A chilly sea breeze hit Valerie's face as George dragged her along as they galloped. Jose's bodyguards would now know that there was an intruder and Valerie had run away. They are being chased.

George led Valerie through the tall bush at the end of a rocky beach that was seldom crossed. Prior to this island, George had studied its structure and knew that this rocky part of the site would likely escape from scrutiny, because the structure makes it impossible to anchor the boat.

However, George did not get rid of it. He moored a small anchor for his boat which he left slightly out to sea, in a dark corner. Then he swam toward the island, rising silently to the mainland in the darkness.

That method apparently succeeded in getting him to the island without being caught by anyone and even escaping into the house.
