Sabrina's POV

My heart feels like it’s being pinched from the inside. I’m jealous. I’m scared. But more than that, I’m hurt.

Because I know love isn’t about who was there first. It’s about who can fill the heart the most. And Hazel is trying to fill a space that has always been for me.

After the game ends, Charlie cheers. “Mama Hazel won!”

Hazel raises her hands in victory, then turns to me. “Do you want to have a rematch?”

I give a faint smile. “Maybe later.”

Charlie then pulls us both. “Let’s play zombie shooting!”

We follow. Even though I’m tired. Even though my mind is filled with fear for tomorrow.

But I walk. Because today belongs to Charlie.

Now we’re in the quiet ball pit, the remnants of laughter from children who just played linger. The colorful lights around it are dimming, some arcade machines have been turned off. The day is beginning to fade, and among the pastel plastic balls, little Charlie is fast asleep.

He’s exhausted. His face is peaceful, his bre

Sabrina's POV Since childhood, life had always forced me to endure—to adapt, to toughen my heart, to keep moving even when my knees trembled. And now, standing before her, with my hand holding tightly onto Charlie’s, walking him out of the maze of her manipulation—she told me I should have given up?I let out a long breath. The night air slipped in from a slightly open window, making the door creak softly. Charlie was already asleep in his room, a rocket-covered blanket pulled over his small frame. Even in sleep, he looked uneasy—his brow slightly furrowed, his lips moving, perhaps calling me in his dreams.“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” I whispered to the air. “Sorry I was too slow.”All this time, I let Hazel dictate my steps. With her sweet smile and words that always sounded reasonable, she trapped me in a loop that slowly strangled my courage. She made me doubt myself, made me believe I wasn’t good enough to be Charlie’s mother. But today, whe

Sabrina's POVI sat by the edge of the bed, brushing back his sweat-dampened hair. Charlie looked at me for a moment, then turned his face toward the window. The sky was darkening, but night hadn’t fully arrived. There was still a faint orange hue lingering, like a small flame reluctant to die out."I'm okay, Mom," he whispered, barely audible.I nodded, even though my heart was screaming. His small hand gripped my index finger tightly, as if it were the only anchor keeping him here. I knew it wasn’t just his body that was tired. His mind, his heart... his soul were weary too. These past few days, he’d grown quieter. No more running in the yard, no more endless questions about the little things with wide, curious eyes. The world inside him seemed to be dimming, and all I could do was watch... unable to turn the lights back on.I pulled the blanket over his small frame and kissed his warm forehead. “Get some rest, okay? Mommy’s right here.

Sabrina's POV “Hazel, you can’t just show up and expect everything to go back to how it was,” I say, trying to keep my tone calm. “Charlie is used to being without you. He needs stability.” She looks down, tears dripping down her cheeks. “I understand, but I want to be part of his life again. I want to fix the mistakes I made.” “What mistakes?” I ask, my voice starting to tremble. “How many mistakes need fixing? You left without a word, and now you’re asking for rights that you can’t just reclaim.” Hazel’s eyes are full of regret, but that’s not enough to erase everything that has happened. I know that Charlie is my priority, and I won’t let anyone, including Hazel, ruin the relationship we’ve built. As she tries to explain, I feel the weight of this decision. Maybe she really wants to change, but can I trust her? And more importantly, is Charlie ready to accept back someone who once left? I wish I could find a middle ground, but at that moment, I know that protecting Charlie

Sabrina's POVThis situation... is truly confusing. I sit across from them, my hands folded in my lap, trying to smile, trying to stay calm. But inside, I'm a mess. A complete mess.Charlie sits between us, enjoying a chocolate ice cream with a cheerful face. Occasionally, he talks to Hazel, his eyes shining with enthusiasm. Charlie’s presence seems like an oasis in this chaos, but within me, the tension continues to rise.Hazel looks relaxed, but I can feel the tension in the air. On one hand, I want to speak up, but on the other, I'm afraid my words will only make things worse.“Charlie, how’s the ice cream?” I ask, trying to divert attention and lighten the mood.“It’s so good, Mom! The chocolate makes me feel like a hero!” he replies cheerfully, wiping the ice cream from his lips.Seeing him smile like that makes my heart a little calmer. However, when I look back at Hazel, I see the crease in her brow and the expression she can’t

Hazel's POVCharlie rested his face on my shoulder, and for a moment, the world felt like it belonged to just the two of us again. No court. No boundaries. No Sabrina.I lifted his chin a little, looking into his round, clear eyes. “You’re feeling better, right?”He nodded. “Yes. My teacher said I can play again, as long as I don’t run.”I smiled and took something out of my small bag. “Then it’s time to celebrate.”From the bag, I pulled out a small blue robot, a smart toy that could talk and dance when clapped. Charlie’s eyes widened in amazement.“This is for me?”I nodded. “A welcoming robot for the little hero who has recovered.”Charlie clapped his hands gently, and the robot’s lights flickered on, its small voice saying, “Welcome back, Commander Charlie!”Charlie’s laughter erupted, clear and full of life. I couldn’t remember the last time I heard him laugh like that. But that happiness laste
