“RAYA, you have to accept my uncle's offer. It’s a good thing he hired you right away!” untag ni Sean dahilan para ilang ulit akong mapakurap.

“Hmp. I don’t think she'll last. Given how strict your uncle is,” umirap si Annie.

I chuckled. “I get it now. You betrayed me because of the merger, right?”

“Oh, come on. Don’t dwell in the past, Raya. What we had was good, wasn’t it? I pampered and spoiled you.” Sean let out a sigh. “But right now, I can’t lose the mother company’s support. You know what I’m saying, Raya? Of all the people, I can’t offend Uncle Hugo.”

“My love, I can’t believe your uncle looks too young.” Marahang napatango si Annie at idinugtong, “maybe we could ask for help from your grandparents.”

Mariing umiling si Sean. “No, you don’t understand. Uncle Hugo is the youngest grandson from the main family. Ours is just the third branch. Uncle Hugo is a business genius that’s why the BH was entrusted to him at a young age. He is just seven years my senior. Once he cuts ties with this firm, my family will be left with nothing.”

I smirked upon hearing it. “Then that’s not my problem. Your relationship with your uncle is definitely not my concern. Besides, I don’t want to see you anymore. At hanggang maari, ayaw ko nang magkaroon tayo ng kahit ano pa mang uganayan. Because you're right, we’re done.”

Annie held Sean’s arm intimately. “Good riddance, Hiraya.”

I chose to remain silent. The Blaquier Holdings was one of the biggest companies in Asia, kaya isang malaking achievement ang makapagtrabaho roon. Plus, I would be working directly with the boss.

And looking at these two, I suddenly thought of a way to get even. Sean was afraid of Hugo, and come to think of it, what would be his reaction once he learned I became his uncle’s woman?

“Is there something funny?” Inis na tanong ni Annie.

“Nothing. I just realized now, bagay na bagay kayong dalawa.” I said with sarcasm as I shook my head and turned away.

I was about to put on my seat belt nang biglang tumunog ang cellphone ko at nakita kong tumatawag si Camille. It was a video call.

“Ate…” Bungad ni Camille. She looked like a mess as she was crying.

Bigla akong nag-alala. “What happened?”

“Mom threatened with the engagement with the Torres family once I’m of age. Ate help me, I’m too young to be married off.” Muling humikbi si Camille.

‘Damn it!’ Biglang napahigpit ang paghawak ko sa cellphone.

“Take it easy. I will make sure that won’t happen, okay?” I reassured her.

“No, Ate. Kilala mo ang mommy. Her ambition to elevate our family’s status just like in the past made her blind for reasons. I’ll be eighteen in three months, I can’t just run away and let her ruin my future.”

It seemed my mother wanted to hit two birds in one stone, making Camille the leverage.

“Calm down, I’ll talk with Mom when I get home. Don’t stress yourself and just focus on your studies. She’d just pressured me to marry Sean especially now that she found out we broke up.”

Nagulat si Camille sa kabilang linya. “You broke up, but why?”

Umiling ako nang mariin. “Let’s talk about it next time. I will find a way about your situation, don’t worry.”

“Thanks, Ate Raya. I don’t know what to do.”

“I’m always here for you, Cam.”

I drove home, and as expected, my mom was already waiting for me inside the living room.

“Finally, you’re here,” salubong na wika niya.

“What is it again, Mom?”

“I’m marrying off Camille,” walang emosyong wika ni mommy.

I chuckled in disbelief. “Don’t make her the leverage forcing me to go back with Sean. Ayaw na niya sa akin, Mom. Why can’t you understand?”

“At bakit siya aayaw nang walang dahilan? It’s your fault! He’s been good to you.”

Lalo akong natawa nang pagak. “Sean cheated on me Annie. Satisfied now?”

Sandaling natigilan ang mommy nang marinig iyon. Pero agad din namang nakahuma. “You’re prettier than Annie, for Pete’s sake! Hindi sa ‘yo maagaw si Sean kung hindi ka nagpabaya!”

Pinigil ko ang sarili kong sumagot kahit nagpanting ang tainga ko sa narinig. Alam kong hindi makikinig sa anumang rason si Mommy. But I couldn’t let her ruin Camille’s future.

“Look, Mom. Camille is your youngest daughter. Where’s your conscience? Sander is an old man preying on her.”

“Then why don’t you take her place and marry Sander instead? Tutal naman ayaw mong makipagbalikan kay Sean.”

“Unbelievable!” I clicked my tongue. As expected, my mother was very meticulous indeed.

“Leave Camille out of this, Mom. Give me three months, I’ll try my best to win back Sean.” I was just buying time.

“One month, Raya. You have one month to get Sean back and make him marry you. Or else, I’ll marry off Camille or you take her place.”

I rolled my eyes heavenward. “One month it is. I will rest now.”

