Trembling, her knees starting to ache from the kneeling, she peers up at him again to see how he runs his hand through his hair, exasperated, and scoffing before he looks down again.

“You really are shameless to be able to cut contact and disappear on me for seven whole years, and now you return, and the first thing you say to me, is not an apology but to ask me for money? Just how defiant are you?”

Mavis frowns, wiping her eyes. Then she stands to her feet, dusting off her knees. “It’s fine if you do not want to help me, it is fine if you do not want to give me the money, but do not ask me for an apology when I am the one that was wronged!” She exclaims mildly.

Lance gazes at her. Her normally cheerful eyes, so bright and full of life, now look like they have been worn out with age, as though she has seen much more than any average human should at the age of twenty-five. Her eyes look haunted and there are bags under her eyes that look as though she’d hurriedly dabbed some concealer on, just so he won’t see them.

He takes one step towards her, reaching out, but she takes two back, looking at his hands warily.

He drops his hand, grunting, “Fine then. If I don’t get an apology or an explanation from you, then there is no point having this conversation.”

Mavis pauses for a second before nodding, twice. “Fine by me. You still are the uncaring jerk you have always been. You’d never know just how much that time with you has cost me. Imagine what it’s like being—“ She stops herself immediately, afraid that she’s said too much.

Lance’s eyes cloud over. “I don’t know what it’s like being what?”

Mavis closes off, the fear climbing back into her eyes as she whips around and grabs her bag off the couch in the room. “It’s nothing. Thank you for seeing me.”

“Wait!” Lance finds himself ordering, the curiosity a little too hard to ignore. He walks around her and comes to a stop in front of her. He takes a step towards her, she takes one backwards, until her back hits the glass table, ending her capability to go any further backwards. But he takes one more step, before leaning into her. “You can’t start a sentence and leave the other person hanging, that’s rude.”

With her blood thumping in her ears seeing how close he is, she swallows deeply, finding her eyes flickering again and again to his lips and how much he had always been a good kisser, managing to sweep her off her damn feet every single time, until that time. He had always been good at evading her need for privacy and even now, that single act of his takes her breath away.

Breath away…

That phrase reminds her of why she’d come to see him, with her heart longing for those lips on any part of her body but her head in complete disagreement, she side steps out of his arm’s cage. “I have to go, I can’t play around with you, and you’re as insufferable as you’ve always been.”

“What if I agree to give you the five million dollars? And more…?”

Mavis stops in her tracks, then slowly, she turns around. “There is a condition, isn’t there?”

With that sexily sly smirk of his, “Of course, it’s pretty simple.”

Nursing one last smidge of hope in the man, she nods. “What is this condition of yours?”

Rubbing his finger on her bare shoulder in small, seductive circles, “Spend one week with me, just me. Same place as before, but this time, I’ll pay you by the day, by the hour, but your five million will be the down payment.”

The offer is tempting as fuck.

This man, plus so much money, enough to do everything she needs it for, is as tempting as getting as a lottery ticket, all paid, to Fiji island…

But—

“You’d be dreaming then, I will never, ever, choose willingly to have anything to do with you. Go after your famous red-heads, I am pretty sure one of them will find the offer more tempting that I do.”

Without any warning, he tilts his head to the back and bursts into laughter. He reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a card, putting it into her bag. “Who knows, you might change your mind. It’s my personal number, give me a call if you ever consider my offer positively.”

Not sparing him another word, she turns on her heel and walks out there, happy that her dignity is still mildly intact at least, because whenever it came to Lance Wesker, she’d never been able to think straight.

She takes a cab home, and comes to a stop in front of a dingy apartment. She looks up at the window of the second floor, sighing before heading inside.

She makes her way up the stairs, opening the door to silence. Frowning, she goes inside, looking around, a look of panic slowly creeping into her face.

“Nate… NATE!” She yells, hoping he’s in there somewhere, possibly just sleeping. She enters into the room and there is no one in there. Suddenly, the closet door bursts open and a boy comes bouncing out, running into her hands with laughter and excitement.

“Nathan.” She whispers, catching him in her hands, pressing her lips into his jet black hair, one of the things he has so in common with his father.

“Mommy,” the boy starts, hugging her legs.

She picks him up with an easy smile, pressing more kisses across his body as he laughs in her hands especially when she gets to his ticklish part where he doubles over in laughter trying in vain to fight off her hands but she stops herself after some seconds, letting him finish laughing before she calms down.

“Why are you alone here?”

“Nancy left an hour ago, said she had to attend to something urgent.”

“Okay, what would my little prince love for dinner? Hm? Mommy will make you whatever you want to eat…”

“Hm… can I have cake for dinner?”

Mavis bursts into laughter, pulling his cheeks playfully. “The doctor said you should avoid sweet things for now, should we have some chicken instead? We can go buy it together?”

He nods, jiggling excitedly. “Yes yes. I’ll eat chicken.”

“Let Mommy go get freshened up then, get busy with some SpongeBob, okay?”

“I want to do my homework instead.”

Mavis smiles, her heart full of love for this sweet little boy. “Go ahead then, we’ll look through it after having dinner, okay?”

As she turned to go, “Mommy,”

“Yes love?”

“In school today, our teacher asked us to bring a picture of our Daddy and Mommy on a trip. Will Daddy come and take a picture with us so I can submit it?”

Mavis stops in her tracks, inhaling deeply.

His father…

His father does not even know of his existence.

