19: Truth Or Lies

"Why?" He breathed shakily.

"Why do you keep lying to me in order to protect me?" He asked and I cupped the side of his face.

"I would lie to you if it meant that it would keep you from feeling the pain of knowing the bitter truth. But, I really don't know what this is about. We have talked about the fact that I used to commit suicide. But, I promised you that I wouldn't do that again--"

"When I asked you to tell me the people I'd killed, why didn't you tell me that using my terrible powers, I'd once murdered the woman who'd birthed me?" Altan said and I froze, my eyes widening.

"You... know about that?" I breathed and he sighed, a downcast look in his eyes.

"While I was unconscious, I saw her"

"You did?"

"It was after I gained consciousness that I recalled what I'd done"

"You know it wasn't entirely your fault. If you could stop it, you would have. Please, don't be too hard on yourself" I said, pressing a kiss to his jaw.

I embraced him and closed my eyes. He relaxed