My mind was racing. I was thinking of running away with Camille, but my savings wouldn’t be enough to survive long term.

I was concerned about Camille’s studies. I’d support her no matter what.

Bigla kong naisip si Hugo. Mukhang wala akong ibang choice kundi tanggapin ang alok nitong trabaho.

“This too, shall pass. Bahala na…” I mumbled.

ANNIE“SEAN!” I was horrified to see my fiancé suddenly jump into the water when Hiraya was dragged down. Kahit halos magkasabay na nag-dive sa tubig sina Hugo at Vito.‘What the heck?!’ I silently cursed.“Oh, my goodness! Hiraya!” Shasta Walton exclaimed beside me. Bakas ang pagkabahala sa mukha nito.I gritted my teeth in silence. She must be an expert in manipulating people. Sean even rushed the announcement of our formal engagement right after their family banquet. The Blaquier’s must really like me.Nakita kong iniahon ni Hugo si Hiraya sa tubig. I glared at Sean. But I’d surely talk to him about it. Nakakairita kasi. And even now, I could see Sean’s face in distress as Hugo checked Hiraya’s pul

“IT’S a done deal na, Hiraya. You'll be the cupid between Hugo and I. Tell me his preferences in everything,” ani Shasta habang naglalakad kami pabalik sa kinaroroonan ni Hugo.“N-No problem,” I faked a smile. It would be a great insult to Shasta and her family. ‘No way!’ Kinilabutan ako sa naisip ko. I could never betray Hugo. ‘Stop torturing yourself with these nonsense, Hiraya! You knew the consequences of marrying Hugo. Huwag kang umastang talunan. You benefit more compared to him. Bakit ka nag-iinarte?’ Lihim kong pinagalitan a

He was looking at me when I opened my eyes. Hugo looked fresh, it seemed he was just waiting for me to wake up. “Good morning, sweetheart! Let me prepare your tea.” Akma itong tatayo pero pinigilan ko siya. “Huwag na. I'm getting up.” Bumangon ako at humikab. “Your family schedule is surely hectic. Kayanin kaya ng katawan ng lola mo?” “Oo naman. Well, were supposed to stay last night in the ancestral house. But considering what happened to you, I decided to go home. I can't compromise your peace of mind.” “How considerate of you.” Ngumiti ako. But I tried not to show how touched I was with his gesture. Hugo was clear wit

She was already tipsy.“Wait, she can sleep in the guest room. It’s getting late,” ani Shasta.I looked at Bryan as if asking for help. Mukhang nahumaling sa akin si Shasta magkwento. At habang marami akong nalalaman tungkol sa kanya, lalo naman akong nagi-guilty at nakokonsensya.“Miss Walton, she needs to go,” sabi pa ni Bryan.Shasta frowned. “Sige na nga!”I excused myself and slowly walked out the banquet hall. Bryan went inside the driver’s seat after he opened the passenger door for me. I was surprised to see Hugo sitting there.“What are you waiting for? Hurry up!” He gently grabbed my hand, and I sat beside him.“This is risky. What if one of your family members saw us?”“So what? Can’t I send my secreta

I sat beside her, and Vito approached us.“Hey, Raya! I heard what happened earlier,” there was a hint of concern on Vito’s voice.“Who told you about the incident? It’s supposed to be secret since it concerns Hiraya’s dignity,” wika ni Shasta sa mahinang boses.Vito glared at Shasta. “I’m not talking to you, brat. You’re not a Blaquier, you shouldn’t be here in the first place.”Shasta rolled her eyes. “Oh? But I will be. My marriage with Hugo is approaching. I will not invite you.”Bakas naman ang disgusto sa mukha ni Vito. “Stop assuming. You’re just a brat and I know Hugo’s type—it’s not you.”Tumikhim ako para sawayin ang dalawa. I couldn’t believe two grown adults would bicker like kids.Itinuon sa akin ang atensyon ni Shasta. “Ignore him, Hiraya. He’s not worth our time.”Alanganin akong ngumiti.

SEAN“AMARA, go with your dad.” Uncle Hugo dismissed the little girl along with her father.“Your secretary is surely something, brother.” Marahang napailing si Uncle Andro.“And that’s not your concern,” ani Uncle Hugo sa malamig na tono. I could feel the animosity between them.“Fleur, let’s go.” Uncle Andro fixed the frame of his eyeglasses, then he left carrying his daughter while Fleur was behind them. I said calmly.Uncle Hugo may look calm, but everyone in the family knew that the calmer he looked, the more dangerous he was. I couldn’t even read his expression. But it seemed it wasn’t the case.Uncle Hugo waited for us to be alone before he spoke.“Great, now explain,” tipid na wika nito.“Well, I admit, I lied. Hiraya saved the kid; I was blinded with anger that I told Uncle Andro she pushed Amara—” I couldn’t even fin
