~Eve pov~
I walked stealthily into the doctor’s office, it’s been almost an hour since my blood was taken to be tested. I sat across from Dr Felix, her fixes were fixed on her computer, but I could tell she briefly acknowledged my presence with a little nod.
“Here,” she handed over a letter to me, “you are perfectly fine, Eve.” She finished with a smile.
“So I don’t have any problem right?.” I stated, staring at the letter in my hands.
“I’m still figuring out how we can help your husband, if there are no way, then you should consider surrogacy or implantation.” She said, but the fact that she mentioned my husband was quite surprising.
“You mean my husband has been here? And he has a problem?” I asked, shifting in my seat.
“Were you not aware?” She asked, looking surprised. “I’m sorry, but that means I just divulged a patient’s personal information, so you can’t tell him you heard it from me.” She said, and I could see her eyes begging me.
I didn’t say anything before I left the doctor’s office. My mother in-law has been calling me all sorts of names for the past three years, but suddenly she started calling me a sterile woman because I was yet to give her a child. I asked my husband to come with me to the hospital so we can be tested and see what the problem was, but he flatly refused. He said he was the one who told his mother about my infertility because he knows he had no problem. But it turned out, he was the problem, not only was he infertile, but he had to make me take the blame to cover up for himself before his mother.
The plan was to go back home and shove my test result in their faces, but nothing prepared me for the sigh before me when I got home.
I saw a woman, sitting across Brian with my mother in-law.
“Eve, meet Morgan, the girl Biran was supposed to get married to before he ended up with you.” Tracy, my mother in-law said, words rolling off her tongue like what she had just said wasn’t a big deal.
“And what is she doing here?” I asked in annoyance.
“What do you think? She is probably here to see how Brian is doing.” Tesie, my sister in-law, replied from where she was sitting, scrolling through her phone.
I turned to Brian, “Brian?” I questioned him with my eyes.
“Don’t worry Eve, Morgan is just a friend. She has been out of town for years, she must have missed me…I mean us,” he spread out his arms so I’ll know the ‘us’ he was referring to, “so she is here to say hi.” He concluded.
I didn’t reply to him, I walked into our room instead. I had no idea he had another woman in his life before we started dating. He was a hotshot back then in school, so it’s no doubt girls were after him. But he told me I was the first girl he ever brought home to his parents. I wondered why his parents were not pleased with me at first, particularly his mom and sister, but now I know why.
They had seen him with a girl who was better and classier than me, I bet she is from a good background too compared to me.
Brian walked into the room fifteen minutes later, I was lying on the bed, not wanting to acknowledge him. It’s not like he would listen if I complain to him. He will tell me I am overreacting again, just like what he said when his mother first raised her on me, when his sister took my things and claimed they belonged to her. Whatever happened in the house was me overreacting according to Brian. He had almost brainwashed me into thinking I was being delusional about what was being done to me in that house.
“You are not sulking because of Morgan, are you?” He said, sitting close to my legs.
“Why did you lie?” I asked, my back still facing him.
“About what?” He asked, probably feigning ignorance.
“You said I was the first woman you had taken seriously, the first to know your mother. But what about her?” I tried to keep my tears in.
“Morgan?” Was he being serious, who else would I be referring to? “About her, It was just a few times. Yeah, I wanted to take things to the next level with her, but her education was more important to her. She wanted to further her education, I wanted to settle down.” He explained, shrugging his shoulders after speaking.
“How do you feel seeing her again?” I didn’t know if I was asking the right question.
“I feel nothing. My feelings for her died long ago.” I was backing him, so I couldn’t tell if he was lying or not. But I hope he was telling the truth.
“Okay.”
“It’s almost lunch time, you should head to the kitchen to prepare lunch.” He stood up and walked away.
I almost forgot I was the housemaid.
Morgan had left before I finished cooking, which I am glad she did. I set the table, and everyone gathered to eat— a ritual I hate being a part of. Just as I expected, a few minutes after we started eating, Tracy started talking about how excellent Morgan was.
“Morgan was a first class student back in school right?” She turned to Brian. I was also a first class student, but I didn’t attend a reputable school, so it didn’t matter.
“Yes.” Brian briefly said, not taking his eyes away from his food.
I didn’t know if he answered that way because the food was too sweet, or because he didn’t care about it again for real, but I hoped it was the latter.
It’s been almost two weeks since Morgan came for the first time, but she literally turned our house to her second home after then. She never failed to show up six times a week. I kept complaining to Brian, but he kept saying I was overreacting. And the fact that his mother treated her like a wife whenever she was around was more unnerving.
I decided to try my luck today again and went for an interview I sent my applications for. The interview was brief as always, the moment I mentioned the school I graduated from, everything else I said no matter how intelligent it sounded like trash.
I got back home to see my mother in-law and Tesie were not around. But there was a red heel by the door. I hoped it wasn’t what popped up in my mind, so I walked stealthily into the bedroom, ignoring the sounds coming from there.
“Oh my god, Eve! You are not supposed to be back this soon.” Brian said, bringing the duvet up to his chest level.
I leaned towards my right side to get a clear view of the woman in bed with him, and it’s just who I expected it to be.
Morgan.
