I was about to finish breakfast, because mama didn’t want to let me go if I did not finish my breakfast. 

“Mom, I’m leaving! It’s already 7:30 AM and that’s my first class. Bye-bye,“ I said and kissed her cheek and ran away from the house. After leaving, I immediately rode the jeep and when I saw the entrance gate of our campus I immediately said, “Para po.” Which meant to stop the jeepney. After that, I immediately ran to the school entrance...

A few hours of boring discussion by my teachers passed and now it is recess time, so I am here in the canteen with the twins.

“Hey Kagu, my friend and bro, I have something to say,” Mae said excitedly that caught our attention, “I have a new crush and the first letter of his name was engraved here.” Mae said and showed us a necklace with a heart pendant and an engraved letter M within it. Jezzz! Is this true? It is possible that the M in her pendant means Manuel? Jeeezzz you gave me hope Babe Mae.

“What the heck sis? You really spend a lot of money for that trash?” Zhey said, sounded so annoyed. Zhey is a bit stingy, so every time his sister spends a lot, he gets angry. “The hell I care,” Mae answered annoyingly too.

“Mae, why you give us some clues about that man that you like? Just like, is he tall? Is he fit or is he handsome?“ I curiously asked, because I may sound assuming and dreaming, but maybe I’m the one he likes…

“Uhmm, he’s a bit small,” Mae said while smiling at me. One point! I’m a little smaller, so one point for me.

“He’s chubby,” Mae said. Another one pointed out I’m chubby.

“He’s not that ugly, but for me he’s handsome,” Mae said, which made me smile even more. Three points for me! Because I’m not too ugly, shit! So am I really the one that Mae likes?

“Why Kagu?” Mae asked, “Ah, nothing. By the way, I’m leaving. Bye-bye!“ I answered then immediately left. Oh my almighty God, how can I confess to her? I’m sure I’m the M in her pendant. From what she said, I’m sure I am the one that she refers to.

So throughout the afternoon class, I was thinking about how I would confess and how Mae would fall in love with me. It’s a bit embarrassing if she’s the one to approach me and confess to me, isn’t it? I am the man. I must be the first to approach and confess to her. So when the class was over, I texted Mae. I told her to meet me on 7/11 and not to include Zhey, because I had something important to say to her and only the two of us should know. Hay Mae, my love, at the end of the day, you will be mine…

I’m here now on 7/11 and I’m waiting for Mae. A few moments later, I saw the woman I love. She approached me, so I smiled and approached her too.

“Oh Kagu, what are you going to say?” Mae asked me , so I smiled, ”Ah Mae, I have something to tell you… uhm…” I said while my tongue seemed to be twisted, as no words came out of my mouth?

“What is it Kagu? Hurry up! Look, the rain is about to fall,” Mae said while laughing. I looked up and there I saw that the sky was very dark and the rain was about to fall. “I have loved Mae for a long time. Am I the M on your pendant? I approached and confessed now, because maybe you’re just too shy to do that, so I did it for you,“ I shouted at her. I was so excited that I shouted unintentionally my confession towards Mae and the people walking by were all stopped and stared at me and Mae. I saw the shocked face of Mae and she looked like she couldn’t believe what I said. Maybe my confession was processing her brain and thinking that the man she likes also has feelings for her.

“U-Uhm how can I say this? Kagu, I just saw you as my best friend and brother. Also, the M initial in my pendant was Miguel Noah of BS Engineering. I-I’m so sorry,“ she said and those words shocked me. The rain and thunder followed at the same time. Suddenly, the surroundings were filled with laughter and whispers of people around us that made me feel embarrassed.

“Ahhh is that s-so? O-Ok I’m leaving. I still have a place to go. Haha bye,“ I said while holding back tears. I turned around and started to run away.

