and useful. Something to take. We would rather die than him taking us! We only belong to Zeus, he’s our mate. If not him, we rather choose to die and bring the blue fire with us,” Iris said, Selene was nodding along.

“Our mate is Zeus. I will make sure to stay with him no matter what.”
