Nina

I turned back sharply to see it was Caspian behind me. I rushed to him as I held his arm. “What is wrong in your house? Why is everywhere so silent?” I asked, but he didn't seem interested in my question.

“I asked what you are doing here. This isn't somewhere you can be,” he said, and just at that moment, I heard a sound from a corner, most likely the corner he was coming from, and my curiosity getting the best of me, I inched forward.

“Who was that?” I asked as I did, and he pulled me back, dragging me towards the back of a pillar in the house as he signaled for me to keep quiet.

Still making sure his hands were placed on my lips, he peeped out from the pillar, carefully scanning with his eyes whoever he didn't want to see me. “I already told you. You shouldn't be here,” he said finally pulling his hand off my lips, probably because the coast was finally clear.

“So what's wrong? What exactly are we hiding from, and why did you just start to ignore me after you greatly disrespected Sage at his burial?” I bombarded him with questions, but he just kept a straight face as he insisted on his previous words.

“I will answer all your questions later, but right now, find a hotel to lodge in and stay there. I will come to you after a few minutes,” he said, but I shook my head negatively. Everyone was acting so weirdly, and I was going to know the answer now and not later.

“I am not leaving this place until you answer my questions. Moreover, this isn't the first time I am getting here, so why are you acting like this?” I asked, but this time with a more serious expression, like he had something to lose. He pleaded with his eyes.

“Nina, please, not now. You have to leave fast, or I would regret it,” he said, this time not talking about me but himself. What could actually go wrong that he was so pressed?

“Okay, I will…” I said, but an unknown voice interrupted my words as he came through to where we hid.

“Come in! Why are you hiding in your own house?” the person asked, his face not looking familiar one bit. He was a new face in Caspian's house, and for some reason, he could talk to him like that.

“I don't think I have to take your permission for whatever I do,” Caspian said, pausing for a while as he stared hard at him and grabbed my hand. “Also, make sure to ignore me the next time you see me,” Caspian said as he attempted to move, but his voice made him stop.

“Don't be in such a hurry, big bro. You still haven't introduced this new face you brought into the house,” he said, gazing at me sharply as I confirmed my thoughts. Truly, I didn't know him, and he also didn't know me.

Caspian looked at me for a while, a little hesitant to speak, before, with a smile rising on his face, he said, “She's my fiancée, the one you heard about in the proposal on the news.” His eyes enlarged at him, but he didn't quiver.

“Oh, but why are you taking our sister-in-law away from us?” he asked, and Caspian rolled his eyes, seemingly uninterested in answering his silly question.

“I am not ready for your questionnaires, Brain, especially now that she is here. We have a lot of things to catch up on,” he said, gripping my hand stronger as we were about to turn away when he pulled out a hand.

“Nice to meet you, I am Brain,” he said, pointing his hand towards me, and although I was about to return the pleasantries, he returned my hand as he hugged me with his other arm.

“We appreciate your goodwill, but no, you can't touch my woman,” Caspian said, grabbing my hands tightly as he stomped up the stairs, smoke almost emitting from his ears. It was now obvious that he was very angry, even though Brain still seemed a little considerate.

“Why are you so angry? What's wrong?” I asked as he ran his hands through his hair, very unwilling to answer that question before he looked at me.

“Why are you even here?” he asked as he held me by the shoulder. “I don't want you to be here. I don't want you involved in this. I don't want you in danger,” he said, and I could see him fighting back the sadness in his eyes.

For some reason, I couldn't help but feel like this was all related to him, to Sage’s death. “You can't. I don't just get why you are taking it as such a big thing because I am in your house,” I said, and he immediately pulled his hand away as he walked away a few steps sharply.

“That was then, but now things have changed. I don't think you will even be able to recognize any face that you see in this mansion anymore,” he said, and I nodded slowly, seeing his concerns and worries very clearly, but I was still left a little confused.

“What exactly went wrong when I left?” I asked, and he turned back, his eyes looking around aimlessly as he quivered, but he soon sighed as he walked towards me.

“You don't have to worry about all of that now that he has seen you. All you have to do is pack up and leave this state today,” he said as he smiled at me, but I shook my head negatively as I shook his hand off my shoulders.

“I can't leave this state. It was my dad who told me to come here and get the answers I need, and also that state is too dangerous for me. Even with the numerous guards, I still received a threat,” I said, and his eyes glinted as he shifted closer to me.

“You received a threat?” he said before getting into a moment of thought. He seemed to know something about what had actually happened, and he also continued, “Your dad was the one who told you? What was he…”

Just as he spoke, a call from my dad cut his words short, and a smile rose on my face as I picked it up. I could finally hear his voice after that time.

“Hello, Dad!”

“Nina, where are you? I thought I told you not to leave the house, that I would explain everything to you later. Why did you leave?” His words left me in a state of confusion as I stared on, unsure of what to say.

If it wasn't him, then who was it?

Nina“Hello..hello..can you hear me?” My father's voice snapped me out of my thoughts as I removed the phone from my ears and placed the phone on speaker so he could hear.“What do you mean? You told me to go to Caspian that the city wasn't safe. Don't you remember?” I asked, but his voice sounded confused and afflicted as Caspian looked at me weirdly; this was everything far from what I wanted.“I don't, I didn't tell you to do that. I can never…” He said, desperation obvious in his voice, and my heart ached. What exactly was going on? Why was everyone so…? “Wait, give the phone to Caspian.”I raised a brow as I asked, “How do you know I am with him?” I asked, and all I heard was a scoff from the other end as Caspian took up the phone, putting off the speaker, and walked away to receive the call while I paced back and forth in his room.Though it was a part of my plan to come here in the first place, after that message, there was no way I could, and I sure didn't want him thinking th
