Liam’s POV

As she handed me her house address, I couldn’t understand why she’d let a man speak to her that way. It’s not like I cared what happened to her; I just found it disrespectful how a lowlife could speak to an heiress like that. Did she really not tell him who she was? Because he seemed clueless.

I took the card from her hand, staring down at her hazel eyes, and a smirk formed on my lips. If only she knew the person she was dealing with right now, a cheating ex would be the least of her problems.

She didn’t wait for another word as she got into her car and drove away.

“Boss, I must say, what you’re wearing is ugly,” Posh said, emerging from behind me while I stared at her moving car. He wasn’t wrong. It was quality, but not my style.

“Let’s go. I have some things to take care of before meeting her later at her place,” I said, walking toward my sleek black SUV with Posh trailing behind me.

“You’re walking into the enemy’s territory, boss. Why don’t we just get it over with now? You’ve been plotting your revenge for years, and now it’s right in front of you,” Posh explained, opening the car door for me. I hopped in while he hurried to the driver’s seat, and my other three bodyguards used the Mercedes-Benz directly behind us.

“I know, but it’s too easy that way. Vinichi doesn’t know me; his spoiled daughter doesn’t either, so I’m not in a haste. I want to see where all of this will lead and how long she can put on an act for her family,” I replied, leaning back comfortably in my car seat.

“Okay, boss. Bad news, your clothes were shrunk when they were being dry-cleaned.” Posh looked at me through the front mirror. It was funny because he was expecting me to lash out, but I couldn’t—not when those clothes not coming on time had given me the best opportunity yet.

“It’s fine, big guy. Now, call Veron. Tell him to write back to Vinichi, like my dad, saying I’m willing to marry his daughter tomorrow by noon.” I smirked at how well my brain came up with ideas.

“Right away, boss,” he replied and passed on the instructions immediately.

Vinichi was a sneaky bastard, but I was sneakier than he could ever be. If he wanted Aliya to get married to Liam so badly, then what I’d do now would make her want to avoid that marriage with the real Liam and marry Nick—which is still me.

How I came up with these ideas, I have absolutely no idea. It’d be easier to work around her as Nick the poor guy than as Liam the rich and arrogant one.

Before long, we arrived at my mansion. The sunlight reflected off its polished exterior, highlighting the neatly trimmed trees and the tall, white building. A clear reminder of how far I’d come. We drove down the long driveway until the car came to a smooth stop.

I got out of the car immediately and made my way inside. The place was eerily quiet—just how I liked it—but people worked as always. Maids carrying dishes, the butler ensuring everywhere was neat. I hated noise, and they all understood that, always making sure to obey my orders and worked in silence.

“Posh, I need you to find me some loose cash and hail me a cab. I’ll be out in a while,” I said, turning to him as he followed me. He raised a brow in confusion but didn’t dare question me.

“Yes, boss,” he bowed and walked away.

I moved upstairs when my phone rang. I looked at the screen, and it was my dad’s doctor.

“Is something wrong?” I asked immediately after picking up the call, making my way to my bedroom.

“Hello, Mr. De Luca. Everything is great. Your dad has just been requesting to see you a lot lately. It’d be nice if you could pay him a visit.” Dr. Pete’s words made my heart hurt and the anger in me fuelled even more when I remembered dad’s condition.

“Okay, can you stall for me? I’m busy, but I’ll be there next week,” I pleaded, and he accepted.

“Very well then. Have a nice evening, Mr. De Luca.” His old voice came through the phone, and I thanked him for always making sure my dad was okay.

My dad would’ve never needed a fucking doctor and wouldn’t be confined to his own home like a thief if Vinichi hadn’t destroyed our family. Ever since that dreadful night, nothing had been the same, and that was why I would burn him, his family, and his entire wealth to the ground—starting with his lovely daughter. I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling thinking of my family as the day slowly turned to night.

“Fuck!” I cursed when I looked at my watch and saw it was past 5 p.m. already. That brat had asked me to come by 5, and now I had gotten so lost in plotting my revenge that I totally forgot. It was going to be difficult for me because no one gave me orders, but if I wanted to earn her trust, then I’d have to learn not to disappoint her.

I stepped out of my bedroom and made my way downstairs. Posh stood by the doors as always, waiting for me. “Boss, are you sure you don’t want me to drive you there?” he asked with worried eyes.

“If you do that, it’ll blow my cover. So, from today, I’m not Liam De Luca outside this house. I’m Nick, and you’re my best friend, Posh. There’ll come a time I’ll need you. For now, give me what I asked for,” I said with a sinister smile as he handed me some loose change.

“The cab’s waiting for you outside the gates,” he announced. I nodded and made my way outside to find an old taxi that sure didn’t fit Liam’s aesthetics but will fit Nick’s.

I got in without sparing Posh a second glance, and the car sped off.

After what felt like an eternity, the car finally stopped.

