Chapter 15

She once again sneaked a peek at Grace.

‘This girl’s temperament is very different from her exterior.

‘She’s dressed in a very ladylike fashion, and yet she knows Kungfu.

‘Her name sounds so cutesy but she has a big appetite and prefers meat.’

The more Cecelia looked at Grace, the more of a fan she became of her. “Pretty sister, thank you so much for today. If not for you, around this time next year, I would be offered joss papers. But it isn’t like I have anyone who would visit my grave.”

Grace did not know how to reply to Cecelia’s statement.

Cecelia might have said it while smiling, but her statement was filled with negativity. Grace gulped a mouthful of milk tea before saying, “Men are just like that. If the old one does not leave, a new one will not come. A jerk has left, but who knows if the next one will be the sweetest man on earth. Look at the silver lining in between the clouds.”

‘Sweetest man on earth?’

Somehow, the first person that appeared in Cecelia’s mind was William who had washed her feet and cooked breakfast for her.

Other than being penniless, he was quite a sweet guy.

The thought of William reminded her it was getting quite late already.

When she left the house that day, she said that she would be back by six. However, the current time was almost eight. ‘Would he be worried about me?

‘Oh Cecelia, what are you thinking?

‘We’re just strangers. Even if he did show a few sweet gestures, can you guarantee that he isn’t like Hawick, putting up a show?

‘Cecelia, don’t be silly and gullible!

‘Men are all untrustworthy!’

Cecelia might have advised herself in such a manner, but she still said to Grace, “Pretty sister, I need to head home. Once again, I’m truly thankful to you for saving me today. This meal today shouldn’t be considered as repayment. Next time, let me buy you a better meal.”

“It’s alright. I already told you, I helped you because I found you rather pretty. If you were an ugly girl, I would not have been a busybody either.”

Grace disagreed that Cecelia should pay her back. Instead, she took out her phone from her pocket. “Should I scan your QR code, or shall I do it?”

Cecelia and Grace exchanged WeChat contacts and just as Cecelia reached home, her phone rang.

It was a voice message from Grace.

“I’m home. How about you?”

Cecelia replied, “Me too.”

Grace replied, “Good. That’s it for now.”

Two simple sentences were enough to warm Cecelia’s heart by a lot.

‘Is this what people mean by friends at first sight who wished they had met earlier?’

Cecelia quietly set a nickname for Grace...

She then looked at it and smiled like a fool. At the same time, William opened the door and witnessed the scene.

“What are you doing standing outside?”

Cecelia blinked and said, “Nothing! What about you? Why did you come out?”

William waved the garbage bag that was in his hand.

He was dressed in newly bought house attire and was as handsome as when he was wearing a suit the day before. Nevertheless, he gave Cecelia a different feeling when she saw him in casual clothes; he looked more approachable for some reason.

It has to be said that William looked so talented and handsome that the bag of garbage did no damage to his image.

Cecelia thought about the 500 bucks this morning and smiled. “Hehe, it was money well spent.”

“... don’t worry, I won’t let your money go to waste!”

‘... he understands? But why don’t I understand anything whenever he speaks?’

William went to throw the garbage and when he came back, he saw Cecelia still standing by the door.

His gaze lit up a little when he saw the lady by the door. “Why aren’t you coming in?”

Cecelia’s reply nearly caused William to experience hematemesis…
