Emelia opened her eyes, and the white roses beautifully spread around the water fountain caught her attention, she smiled unknowingly.
White roses were her favorites. She turns around and every eye is on her, from the back of her head, she can feel the piercing gaze of everyone.
She tried moving her legs and with no effort, it reacted, “no pain…” She thought. This was not the scene she had been expecting to see.
The last of her memory was her dying a painful death and here she is with everyone staring at her like she is some expensive artifact laid out for display.
She raised her pale fingers with nails painted blushed pink to her face, her tears felt too real for all this to be some dream, Emelia held the the hem of her dress pinching herself so hard, that she folded her lips not daring to let the screams bottled up within. Only then did she realize she had been reborn.
The venue did not only look familiar but it was the day she wished to overturn the outcome more than anything in her previous life. She booted up her lips not daring to let go of the screams of fright and joy buried within.
“Will you marry me?” the voice she threaded the most asked and there she noticed the man on one knee an open ring box in hand. The diamond ring shined so brightly, almost blinding her sight.
The ring was nothing big but certainly was rare. Alexandrites, a ring that can change colors, emerald by day, ruby by night, perfect for the top clans.
How would any woman not want such a ring? 3 years ago she had taken it with a smile thinking she had got the best but here she was, a broken heart, murdered, neglected, and tossed to the side as garbage became her outcome.
3 years his love for her was as rare as the gem indeed it had been rare with a hint of death attached to it. Emelia knew just how she had answered 3 years ago,
“yes' ' was the answer and certainly what everyone was looking forward to hearing. Staring at the man before her, Emelia sneered in her heart, he was smiling at her but she knew his heart was with another.
“Emi '' Mark called out to her reaching for her hands but Emilia stepped away from him, she was done. She was more determined to break off this relationship than her virginity, which she had been very eager to give in to him. A perfect trophy wife she had been.
“I am barren” she blurted out to the hearing of everyone. At this point what did matter was the way out and damn the consequences.
“What are you saying? Stop it right now '' Mark demanded but Emilia was far gone to turn back.
“I am barren,” she says again as if trying to convince herself. The silent hall erupted with questions and suddenly became too noisy for her comfort.
“What did you say?'' Luna Camfrey asked, but Emilia stood quiet and unresponsive, her eyes to the ground she dared not utter another word. “She is a lying mother,” Mark interrupted hurriedly. “Is she pregnant then?” his angry mother asked back.
“No,” Mark replied reluctantly. “Exactly”
“but mother” Mark intervenes. “Not another word. We can't have a barren woman as Luna” Luna Camfrey roared angrily. He was not only the next alpha after her husband but her favorite among her two sons. She least expected such from him. Everyone was too stunned to say a word.
“There is no such thing as a barren luna” Luna Camfrey announced. Emilia stood her heart pounding in joy. “But this alliance can't be broken,” she added, crushing Emilia's dance of joy.
“This children..'' Alpha Camfrey who has been silent all along groaned angrily. “To my office” he ordered. He was standing and walking out of the great hall. Away from the eyes of the pack and his parents, Mark pulls Emilia to the wall slamming her back so hard to the wall she could swear she heard a little crack. Not bothered by her painful look, Mark held up her neck, painfully strangling her.
“What in the devil's name do you think you're doing?” he demanded but Emelia was too choked up to reply. Her bright red face was now portraying colors of white and black.
“Damn it '' Mark cursed, letting her fall to her feet. Emelia coughed a few times inhaling as much air to her deprived lungs. “Reject me. Reject me that's all I want” she replies barely catching her breath.
“You must be dreaming '' Mark laughed arrogantly.
“Get your act together, you must be sick in the head to think I will do such. You better stop this childish play of yours and let's resume the ceremony. Don't you dare make a fool out of me Emelia, you've been warned” Mark did not hesitate to leave her on the floor.
“I won't lose to him” she heard him murmur to himself, his back disappearing behind the huge pillars of the hallway.
“Two words and you've shown me who you are, I will be damned if I don't break this shit of an engagement with you Mark Comfrey'' Emelia stood to her feet dusting off her dress. She was more determined to break her engagement than anything else.
Walking towards the alpha's office, happy memories of her holding hands, laughing and smiling at her devil of a fiance. He had been there for her when she lost her parents in a car crash, he was the one to hold her and comfort her every other night.
But at this junction, it did not matter, he was the devil she had to run away from. with every step came courage and determination.
“Even if it rains cats and dogs today, I still will not accept this union” With that said, Emelia turned the hard door knob.