“Sir, we’ve arrived,” the cranky driver said, turning to face me. I dipped my hand into my pocket, pulled out some cents, and handed them to him.

I stepped out of the car and could finally breathe properly. “This is crazy!” I exclaimed inwardly as I stared at Aliya’s penthouse. I couldn’t believe I was mixing myself up with a Van Alen.

“No security? So much for being a wealthy man’s daughter,” I murmured as I scanned the environment. Everything was silent. I stood in front of her doors and noticed they were slightly ajar.

I wasn’t an expert, but I could tell something wasn’t right. So, I pulled out my gun, pushed the doors open, and made my way inside the house. It was empty.

“Aliya?” I tried calling out, but no one answered. The place looked like a catfight had taken place: the chairs were turned over, some windows had been broken and I could see gigantic footprints that obviously didn’t belong to Aliya.

I began making my way up the stairs slowly and stopped in front of a door when I heard a struggling voice. It sounded like Aliya’s.

In one go, I aimed for the door with my left leg and broke it down forcefully. That’s when my eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

Two armed men were standing guard, and one huge man was on top of Aliya, trying to take advantage of her.

“Help me, Nick!” she screamed, but was slapped across the face and she winced in pain. My chest clenched at the scene unraveling before me. I shouldn’t care and I should be happy she was in pain but for some unknown reason, I felt like burning these men to the grown for hurting her.

The two men who stood guard noticed me now but didn’t move. I walked over, placing the gun over the big guy’s head who was on Aliya. When he turned around and realized who it was he hurriedly got away from Aliya.

“Leave before I kill you all!” I yelled, and they ran off.

Aliya trembled in fear as she rushed to me, holding me tightly.

“Thank you, Nick. Thank you for saving me,” she wailed, thanking me.

But she was wrong.

I didn’t save her. She almost got hurt because of me. Those men were my men.

Aliya’s POV “The Truth.” I stared at those two words, reading them over and over again. My fingers hovered above the page, trembling with hesitation. Just as I was about to keep reading, a familiar voice came through the receiver—sharp, female, and so unmistakable that it made my entire body tense. “There’s a reason why things happen the way they do, Aliya. But the biggest one… is that you were born a Van Alen.” I froze and my heart dropped. I knew that voice. I could never mistake it—not in a million years. “Hello?” I yanked the phone closer to my mouth, yelling into the receiver. “Hello?!” But the line had already gone dead. “No. No, it can’t be what I’m thinking. It’s impossible.” I dropped the phone like it had scorched my skin, a bitter, shaky laugh tumbling out of my throat. My chest felt tight—like something heavy had just been placed on it. Trying to compose myself, I turned my attention back to the sheet of paper I was holding. My eyes landed again on the

  • Love, Lies and Billions   Chapter 60

Aliya’s POV A week had passed since Nala planted that seed in my head, and sleep had evaded me ever since. Every time I tried to get some shut-eye, I had the same dream. My dad is in a red suit, black horns pointing out of his forehead, a trident in his hands, and a demonic smirk plastered on his face. Five minutes into the dream, I find myself strapped to a chair. On my left is my mum, also bound, tears streaming down her beautiful face. I yell and call out to her, but before she can understand and turn her head in my direction, she’s stabbed in the heart by Vinichi—by my dad. I always wake up drenched in sweat, to Nick’s worried face and a glass of water in his hands. The dream—no, the nightmare—always leaves me with one thing: that satisfied smirk on Vinichi’s face. It’s burned into my memory, and every effort to think of something else becomes futile. Nick constantly bombards me with questions about what’s been going on, but what can I tell him, huh? That I have nigh

Aliya’s POV “William?” I shook my head in disbelief. “That’s impossible. For all I know, you could be making this up just to get me to help you.” “I may be a lot of things, but I would never make up something like this,” Nala said, her tone tinged with disappointment. “Open your mind, Aliya. If no one else has told you this, then let me be the first. You’re too naive. I’m not insane enough to bring this up if I didn’t think I could gather real evidence.” My eyes stung. Was I really naive just because I refused to believe the man I’d known as a second father—though technically a butler—had helped end my mother’s life? No. That was literally impossible. William was a kind soul. He couldn’t have. Nala stood, walked up to me, and held my hands. “Aliya, I swear to you, this is the truth. All you have to do is help me get back into that mansion so I can secure some inheritance for my mother and me, and I’ll help you search for the evidence. Just get Camille out.” I didn’t kn

Aliya’s POVCuriosity overwhelmed me as I twirled in my seat. Documents lay before me awaiting my signature, but all I could do was fidget—waiting for Nala like my life depended on it. Suddenly, a knock came at the door, jolting me. “Hi, ma’am.” My other assistant who had filled in for Brooke, walked in with a practiced smile. For some reason, Brooke hadn’t come to work for two days now, and I couldn’t reach her either. I had this nagging feeling that something was terribly wrong, though I couldn’t quite place what. “A certain Miss Nala is here to—” “Send her in.” I cut her off quickly, startling her for a brief moment. With a nod, she exited, and seconds later the door opened again, revealing Nala. She offered a faint smile, standing just at the entrance. “Never thought I’d be this eager to talk to you, sis.” “Neither did I,” I replied. “Please, come in.” Nala moved with poise—like the queen she had always forced herself into becoming. Her red heels clicked acros

