Chapter 10: Elie Cheated On Ivor, Right?

But I couldn’t stop it.

I realized that as soon as everything was out of my control. Over the next few days, I took the time to make Ivor’s mistress angry at his heartlessness.

In fact, every week, I always had to give gifts to his mistresses in the name of Ivor. But I decided to stop it because I was jealous that they were his mistresses, that Ivor canoodled them, which I had never achieved.

Ivor didn’t notice this, because he was too busy with his work and he trusted me.

I had used to do everything for the sake of his trust, and now I’m afraid of losing it.

But I was satisfied.

Fear and joy tormented me at the same time.

I tried to hide my jealousy and become professional so that Ivor would not doubt me and our relationship was improved.

And it worked.

Ivor let me go with him to the villa where Elie was living instead of Romeo.

Once, when I went to the villa with Ivor, I overheard Elie’s phone conversation.

“You know, things will get better, my love. I’m looking forward to coming back to you.”

I hid behind the curtain, trying not to make a sound. I could confirm that this was Ellie’s voice, feeling more excited than embarrassed about eavesdropping. Because maybe I found Ellie’s secret. A secret was big enough to keep Ivor away from Ellie.

So many years later, when I remember what I once felt, I laugh shamefully.

I took out my phone and recorded the conversation.

“I really miss you, I don’t want to live in this empty villa anymore, everyone at this villa treats me like a lowly girl, and he treats me like a toy, like a stupid stunt,” Ellie said chokingly. “I’ll definitely come back to you soon. Love you too.”

Ellie hung up, wiped her tears, walked toward the living room where Ivor was, and startled when she saw me.

“Ms. Assistant, why are you here?”

“Miss Jenner, what a surprise, why are you here?”

The two voices echoed at the same time, and I watched Ellie’s expression and realized she was in shock. I smiled at her for finding her weakness.

“I just watered the flowers, and I’m going to the living room to see Ivor,” Elie replied.

I smiled, saying, “I’m going to the kitchen to prepare tea for my boss. Surprised that the butler told me you were on your room.”

I used a knife to make a slit in her defense, letting her quickly reveal her lies. I watched Elie carefully and realized that she was evaluating my attitude.

I was glad what she was doing was proving to me she was lying.

She said, “Oh, I’ve been up to the bedroom since noon and down to the garden since three o’clock in the afternoon, maybe the butler was too busy to be mistaken.”

I burst into laughter at Elie’s gaping lie. Because the butler told me that Elie was just in the room thirty minutes ago. Before she went into the bedroom, she spent all noon reading books in the garden, allowing no one to bother her.

Perhaps she did not know that the butler was always monitoring her actions skillfully.

Haste was the most short-sighted reason for failure. My jealousy and the joy of taking down my opponent prevented me from rethinking it soberly.

I decided to expose Elie.

I smirked, saying, “Say it again.”

“What?” Elie was surprised, answering angrily.

I repeat, “Repeat what you just said.”

My method was a trick to find out if someone was lying. When people lied, what they said were all fleeting thoughts they came up with so quickly so they could hardly remember everything they said.

I looked at Elie with a winner’s eye. Maybe Elie realized it was all just a trap, so she looked at me with a wary eye.

“I don’t need to do that,” Elie said.

“Why?” I frowned, asking again.

“I have no reason to explain that to you, and you have no right to ask me to do anything,” Elie insisted.

“So does that mean you who excuses yourself, accuses yourself?” I said. “You don’t want Ivor to doubt you, do you? Remember, I’m his assistant and you’re just his mistress.”

Elie laughed and said, “Oh, yes, but if he knew that you had a crush on him, how would he react?”

Elie’s question beat me.

Elie seemed pleased with my reaction, she left shortly after.

I could not accept the fact that I had given up on her. Immediately, I clenched Elie’s hand.

“What are you doing?” Elie was startled, angry, shouting.

“What was the content of your telephone conversation, Miss Jenner?” I asked.

“Please give me a reason to answer you. Why should I listen to an assistant like you, remember you’ve only gained Ivor’s trust in a few days,” Elie said.

“How do you know that?” I was stunned, feeling like someone had just exposed one of my embarrassing mistakes.

I believed Elie could not get that information because I had only been in contact with her for a short time.

Why?

“Because Ivor told me, you fool,” Elie said sarcastically.

I felt like things were getting dangerous.

My love of Ivor as a bomb could explode at any moment. If Ivor found out I was loving him, he would fire me.

I was bewildered, but a hope flashed through my mind. If he knew that, why didn’t he fire me?

“Of course not,” Elie denied all my hopes.

It was only then that I realized that I had unintentionally revealed my entire state of mind.

“I guessed it while listening to him tell the story. Lia, take your hand off my hand, you’re hurting me.”

“What?” I wondered, unconsciously letting go of Elie’s poor hand. Her arm was red because I held it tight for too long.

“Shit,” Elie whispered.

I felt insecure, so I took an action immediately because I was worried Elie would tell Ivor that I loved him.

“You don’t even have to tell me the contents of the conversation, because I recorded it,” I said, taking out the phone. “You know what? I just need to give it to Ivor, everything will be over, he’ll hate you because you cheated on him.”

“What the hell are you talking about,” Elie shouted. I believed the phone panicked her.

“You know what you should do then, don’t you?” I said arrogantly. I believed Elie was scared because she cheated on Ivor, she was having an affair. She was certainly afraid that things would get worse when Ivor found out everything that had happened.

“What happened?”

Ivor’s familiar voice pulled me away from thoughts.

His appearance amazed me.

“I,” I wanted to explain to Ivor instinctively, but I couldn’t think of a logical story for the situation between me and Elie.

Ivor looked at Elie, I looked at him.

Ivor was petty when he saw the red mark on Elie’s arm.

“Did something happen?” Ivor asked Elie.

“Nothing,” Elie said, and looked at me visibly.