Clair hasn't felt this good all her life. She was sailing well in her business, and now her mother had invited her home, and she was more than happy to go. It’s been a few months, and so much has changed about her. She lived in the Woods mansion, but not as a mistress or concubine to the Alpha, rather as part-owner.She was scheming and used her ways to get what she wanted. If she learned anything from Emilia in the past, it would be not to let your enemies know your next move. She walked out of her room dressed in beige pants and a purple top, her car keys jingling from her side. Mrs. Carrier Woods watched from the dining room as a proud smile spread across her lips.At first, Clair felt like a thorn in her flesh, but now she saw her with great regard. Not only did she rise from nothing, but she had made a name for herself and was no longer desperate for the attention of men. Clair looked over to the dining room and smiled.“Good morning, Aunt.” Mrs. Carrier Woods smiled back. “Good
The death of a dearest friend left Mrs. Anderson unable to eat or drink anything. Her mind kept wandering back to her last words.“Tell them you will regret it if you keep it for long,” she had warned, and now she was dead. Mrs. Anderson sat on the balcony of her room, her mind uneasy. How was she to bring it up?It's been years, and now she would rather bury it, but deep down she knew she couldn't bring herself to do that. She still craved it; she had been the one who made the decision, but no day passed without her wanting the touch of it, the sound, the sight of it.How was she to bring it up now that everyone was long gone? Guilt was fast eating her from within, and there was no one she could confide in. Rema walked into the room to find Mrs. Anderson so consumed by her thoughts. She placed the freshly ordered flowers on the table before walking over to her.“The roses are here,” she announced. Mrs. Anderson jolted a little but smiled and turned towards Rema. She saw the white ros
Emilia had stayed up all night with the others, but no one could bring themselves to deliver the news of Lina’s passing to the Cains. Mrs. Cain had called a few more times, and finally, Fredrick took the call.“Hello, Fred... did you see her? Was she found?” She asked impatiently, but Fredrick sighed.“I’m sorry, she was gone before he found her.” His words hung in the air, and soon he heard the phone beep from the other end. The call had been cut off, and he just stood there staring at everyone.“Mark is a beast,” Fabulous broke the silence. Everyone agreed.Fredrick turned to leave, but the steps of Sally caught his attention as she rushed in, handing them the morning article.“He killed his mother,” she announced like it was some jovial news. Fredrick halted while Emilia quickly grabbed hold of the papers.“What do you mean by ‘he killed his mother’?” Emilia asked, reading through the article. Every word and picture on it sent shocks through her legs. She staggered a little backwar
It poured heavily all through the night, but despite the cold, Mrs. Camfrey couldn't sleep. She kept going out to check on her children. Mark had returned much later in the night, but there was no sign of Lina. The longer she stayed outside, the more frightened Mrs. Camfrey felt. She couldn't help but think the worst. The night was painful, and it did not settle matters within her when the house phone rang, only for her to answer and hear Mrs. Cain.“Lina... Lina,” she called desperately into the phone. Mrs. Camfrey stood frozen for a second before recovering herself. “She isn't home. I don't know where else to look for her,” she half-cried. She could hear the big sigh of Mrs. Cain and whoever she was with.“Lina is not fine. Something has happened to her,” Mrs. Cain said, and Mrs. Camfrey couldn't deny it. She, too, was her mother, and she could feel a shift within her. The phone died, and both parties turned to their phones, making even more calls. Not knowing who else to call, Mrs.
Lina was too caught up in their conversation to notice they had taken the wrong turn. The car sped away into an isolated path, and only then was she conscious of their location.“Mark…” she called out, suspecting nothing as she looked out the window, trying to make out where they were.“I think you took the wrong turn,” she added, her head out the window, the wind blowing in her face. Mark sneered, taking another turn.“No, we are on the right path,” he assured her calmly, but something within Lina shifted. A sudden feeling took hold of her, and all she wanted was to get out of the car. She could feel her hair stand on end despite the wind pushing it in another direction. Her body was covered in goosebumps, and a sudden cold engulfed her.“Stop the car,” she ordered, but the wind washed away her words as Mark did not stop but increased the speed. Lina was now scared—an impending danger lay ahead, and she did not want it. Her mind went wild, and the thought of the gun being in the poss
Emilia woke up feeling tired. She couldn't place the feeling, but her mind wasn't in order. She felt tired without doing anything, but she blamed it on recent activities. She had been so busy, barely stopping to have little snacks and beverages. She stood up and walked to the balcony. The day was as bright as she hoped for her day. She quickly rushed into the bathroom and was soon out. She hurried and walked out of her room, taking her work items with her. With Fredrick gone for a little affair, she did not bother to have breakfast. As she rushed down the stairs, Sally was waiting at the bottom with a flask of homemade food.“Please eat; Fredrick will have my head if he gets to know you've been missing breakfast.” Emilia smiled, taking the little flask.Kelvin had a few errands to run, so Fabulous did the driving. As they took off for the office, Fabulous couldn't help but ask,“Will he accept them if they come for him?”Emilia raised her head from the file she was going through. Her