Third Person’s POVNala paced the room, then turned abruptly and threw a dart at the wall missing, her target.“Fuck!” she cried out, running a hand through her damp hair.“Let’s do this one last time,” she muttered, stepping back, narrowing her eyes, then aiming again. This time, the dart landed precisely on the spot she wanted—Camille’s forehead.“Bingo!” she cheered.“Let’s see how you make baseless accusations without a brain to think with,” Nala laughed hysterically, picking up the glass of scotch from the table and downing it in one go.She threw herself onto the bed, eyes staring at the unfamiliar ceiling. She had spent two nights already at the Masini Hotel and was beginning to lose her mind.Just two nights ago, she had been seated by the pool at the Van Alen mansion, punching on her cell phone and giggling like a little girl, when Camille stormed in.“What’s so funny?” Camille hovered above her, crossing her arms over her chest.Nala raised her eyes slowly, gazing at her bri

  • Love, Lies and Billions   Chapter 56

Liam’s POVThe room smelled of antiseptics and bad news.I sat on the edge of the hospital bed, the thin gown loose against my frame, eyes cast down, and my heart spiraling with each passing second as I waited for the results of my test. This wasn’t what I had planned for today, nor was it where I thought I would be, but here I was, waiting for the results of something I already knew the answer to.The door to the doctor’s office creaked open, and he stepped in. A paper in one hand, a stethoscope hanging from his neck, a lab coat as white as snow, and an expression that couldn’t quite hide itself. He took a seat opposite me, removing his glasses before speaking. “Mr. Liam, the results are in.”I straightened up, looking him in the eye. “And?”Dr. Ken cleared his throat, his eyes darting between me and the paper in his hands. “It’s positive. The tumor has returned. It’s smaller, but this time it’s more severe than the last.”My heart sank the moment he uttered the word positive. I knew

Liam’s POVEver felt like your lies are beginning to close in on you and there’s no escape? Well, that was exactly the position I found myself in.God knows if Aliya had managed to open that text from Monica before I walked in, it would’ve been catastrophic. Now I stared at her furious face, unsure of what to do.“I can’t do that.” I cleared my throat, taking the phone from her hand. She folded her arms, brows furrowed. “Why, Nick? Unless there’s some truth to what I’m saying.”“There’s no truth to what you’re saying, Aliya. There’s nothing going on between Monica and me,” I said, my voice firm.Aliya let out a dry chuckle. “Unbelievable. I can’t believe how much trust I put in you.”I dropped the phone on the bed, walking toward her gently. I grazed her cheek with the back of my hand, staring into her teary eyes—but I saw more than just tears. I saw disappointment.“Believe me, baby. Monica probably just needs a favor,” I explained, but she shook her head, snapping away from my touch

  • Love, Lies and Billions   Chapter 54

Aliya’s POVSo Monica and Nick, huh? Didn’t see that coming.I got into my car and drove home after the long day at the shop, which I was certain I wouldn’t be stepping foot in for a while.Nick had left for his secret adventures with Posh, as usual, and all I could do was nod without complaint. Sometimes it felt like he didn’t trust me enough to let me into his world. I mean, take a look at how I found out my old friend used to be his girlfriend. There was this strange feeling I had when I saw the way they looked at each other. Was it jealousy? Or fear—fear that they hadn’t told me the whole truth about their past.I pulled over and stepped into the house, ready to unwind and melt into the warm blankets waiting on my bed. But my stomach had other plans—I hadn’t eaten anything all day. After a soothing bath, I made my way to the kitchen. Soft jazz drifted through the speakers as I played around with the knives and vegetables.“Might as well make something for Nick, since he always doe

Third Person’s POVNick stood still, eyes fixated on her, but he didn’t flinch—not even for a second.“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked, furrowing his brows.Monica ignored his question and stepped even closer. Her red lingerie sparkled under the chandelier. Rising on her toes, she placed a soft kiss on Nick’s cheek.“I’m in town because I’ve missed you, Nick,” she murmured, her voice low and seductive. “You know we were never supposed to end our relationship—if not for…”Nick suddenly grabbed her arm. “Don’t you dare say it. That’s supposed to stay between us, remember?”Monica chuckled. “Right. What happens in Peru stays in Peru.”He let go of her arm, and she rubbed the spot slowly before locking eyes with him.“I should be the one you’re with, not her. I was there for you through it all, and now that everything’s going great, you never reached out.”Nick ran a hand through his ruffled hair for what felt like the hundredth time that day. He brushed past her to the mini bar