Its night time and it has been a very long day, a very long on.Mavis sits at the edge of Nathan’s bed with a storybook open across her lap, her voice quieter now than it had been several pages ago. "The red bird looks up at the green bird before laughing, BWAHAHAHAHA..."Nathan had fought sleep stubbornly at first when she'd started, still riding the excitement of the massive house, the fish wall that he spoke about most of the day, the endless hallways and the major fact that Lance had let him eat dessert before dinner without a single complaint, to her indignation of course. But eventually, exhaustion wins there with him on the bed. "Mum, goodnight.""Goodnight sweetheart. I'll see you tomorrow."Mavis lowers the book slightly, glancing down at him until he falls right asleep. One arm flung over the blanket dramatically, his lips slightly parted, curls messy against the pillow after all his tossing around.A softness crosses her face immediately as she pulls the blanket over him

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   A Little Hope, A Little Lie.

"Let's break up, Langdon."Tiara keeps the phone pressed against her ear after saying the words, her gaze fixed on the city beyond the large window of her apartment. The afternoon sun stretches lazily across the buildings outside, bright and golden in a way that feels almost insulting compared to the heaviness sitting in her chest. She's said it, she has actually said the words, she almost breathes in relief but she holds it in, unsure of what's coming next.On the other end of the line, Langdon says absolutely nothing, not immediately, not even a loud breath crosses through the receiver into her ears. The utter silence drags on long enough for her grip on the phone to tighten slightly. For one ridiculous second, she wonders if the call dropped and peeks at the phone's screen to see that it's still connected, it's just... silent.“Langdon?” she asks flatly. “Are you still there?”There is another mini-long pause, then suddenly, he laughs, maybe more like a snicker even. Not warmly, a

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   In the Pursuit of Another Woman

By the time Langdon finally returns home, the sun is already hanging high in the afternoon sky, the day is as hot as he'd felt when he stormed out this morning. The drive back had felt much longer than the one to Lance’s estate, mostly because his mind had not stopped moving once the entire time. Even now, as he steps into the quiet apartment and shuts the door behind him, it does not feel like he has actually returned home mentally. His gaze drifts slowly around the living room. The throw blanket Tiara had wrapped around herself earlier that morning is still folded over the couch exactly the same way. Her mug still sits on the coffee table, though the tea inside is definitely cold by now. One of her slippers rests carelessly near the edge of the rug while the other is nowhere in sight. There's the most obvious pointer that she'd left shortly after he did... Everything looks untouched.Except her, or the absence of her.Langdon loosens his tie with a tired exhale before tossing his ke

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Not Needed, At All.

Lance does not move from where he stands, but his presence alone shifts the entire atmosphere of the hallway. He looks composed on the surface, dressed as though he had just stepped out of a boardroom rather than into whatever this is, but there is obviously something as thick as dislike beneath the way he looks at Langdon, and it's not lost on Mavis. His gaze lingers briefly on Mavis before settling fully on Langdon again. “You’re in my house, what an unpleasant surprise."Mavis pauses, looking between the two of them, unsure of what to make of the situation."What's..." She starts but lets her voice die out.Langdon lets out a quiet breath through his nose, straightening his shoulders as he turns to face him fully. There is no hesitation in him, no attempt to soften the situation, not after the phone call, not after everything that has already been said between them.“And you’re acting like you didn’t drag her here without her will, I can tell,” he replies, his voice steady but edg

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Hand and Eyes on the Forearm

Langdon does not slow down throughout the drive, his morning meeting very well forgotten. The distance between the city and Lance’s estate stretches long and very familiar, but it has been years since he last made this journey, and nothing about the whole journey feels wholesome, as though every mile is dragging something old and unresolved back to the surface whether he wants to think of it or not.By the time the gates come into view, his jaw is tight enough to ache. The guards step forward immediately, trained and alert, already assessing him before he even fully rolls down the window.“State your business, sir.”Langdon doesn’t bother with unnecessary pleasantries. “I’m Lance’s brother.”There is a brief pause, a flicker of recognition passing between them, followed by a subtle shift in posture that tells him everything he needs to know. The gates begin to open without further delay."Welcome sir, please come in."As he goes in, looking around, he registers that some things, it se

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Emotional Robbery

What the start of a day in one is the worsened version of a ruined day in another. While Mavis is a little calmed knowing that there's someone standing in the gap for her out there, in here...The curtains are drawn halfway, letting in just enough light to soften the room without fully waking it. The city outside hums faintly in the distance, cars already moving, people already late for something.Langdon adjusts the cuff of his shirt as he steps out of the bedroom, already dressed in preparation for the day. His tie hangs loose around his neck, not yet tightened, his watch sitting perfectly against his wrist. He moves with that same controlled precision he carries everywhere, every action deliberate, every second accounted for. He also has a business to run and it's not going to move without him, not on an important like this one.In the living room, Tiara is curled into the couch, one leg tucked beneath her, a light throw draped lazily over her lap. A mug of cold, forgotten tea sit

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Father, Billionaire.

Mavis helps Nathan into bed with the motherly patience she has come to perfect over the years, that she'd learnt from staying up long nights and early mornings to take care of her child, and learning exactly how much gentleness a child needs when he is tired but trying very hard not to show it, exc

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Firm Resolve

Lance does not remember standing up from his kneeling position as though his memory for those few seconds had been totally reflexive, nothing from his thoughts. One moment he is on one knee, the next he is on his feet, the flowers slipping from his hands and hitting the concrete with a soft, pathet

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   Cross Feelings

The word hangs between them like something that transmits electric shock, because really, they literally both shiver as soon as the word hits.Mommy...Mavis feels it strike first in her chest, then ripple outward, freezing her limbs, stealing the air from her lungs. Her body reacts before her mind

  • Love Me, Loathe Me.   The Truth, The Lie and The Endgame.

Dinner ends up stretching on for longer than Mavis expects, not because the food is heavy, that's not it at all, but because the conversation is light between herself and Nathan.Who'd have thought a week of separation would cause so much to talk about? Coupled with his surgery too? That she's tryi