Eve’s POV “Something smells nice.” I turned to the voice behind me. It was Mark. I chuckled. I decided to make lunch with Mrs Rachel after our conversation and after having my breakfast. I made my father’s favorite. He should be awake soon. “Mr Nathan said you are in the kitchen.” Mark said as he took a seat to join us.“Good day Mr. Mark.” Mrs Rachel said to Mark and they exchanged their greetings before she excused herself to set the table. “Good thing you came in at the right time. We just finished preparing lunch.” I said to mark as I placed some cups on the table. “I can tell.” He chuckled.“Do you have everything we need on Macherry enterprise?” I asked as I poured each of us a glass of wine. It was a nonalcoholic fruit wine I had already drunk from earlier. “Yes.” He said as he took a sip from his glass. We headed to the dining table to have lunch together and I told Mrs Rachel to take my fathers food to his room. I will be there to help him eat. Lunch was quick for Ma
Eve’s POV “Hello Logan.” I said with a small voice. But he was still quiet on the other side of the phone but regardless I could tell he was listening. “Thank you for the flowers and gifts you sent earlier.” I added. I had to mention it again since he didn’t reply to my text and I am still very grateful to him. “How is Mr Arthur doing?” He finally said something back. His voice was firm and he was straightforward as always. “He is getting better. The doctor said he can be discharged today.” I explained it to him as I began to think about the next thing to say. “Uhm.. I was wondering if it’s ok that I spend a few days with my dad since he is still in recovery and I also have some urgent work to catch up with my assistant Mark.” I asked him. I had to ask regardless, even if our marriage isn’t the type where we actually care about what the next person is doing. It is only right that I run it by him first since we had to cancel our honeymoon because of the sudden incident. “Take yo
Eve’s POV I came out of the restroom with a small smile on my face after sending a text message to Logan to thank him for his support and the gifts he sent. Although he didn't reply to my text I could tell that he viewed it.I walked up to Mark who was talking to doctor Chris. “Eve, you are here.” Mark said as I joined them. “Yes.” I nodded softly.“I was just asking Mark about you,” Doctor Chris added. “How is my father doing doctor Chris?” I asked with faith. “Please come with me to my office.” He tells me. I wasn’t expecting anything other than good news but for some reason I was still nervous. I nodded and followed at his request as we both excused ourselves leaving Mark to say with my father. “Mr Arthur is more stable and can be discharged today.” Doctor Chris tells me after we took our seats. His words came with a level of relief he wouldn’t understand even if I tried to explain. “Thank you doctor Chris.” I said I took his hands into mine before letting go of them. “H
Eve’s POV My eyes opened gently when I felt a gentle pat on my head. It was my dad. He sent me a small smile. I didn’t move an inch and I stayed with him throughout the night after having three cups of coffee. I guess I still passed out. “Dad, you are awake.” I said with my morning voice. He looked better than he was yesterday when I came in. “I should call the doctor.” I added. Although he was looking better, I could tell he was still weak. I gave him a kiss on the forehead before I left. Just as I was about to step outside of the room I bumped into the doctor. “Good morning Mrs Eve.” Doctor Chris said as he made his way into the room. “Good morning doctor good thing you are here I was just about to come to you.” I said excitedly. He gave me a knowing look and sent me a small smile.“Mr Arthur you are awake.” He added. I watched him as he looked through the record he was holding. “Why don’t you get some rest Mrs Eve while I examine your father.” Doctor Chris added. I nodded
Eve’s POV “Hi dad.” I gently patted on his head. My eyes tear up at the sight, he was looking so pale. “Eve, what are you doing here?” He tried to speak but he was sounding very weak. “Save your strength dad.” I held on to his hand and gently rubbed on it. While Logan was standing right next to me. I resisted all the urge to cry but I couldn't, tears fell freely from my eyes. My honeymoon must have ended before it started but I do not mind. I was only going for it because I promised Arthur that I would. But he was more important to me than a honeymoon. Logan and I were headed for the airport already when I got a text from Nathan that my dad was in the hospital. My phone immediately slipped out of my hand and fell to the ground. My eyes well in tears. I couldn’t think for a moment there. Logan immediately drove off from the road and stopped. From his expression, I could tell that he was worried. “Eve, what’s going on?” His voice was firm. I couldn’t respond. The fear of being
Logan’s povI walked into the living room to find Two faced standing in a white mini night gown. Her snow white skin complimented the dress and her curves were more visible. From the look on her face I couldn't tell she was lost. I was going to pretend like I didn’t see her and pass by when she called for my attention. I almost wasn’t listening to what she was saying because of her body. Damn she is so hot and I hate that I see her that way. I didn’t want to stay around her for another minute. I don’t trust myself after seeing her so many times in my sleep, so I just agree to whatever she says. It wasn’t a bad idea after all and it might just make grandma’s private investigator get off our backs. Since we would be going on a little vacation I decided to tell two faced that we would be stopping by at grandma's place. She couldn’t make it to the wedding because she was sick but I was willing to postpone it, but she refused because she thought it was one of my ways to avoid getting m
Eve’s POV So that is what this is about. I sighed. “Let me make something clear to you Emily.” I said taking a step closer to her. “I am your boss.” My voice was calm and my face was straight. “You don’t tell me what I can or cannot do.” I usually don’t speak to my employees like that and I tr
Eve’s POV It was enough that I had to deal with Logan this morning now having Emily be the second person I would be seeing this morning. I was sure it wasn’t my day today. This is my home. I wonder what she must be doing here. We just had our wedding yesterday, the least she can do is give us som
Eve’s POV I woke up to the bright morning sun kissing my face and a rather loud noise on my door. I didn’t have to wonder who it might be. I knew it must be Logan. He made sure to make a lot clear to me last night. Unlike most people’s wedding night when they get to explore each other and sweetl
Eve’s pov“What are you doing here?” My eyes widened in horror when the lights turned back on. “Please just listen to me, Eve.” He moved to take a step closer. “Don’t!” I yelled. “Please I just need one minute of your time, I just…” He was still talking. “You are not getting even a second of m
