Chapter 1: Betrayed

Adeline POV

I rush into my house that sits in the woods due to the storm outside. I went into the city to do some shopping for myself since my birthday is coming up in a few weeks. Once I was inside I realized that my husband wasn't home. My husband, Ezra Blackwood, and I have been married for 2 years. He is the Alpha of our pack, Blackwood Bay.

Our marriage was arranged by our fathers, Alpha Desmond Blackwood and Beta Franklin Simmons. We are not fated mates and that fact did not matter to our fathers but it mattered to us. I only agreed to the marriage because I love my father dearly and I didn't want to disobey him. Ezra only agreed because his father threatened to pass him over for Alpha and give it to his younger brother Salem if he didn't.

I began to put away the items I bought which were a black strapless dress that hugged my body in all the right places, red Louboutin heels, a ruby necklace with matching earrings and a diamond clutch. Since I am Luna there will be a masquerade ball held in my honor. My mask that will be covered in diamonds and rubies is currently being custom made. I will be 25 this year and I couldn't be more excited.

" I can't wait either! We are going to be sexy as hell!" Said my snarky wolf, Sage. She is a beautiful wolf that has Honey brown fur that matches my hair. Her eyes are a beautiful light green just like mine.

" It's not like we will be getting laid." I said as I rolled my eyes.

Sage didn't respond but I knew she didn't hate the idea that me and Ezra only ever had sex the one time when he marked me. We both wanted to have our first time with our fated mate. I got my wolf at 16 like the everyone else but I never found my fated mate.

Ezra found his. Her name was Nia, she was a tall beautiful woman with a slim build, midnight black hair and baby blue eyes. Nia also had beautiful smooth dark skin and she was an omega. Which made Ezra's father furious. Hence as to why he was forced into this marriage with me.

Ezra rejected her and Alpha Desmond banished her from the pack. He has hated me for it ever since. He has never harmed me but when he speaks to me there is hate laced in his words and I can feel it through my mark. So not finding him at home wasn't an uncommon occurrence. We slept in separate rooms so I knew that I probably wouldn't see him tonight.

I was about to head to the kitchen when I feel a sharp pain in my chest that brung me to my knees. All I could do was scream and cry as this pain lasted for nearly 2 hours. This pain would happen a few times every month for the last 2 months and I couldn't figure out why. I decided to ask my father about it tomorrow as I was exhausted from the experience.

The next day I woke up and found out chef Simon in the kitchen preparing breakfast. We also have a maid named Susan who is his mate. They are the sweetest people and they have become close to me due to the fact that I see them everyday.

"Good Morning Susan and Simon." I say with a smile on my face as I walk into the kitchen.

"Good Morning Luna!" They say in a unison monotone that makes my heart jump. I absolutely admired their mate bond.

"Have either of you seen my husband this morning?" I asked, hoping that I missed him instead of the more likely option. Which is him not coming home at all.

"No, I'm sorry. Maybe he left before we arrived." Susan replies with an empathetic tone.

Simon sets a plate in front of me that has Eggs, bacon, sausage, and raisin bread toast.

" This looks absolutely amazing Simon thank you." I say as I'm about to dig in.

Before Simon could respond and before I could take a bite the pain hits me. All I could do was hold my chest which cause me to knock my food off the countertop. It was not as long as usual it only for about 10 minutes. As I began to open my eyes Simon and Susan are standing over me asking if I'm okay.

" Yes I'm okay. I'm not quite sure what happened but it's been happening for about to months." I say shakily as they are helping me up.

They both look at each with a look that says they know what it is but won't say.

" What the hell was that?!" Sage asked me

" I don't know but I'm damn sure about to ask." I say sternly.

"Do either of you know what is causing me this pain?" I asked them in an almost demanding tone.

"I'm so sorry Luna I really don't want to be the one to tell you something like this." Susan responded without making eye contact.

"Tell me what it is Susan I promise that I will not be angry with you." I replied in the softest voice that I could give at the moment due to anxiety growing in my belly.

"They are betrayal pains Luna." She said as she held my hand.

"I can't wait to kill him!" Sage said with a growl.

All I could do was stare at Susan in disbelief. I know Ezra and I aren't in love. I know neither of us wanted this marriage but I believed the we were committed to this bond between us. I stood from the couch in the foyer, grabbed my keys and purse and headed out the door.