“Kagu-“ Mae said before I got far from where we were standing a while ago, but I just accelerated my pace as I felt so embarrassed. They laughed so hard to my pains. I HATE THIS WORLD! This world is so unfair! Fuck! I want to die. It was so embarrassing! “You’re so stupid Manuel Kagura Anastacio, you’re so assuming. Why did you dream of a person that you couldn’t reach?! Curse this life of mine!” I shouted while crossing the pedestrian lane. But I stopped for a bit as I heard my phone ringing in my pocket, so I grabbed it. When I looked at my cell phone, it was mama who was calling, so I answered immediately. “H-Hello ma, why?” I said while stuttering, as I was holding back the tears that were now forming in my eyes. “Hello, you left your umbrella. You might be soaked in the rain. Wait. Are you about to cry? Ah? What happened?,'' Mama asked, so I couldn’t hold back my tears and dropped off.

“N-No Ma I just-AHHH!...”

I cut off what am I going to say, when I hit and dragged by a truck– but why is that my body feels numb and I don’t feel any pain anymore?

“Hello son, what’s that, son?” I heard mama’s panicked question to me. This is probably my end, so I must say that I love her even for the last time, “M-Ma, I-I love you.” I said weakly, and after I said that, my vision suddenly faded. “What happened to your son?” Mama asked and that was the last word that I heard from mama before I lost consciousness. …

THIRD PERSON P.O.V

(At Anastacio’s residence…l

“Hello son!” Kagu’s mom said nervously.

 “Oh my God! Someone was hit by a truck! Call 911 immediately! '' shouted by someone on Kagu’s phone, so Kagu’s mother heard that and became paranoid. Then Suddenly, the tragedy he suffered on the day of his wedding to his fiancé came to his mind. So Yolanda – Kagu’s mother, hurried to get dressed. She rushed out into the very heavy rain without even an umbrella. She hurried to the taxi stand, luckily there was a taxi that stopped in front of her, then hopped in immediately.

“Do you know where the accident happened?” Yolanda asked the driver anxiously, “Yes ma’am, why?” The taxi driver answered, “Please take me there, please hurry, I will double the payment.” Yolanda said while asking the driver, so the driver immediately sped up the taxi..

 When they arrived at the scene of the accident, Yolanda immediately paid for the taxi, and did not take the change. She ran to the scene of the accident and tried hard to squeezed herself to get closer to the scene of the accident. She managed to get closer and saw the scene closely. She went into the barricade of the police to see the appearance of person who involved in accident better.

“Ma’am, you’re not allowed here.” The police stopped her – but when she saw the watch of the person who was hit by the truck, she realized that it was her son, no doubt, because she gave that watch to her son on her son’s eighteenth birthday, the tears suddenly fell.

 “Son!” Yolanda shouted and pushed the policeman with too much force to get through. When she got close, she immediately laid her son in her arms, “My almighty God, will you take my son away from me too?” The woman asked while crying and looking at her pitiful child.

When the ambulance arrived, Kagu’s body was immediately placed in it…Arriving at the hospital, Kagu was declared dead on arrival, so it seems that heaven and earth fell on the pitiful mother who lost her child.

Yolanda was already thinking and asking about why God hadn’t taken her yet, after God took the two people she loved….

Few hours pass…

The body of Kagu is now buried in the house of the Anastacios. Everyone is mourning. Everyone remembers the happy and sad things they did with Kagu. Mae tries to blame herself and says, “If I had given Kagu a chance, he wouldn’t involves in that accident!” Mae said repeatedly in front of Kagu’s coffin.

While Kagu’s mother, Yolanda, was just stunned, it seemed like she was thinking so deeply and couldn’t say a word. If Yolanda was given food, she would just throw it away and suddenly cry out loud, because she was remembering the happy days she had with her son, such as how they would tease each other, how they comfort each other, and how her son would sing for her. That wouldn’t happen again, because his only and most beloved son, Manuel Kagura Anastaciao, is dead…

The twins felt the same way. Even if it hurts, Zhey needs to be strong so that someone can comfort his sister and the mother of his friend Kagu. The Family Wong – the twins’ family -- are the ones who take care of Kagu’s burial, because the mother of Kagu has no other relatives.

Suddenly, Yolanda started to cry and scream. She kept saying the name “Manuel,” so the twins went to her and embraced her, but she continued to cry. Everyone felt the pain and grief of a mother who has lost her child with every scream accompanied by tears that Yolanda released…

But…While the family and friends of Kagu are all in pain and grief, Little did they know, Kagu was in deepest sleep in one peaceful place…
