The front door opened with a soft creak.

Maya stood in the hallway, her heart racing. She had waited for this moment—waited for Daniel to come home so she could finally talk to him, clear the air, and try to salvage what was left of their marriage.

But the moment she saw him walk in, her heart dropped.

He wasn’t alone.

Daniel had one arm around Jamie and the other holding a bag of groceries. Lena followed behind them, laughing softly at something Jamie had said. The three of them looked like they belonged together—smiling, relaxed, like a happy family returning from a day out.

Maya’s world felt like it stopped.

Jamie was glued to Lena’s side, his tiny fingers wrapped tightly around her hand. He didn’t even glance in Maya’s direction. It was as if she didn’t exist.

Something inside Maya broke.

She stepped forward, her voice tight. “Daniel, we need to talk. Now.”

Daniel looked surprised. “Maya—Jamie’s tired. Can’t it wait?”

She shook her head. “No. It can’t.”

Seeing the serious look on her face, Daniel handed Jamie over to Lena and followed Maya into the study. He closed the door behind them, and the air suddenly felt heavy.

“What is it?” he asked gently.

Maya didn’t answer immediately. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the old photo she had found. She held it up between them, her eyes sharp with pain.

“Do you recognize this?”

Daniel stared at it. The color drained from his face.

“I found it inside an old photo album,” Maya said. Her voice trembled with a mix of anger and sadness. “It’s you and Lena… and on the back, you wrote My Love. Care to explain?”

Daniel sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Maya, that photo is old. It’s from before we got married.”

“But why do you still have it?” Maya asked, her voice rising. “Why did you keep it hidden? Why is she still here in our lives like she belongs?”

“She doesn’t belong here,” Daniel said quickly. “She’s just helping. Jamie likes her—”

“That’s the problem!” Maya snapped. “He likes her more than me! And you just let it happen. You’ve been letting her step into my place little by little, and now… now she’s his favorite person in the world!”

Daniel stayed silent.

“And today,” Maya continued, her voice cracking, “do you even remember what day it is?”

Daniel blinked. “Of course. It’s our anniversary.”

Maya stared at him. “Then why did you ask her to pick up Jamie from school instead of me?”

Daniel hesitated. “I was stuck at work. I didn’t mean anything by it. Lena offered, and I thought—”

“You thought wrong!” Maya said. “You never even told me! You just let her go and get our son like she was his mother!”

“I’m sorry,” he said softly. “I didn’t want to upset you.”

He pulled out a small jewelry box and opened it. Inside was a delicate silver ring with a sapphire in the center.

“I bought this for you,” he said. “I was going to give it to you tonight. It’s not something Lena picked. It’s from me—to you.”

Maya stared at it. Her heart wanted to feel touched, but the pain was still too fresh.

She took a deep breath. “She has to go.”

Daniel looked surprised. “What?”

“I want her to leave this house,” Maya said. “I want her out of our lives.”

Daniel paused for a long time, then finally nodded. “Alright. I’ll ask her to leave.”

Maya let out a shaky breath. For the first time in weeks, she felt like maybe she had a little control back. Maybe this home could feel like hers again.

But what they didn’t know was that a pair of small eyes had been watching them from the hallway.

Jamie had heard everything.

That evening, Maya tried to make things feel normal again. She set the dinner table, dressed in a clean outfit, and lit a small candle for their anniversary dinner. She even brought out the cake she had ordered specially for tonight.

She smiled to herself, hopeful that things might finally start to heal.

Jamie sat at the table, arms crossed, face blank.

Maya served his food and gently asked, “Jamie, how was school today?”

He didn’t answer.

After a while, he looked around. “Where’s Auntie Lena?”

Maya smiled softly. “She went back to her house, sweetheart. She has work to do.”

“No, she didn’t,” Jamie said coldly. “You kicked her out.”

Maya’s smile faded. “Jamie, it’s not like that. She—”

“I heard you!” Jamie shouted, jumping from his chair. “You yelled at Daddy! You made her leave! I hate you!”

Maya’s heart dropped.

“Jamie—please, calm down.”

“No!” he screamed. “You’re not my mommy! I want Auntie Lena to be my mom!”

Maya reached out to him, tears filling her eyes. “Baby, please, don’t say that—”

“Don’t touch me!” he screamed, smacking her hand away.

In his fury, he reached for the cake and shoved it off the table.

The plate shattered, frosting and crumbs flying everywhere. The cake landed right on Maya’s lap, smearing her beautiful anniversary dress.

The same dress Daniel had complimented on their honeymoon. The one Maya had worn tonight to try and feel beautiful again. To try and feel like a wife, like a mother, like someone who mattered.

Now it was ruined. Just like everything else.

Jamie stormed away from the table, his cries echoing through the hall.

Maya sat still, staring at the mess in her lap. Her hands trembled. Her throat tightened, and for a long moment, she couldn’t breathe.

Daniel came rushing in, eyes wide. “What happened?!”

Maya looked up at him, her face pale and wet with tears. “He hates me, Daniel. My own son hates me.”

“No, he doesn’t—he’s just upset—”

“No,” she whispered. “You let this happen. You let her take my place. Both of you.”

Daniel reached out, but Maya took a step back. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

She didn’t cry loudly. She didn’t scream.

She just sat there, broken, crushed by everything she had tried so hard to protect.

