Bumped into him

the vital monitor was beeping continuously, making an unusually disturbing sound. The lifeless body of the woman laid on the hospital bed was completely unconscious. Her arms and chest were invaded by all kinds of IV needles and electrodes. She was kept on an continuous oxygen support as her SPO2 kept dropping gradually. The group of doctors in white coats, standing beside her bed were making calculative assumptions about her. The expressions on their faces clearly indicating about how hopeless they were about her survival. All this while a teenage girl was standing against the glass wall, looking rather desperate as her eyes were fixed on the poor woman. Her chocolate brown, wavy hair reaching the mid of her back were sprayed loosely on her shoulders. Her sterling gray eyes were brimmed up with salty tears as she looked distressed. Her young face looked rather messy with eye bags and flushed cheeks.

Her attention averted when she saw the doctors coming out of the room. Wiping her tears with the back of her hand, she rubbed them again with her untidy dress in nervousness.

The doctors looked at each other in confusion as it seemed rather difficult for them to break the news to a eighteen year old girl about her dying mother.

"Miss Ruby!" The doctor named Bhumesh Kumar, as mentioned on his badge, stepped forward.

She hated the look they were giving her. Pity in their eyes for her, but why?

"I assume that you're already aware that your mother has Angina pectoris" he emphasized on each word slowly.

She knew it when her mother got that horrible disease. She just hit her teenage when her mother suffered her first heart attack.

Samantha tried her best to hide it from Ruby but failed in end. Ruby got to knew about Samantha's state when she was suffering her second heart attack in the middle of the night. She still got shivers when she remembers those sleepless nights, how much pain Samantha suffered only Ruby knew after her father died.

"Yes I'm aware" she replied painfully.

"After the third heart attack, your mother's heart has been affected to an extent of 90 percent. And we're afraid that her heart has almost failed which leads to an tragic mishap" he tried not to look in the eye when the last words skipped out of his mouth.

But his words already pierced through her ear.

"Can you not do something for my mother? Try to save her, it's all in your hands. Just do what you can" she tried to sound compose and calm as her voice was at the verge of breaking.

"Miss Ruby! You need to understand that your hospital bills are already on pending and your mother's condition is very fragile, a transplant might save her but it costs 1.6 million dollars. And even after that, chances are very few that she will be able to live a normal life" he stated facts cautiously, trying his best not to sound rather rude.

"Thankyou" the only word she uttered, which hardly reached their ears.

"We're really sorry for your loss" he gave her another look of sympathy and walked away, as the others followed him behind.

Her only world was crashing before her eyes nad she couldn't do anything to save it.

Only if her father had not died that day and her mother hadn't took her husband's death so close to heart that her own heart gave up in end and she became a prey of this disease.

No matter how much she resisted for the heartbreaking news not to overcome her but she failed miserably. Her entire being was shook badly. She was falling, in tiny bit of pieces and it was agonizing.

She glanced at her mother again with teary eyes. It was heart wrenching to lose her like this. She couldn't do anything. Wrapping her arms around herself, she comforted herself. She turned around and picking her bag from the chair, she headed out of the hospital to home.

She needed to find a way, she couldn't let her die like this. She was sobbing silently in her own world as she crossed the hospital lobby, stepping towards the exit.

She wasn't looking up, drenched in her own sorrow she didn't realized the person coming her way.

And just like that she bumped into a hard chest, which more felt like a stone wall to her as her head started hurting badly. Reflexively she fell on her back to the floor, hurting her elbow badly. Her fragile skin started bleeding from the cut caused by it.

It was when in anger she looked up to look at her destructor. With a flustered face, she tried to give him the most horrible expression.

But when her eyes searched his face, her instincts screamed that she was at wrong place and everything seemed to blur around her.

His steel like gaze, boring heated holes in her entire being, made her shiver under his gaze. His stubble beard and chiseled rectangular jaw was perfect like a Greek god. Long height and broad shoulders covered her small body in his casting shadow. His opulent suite fit him like a second skin.

But horrendous aura and dreadful expression was dominating on her like no other.

In horror, she tried to stand up. She kept her gaze low not daring to look at him again.

"I'm sorry! It's my fault, I wasn't looking" she apologized meekly and found herself almost running from the spot.

But he couldn't look away from her untill she disappeared behind the glass doors. As if he remembered her face from somewhere.

"Joseph run a check up on her and report me" he ordered plainly to his assistant who stood beside him like another shadow on command.

He wanted to confirm his suspicions, she didn't looked ordinary.

Those sterling gray orbs, heart shaped face, and brown locks, he was sure that he had seen them somewhere before.

"Yes sir" he replied obediently.

Turning around his branded shoes he went inside the office to meet hospital's manager.

Dawson Wayans, a well known reputed name in the city of Manchester. Everyone knew his name like a chant. He was the legal and sole heir of Dawson enterprises. All the inherited business from his father and seven years of blood and sweat enabled him to make his own empire. His only family was his young brother Jason who was studying in Australia.

After analyzing the record of donations until the past year, he ended the meeting.

Walking towards his car, his driver opened the door and he sat in. The driver closed the door of black Mercedes as from the other side, his assistant joined him.

"Sir I've got all the information on her" Joseph motioned the iPad towards him.

She closed the door shut and leaned on it, breathing heavily. She had been running on the footpath after escaping a burglar, who tried to snatch her purse on the bus. Luckily she was saved.

"That was scary" she whispered to herself in between her breaths.Thefts, housebreaking etc were common in that old building and areas surrounding it. But poor people and low budget, they couldn't afford a better apartment than this one.

She looked at her elbow, rolling her sleeve up. The blood already clotted, leaving it dry and scaly. But it was still hurting though.

She went into the washroom and took out the first aid kit from the bathroom cabinet.

Sitting on the edge of bed, she took out alcohol cleaner on the cotton swab. Then she gently pressed it against the wound, cleaning it and hissing in pain throughout.

"It hurts like fracture" complained to the dark room.

After applying the ointment, wrapped the cotton bandage around it. Then she got up and took off her dirty dress above her head.

As her eyes were set on nothing particular, the sight glaring at her back, in the wall mirror in front of her caught her attention.

A slim and skinny body, wearing pink panties and lace bustier top, with a tired face was looking at her.

"I lost so much weight and I didn't realized" she admitted to the empty room.

Her eyes roamed all over her body and then her eyes fixed on something.

Another bruise! Her butt was covered in a red mark.

"Oh I must have got it when I bumped into that weird man!" She remembered.

She grabbed the ointment again from the kit and started rubbing it lightly on it. She always envied those supermodels and actresses which got such a spotless and shining body.

But whatever she was not a supermodel or it's like someone gonna see her covered skinny body, she thought gloomily.

"I've got more serious things to worry about rather than this stupid shit" she told herself in the mirror, staring right into her gray eyes.

She needed to think about something as soon as possible to save her mother.
