Even after being married for three years, my husband treats me like a stranger. When I throw up blood from pregnancy complications, he's in the prayer room chanting for his foster sister, Yvie Springton. He accuses me of being dramatic. If Yvie so much as gets a headache, he drops everything and flies overseas to be by her side. When his parents are in critical condition after a car crash, I beg him to go see them one last time. But what does he do? He claims I'm cursing Yvie. When I go into early labor and cling to life after giving birth to our son, he posts a photo of his international boarding pass on social media. At his parents' funeral, he returns to the country with Yvie and demands I leave the marriage with nothing. The day our divorce finalizes, he holds a wedding ceremony with her. I bury his parents alone. Then, at an exclusive auction, dead set on winning the famous painting for Yvie, he offered a staggering price. Even his accounts are frozen. That's when he finally realizes he's been disowned by the Springton family. His eyes are bloodshot, and he's furious as he demands answers. I simply gesture for my lawyer to step forward. He says, "Mr. Springton, take a look at this will."

Chapter 1

After receiving the news that my parents-in-law were in a car accident, I rushed straight to the Church of Light with my bodyguards.

Elson Springton had been there every day lately, praying for his adopted sister, Yvie Springton, who was undergoing medical treatment abroad.

Amid the swirling smoke of candles in the prayer hall, Elson knelt on a cushion, the flames flickering before him.

I held onto the wall, barely managing to stay upright.

"Elson, your parents were in a car crash. The hospital says they are in critical condition."

He didn't even turn his head as he continued reciting prayers and uttering coldly, "You couldn't even come up the mountain yourself. That's a grave disrespect to the heavens."

I had been carried up the mountain by bodyguards. At eight months pregnant, I simply couldn't climb it myself.

"Elson, I'm begging you. Your parents are barely holding on!"

"Ridiculous. They're having you come up with lies again just so they can get me to go back." Only then did Elson turn around, his eyes full of contempt. "This trick again. You claimed you vomited blood from severe morning sickness last time. It was Dad's critical illness the time before that. What next? Are you going to say they've died next time?"

Ever since Elson started living at the Church of Light, his parents had tried everything to get him to come home.

However, they had never lied.

When Dawson Springton had fallen seriously ill, it turned out to be cancer. Fortunately, it was benign, and the surgery was a success. But Elson only visited once before Dawson was discharged.

I didn't vomit blood every time from morning sickness. However, it was hardly surprising that Elson stopped believing us; after all, there was that previous cancer scare, and he hadn't witnessed it himself.

I staggered forward, with tears blurring my vision. "I'm not lying. Something really happened to them!"

His eyes took on an even harder glint. "Do you hate Yvie that much?"

I looked at him, confused. "What?"

"Did you come up with this lie just to stop me from going abroad to visit her tomorrow?"

Hearing that, I dropped to my knees and grabbed his pant leg. "I'm begging you, even if you don't believe me, can't you at least call home to check?" I clutched his sleeve. "Please come to the hospital with me. Just one glance at Dawson and Felicia is all I ask—"

"Yvie is receiving treatment abroad. I have to pray for her every day. I can't stop." He didn't even look back as he continued to recite prayers.

"Your parents are on the brink of death, but you're still thinking about your adopted sister!"

"Are you cursing my sister?" He suddenly turned around and glared at me viciously.

I screamed and sobbed in agony. "I'm not cursing anyone! You—"

"Enough!" Elson violently shook me off, his eyes full of disgust. "Are you hoping something happens to Yvie? You are vile."

As I took a step back, the bodyguard caught me. I couldn't believe Elson would think that of me.

"I'm just telling you the truth," I explained. "Your parents really—"

"Shut up!" Elson suddenly stood and pushed me hard. "Ever since I married you, Yvie's illness has worsened every day. Did you do something behind our backs?"

Off balance, I stumbled backward. My foot slipped, and I tumbled down the stone steps in the prayer hall.

Pain engulfed me instantly as sharp agony tore through my abdomen.

Even the bodyguard protecting me didn't expect Elson to do that—he could only manage to shield me as we both fell down the steps.

Through blurry eyes, I saw Elson standing at the top, making no move to help me.

"Are you done acting? You pull this trick every time to get sympathy. How disgusting." He turned and walked away.

When I felt warm fluid flow between my legs, I looked down in horror at the bright red blood.

"The baby…" My voice weakened.

The two bodyguards panicked and rushed me to the hospital.

Under the blinding hospital lights, I vaguely heard the doctor's urgent voice saying, "Trauma has caused signs of premature labor. The fetal heartbeat is unstable. Prepare for emergency surgery!"

I dreamed again of the past. I fell in love with Elson at first sight and pursued him for five years before finally getting the man I wished for.

When I first got pregnant, he joyfully and eagerly anticipated the child's arrival.

But after he received news that his adopted sister had attempted suicide and was saved, he became depressed and withdrawn. He started to spend his days praying in church for Yvie overseas, ignoring everything at home.

Only then did I realize that his heart belonged solely to his adopted sister.

Yvie suffered from a rare autoimmune disease and was unable to conceive. When my in-laws realized Elson's feelings for her, they sent her abroad for treatment.

Elson married me five years later.

His parents thought he had moved on from Yvie. But now, he had abandoned his parents, me, and our child for the sake of his adopted sister.