For the sake of an outsider…

She had lost her husband.

She had lost her son.

And now, she had lost herself.

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   The night

Maya stood in front of the full-length mirror, smoothing the soft folds of her dress one last time. The stylist had done her hair in loose, elegant waves that framed her face, and the subtle makeup brought out the warm tones of her eyes. She hardly recognized herself—not because she looked like someone else, but because she looked like the version of herself she had never allowed the world to see. Tonight, she wasn’t just Maya the fashion designer; she was Elias Carter’s girlfriend, walking into the heart of his family’s world. She had barely finished fastening her bracelet when her phone began to buzz on the dresser. She picked it up and saw his name flash across the screen.“Hello?” she said softly, her voice catching slightly.“I’m here,” Elias’s deep voice came through, smooth but warm. “At the estate gate.”For a moment, her stomach flipped. It wasn’t nerves from seeing him—it was the thought of what came next. Taking a slow breath, she crossed to the window and glanced out at t

The morning sunlight slipped gently through the curtains of Maya’s room, painting golden stripes across the soft cream walls. She opened her eyes slowly, still feeling the weight of sleep on her lashes. For a moment, she lay there, listening to the faint sounds of the estate waking up — the soft hum of a vacuum somewhere down the hall, the muffled voices of maids talking in the distance, and the faint clinking of dishes coming from the kitchen.Today was the day of Elias’s family dinner night. She wasn’t going yet — that would come later — but her mother had made it very clear the night before: Maya would be getting styled properly for the occasion. Whether she liked it or not.Maya sighed and rolled onto her back. She had tried to insist on going simple, maybe just doing her own hair and makeup. But her mother had looked at her as though she had just suggested wearing pajamas to a royal wedding. “Absolutely not,” Mrs. Denovan had said, her tone leaving no room for argument. “It’s y

The morning sun was bright as Maya stepped out of the Denovan estate, dressed smartly in a navy-blue dress and beige heels. A pair of maids had already helped load her handbag and lunch into the car.Her new car.A black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon waited in the driveway, polished to perfection. It still felt surreal, even though she’d driven it twice already. The seats were smooth, the engine powerful, and everything about it screamed wealth and class.Maya took a deep breath before getting in. She adjusted the mirror, started the car, and pulled out of the estate gates with quiet confidence. She was going back to work—back to her old life—but everything was different now.As she neared her office building, her heart started to race. She parked the G-Wagon carefully in the company parking lot and noticed immediately how heads turned.A few of her co-workers walking past paused mid-step. Others peeked from windows upstairs.Maya got out of the car with a polite nod and a small smile, preten

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   Day of Quiet Moments

Maya woke up to the soft sound of birds singing just outside her window. The curtains were already pulled back slightly, letting in the warm morning sunlight. She sat up slowly in bed, feeling the gentle breeze from the open window brush against her skin. For a moment, she didn’t move. She just sat there, taking it all in.She slid out of bed and walked across the room barefoot. The marble floor was cold but smooth beneath her feet. Everything in her room still looked so new and beautiful—elegant furniture, soft curtains, fresh flowers in a vase. It felt like a dream, but one she was slowly getting used to.After washing up and changing into a soft cream dress, Maya stepped outside her room. The hallway was quiet, and the air smelled faintly of coffee and flowers. She followed the scent down the stairs and into the kitchen, where she found the chef and two maids already working.“Good morning, Miss Maya,” one of them greeted politely.“Good morning,” Maya replied with a small smile. “

  • Longing For My Ex-Wife   Shopping Day

The car pulled to a smooth stop in front of a tall, elegant building with a golden sign that read “Maison Élise”. It was one of the most famous designer boutiques in the city, known for dressing celebrities, socialites, and powerful families. The windows were decorated with shimmering gowns, shoes on glass shelves, and sparkling accessories.Maya looked out the window in awe. “Mom… this place looks expensive.”Mrs. Denovan gave her a gentle smile. “Only the best for my daughter.”Anika sat beside them, swinging her legs excitedly. “Can I try something too?”“Of course,” her grandmother said, reaching over to fix Anika’s collar. “Let’s spoil all of us today.”The driver opened the door, and the three of them stepped out. As soon as they entered the boutique, a wave of quiet attention rolled through the store. The attendants, all dressed in neat black uniforms, quickly stood in a line on both sides of the main hallway, bowing slightly as Mrs. Denovan entered.Maya blinked, surprised. • Longing For My Ex-Wife   Morning at the Estate

Warm sunlight streamed through the soft cream curtains as Maya slowly opened her eyes. It took her a moment to remember where she was. This wasn’t her apartment—it was her new room at the Denovan estate. The room was beautiful. Soft pastel colors filled the space—light lavender curtains, cream-colored bedding, and pale rose wallpaper with a floral pattern. A large window overlooked the garden, and on the other side of the room stood a neat desk with some of her own design tools already placed on top.As she sat up, she heard quiet footsteps around the room. Two maids were already moving about. One was gently dusting the furniture while the other was preparing her bath in the connected bathroom.Maya blinked in surprise. “Oh… good morning,” she said, still a little sleepy. The maids bowed slightly and smiled politely. She stretched and looked around. Everything was perfect—but it still felt strange to be waited on like this. Back at her apartment, she always did things on her own. She
