Chapter 4: Fall sick

It had been a few days since that day, and Agnes assumed that Ryan seemed to recognize her, so he said so. He did not rush to expose her soon because he wanted to secretly take revenge. But maybe she was thinking too much. After the warning, Ryan paid no attention to her. Outside of work, there was no communication between her and him. Not even greetings. Rather, when Agnes intentionally greeted Ryan, he ignored her. He didn't respect her even once. Agnes feels that way is also lucky, but it is not good to last. Louis always inquires about her situation. His urges kept Agnes under pressure. Every day she finds a way to approach Ryan. For example, today, although everyone in the secretariat left early, she still had to pretend to stay overtime. Agnes was standing in the staff break room making coffee. A cup of hot coffee is less sweet for Ryan.

Prrr… Prrr

The super-fast boiling water bottle squealed. Agnes poured herself a cup of coffee. Finished, she took the hot cup of coffee and walked toward the CEO's office. As he passed a glass door, Agnes stopped. She looked at her reflection in the glass and smiled to herself. Her fair skin with her hair pulled up in a bun made her look so young. Blue eyes blinked a few times. Agnes put on an acting mask

Coc! Coc! Coc! A rhythmic knock on the door resounded

"Come in."

Agnes pushed the door open. She looked at the man who was bowing his head to the pile of papers and sighed in his heart. I don't know if there is any progress today.

"I made you a cup of coffee."

Agnes went to the desk. She gave a sweet smile and spoke up. Ryan was holding a pen to sign his name, he heard her voice and stopped. He looked up at the person in front of him. The amber eyes stared at the coffee cup in Agnes's hand for a few seconds. She was waiting for a response from him.

"You haven't come back yet?" Ryan raised an eyebrow. Glancing at the clock, it was nine o'clock in the evening.

“I have some work to do today.”

Agnes said seriously. Her hand holding the coffee cup was a little tired. In her mind, she wondered why this man didn't want to take it. Agnes desperately wanted to put down her hot cup of coffee, but seeing the messy papers covering her desk made her stop thinking. If she accidentally spills coffee on his papers, he will be very upset and angry. That didn't help her plan at all.

"Very hardworking. You just put it down on the table and you can go out.”

Agnes knew Ryan was chasing her away. His face made it clear. He leaned back in his chair, legs crossed, one hand twirling an expensive fountain pen. The pose looks arrogant and aloof. Agnes set the coffee cup down on a rare empty spot on the desk. She didn't want to just end the conversation with him. She looked at him and smiled.

“You have always had such a habit. Let me clean up for you.”

Agnes didn't wait for a response from Ryan, she reached out and rearranged the papers. After a few days of working together, she realized that this man's character was not very good. Or rather, it was only for her that he was like that. He is cold and unpleasant, always demanding at work. Agnes only needed to make a small mistake and was warned by him. She didn't know if this was due to his serious way of working or if it was from his hatred of her. Although she was upset by that attitude, she still had to pretend it was nothing.

As Agnes was engrossed in gathering papers with her head bowed, her arm was suddenly grabbed. That made her heart skip a beat. She looked at the person in front of her holding her arm, confused, and asked:

"Is something wrong?"

Ryan didn't know when he stooped across the table and approached Agnes. Now the gap between the two has narrowed quite a bit. His masculine breath surrounded her. His eyes narrowed, it was so deep it made her even more bewildered. The two of them looked at each other in silence. Every second that passed was overwhelming for Agnes. After a while, Ryan expressed disgust and said:

"Thanks, but I don't like someone touching my stuff without my permission."

“I-I'm sorry. I just wanted to help you…” Agnes spoke with a slight stutter. Okay, she admits she is a coward. Just being in Ryan's presence was enough to make her nervous. Not to mention now she and he are in skin-to-skin contact like this. From him, there was indescribable brutality.

"Get out."

Ryan pursed his lips at Agnes' embarrassment. He let go of her arm and sat back in his chair. He didn't even look at her anymore. He bowed his head and continued his work. Agnes was motionless for a moment, then hurriedly left. She began to feel anger at this man's obnoxious arrogance. She didn't expect him to be so blunt. After Agnes left, only Ryan remained in the large room. He kept his sitting position, looking up at the door. Then he turned his gaze to the hot cup of coffee. Suddenly Ryan stood up and picked up the cup of coffee. He went to a nearby potted plant and slowly poured it down. Coffee drops mixed with sandy soil. Looking at the bottom of the coffee cup, Ryan smirked in confusion.

Two days later, Agnes went with Ryan to another company to sign a contract. This was her first trip with him since she started working. Ryan took the initiative to go to that company because he wanted to survey the situation. Agnes was in the co-drivers seat. Next to her was a driver named James. Once seated, James started the car and drove away. Agnes peeked inside the car she was sitting in.

Oh my god, this is the Rolls Royce Cullinan. Although it is not a rare item in the supercar world, its value is extremely expensive. Almost 2 million dollars for a car. From the seats to the engine, everything is perfect and smooth. If she hadn't become Ryan's secretary, Agnes wouldn't have been able to try sitting in this car in her life.

Speaking of Ryan, Agnes looked at him through the rearview mirror. Today he wears an elegant brown suit. Each seam hugs the strong body. Tight muscles are evident with every movement. Legs crossed, arms crossed in front of the chest. The sitting posture of the most powerful person in New York. But Ryan's face doesn't look very good today. Slightly pale. He seems to be sleep deprived. From the time she was at the company, Agnes had realized this. Now he was leaning his head back and closing his eyes. The jawline is exposed, it exudes masculinity. A few strands of hair fell on his forehead.

This image… why does Agnes find it so seductive? She swallowed silently to calm the small fire inside her. Although his health was not good, Ryan's aura beat them all. Agnes watched for a moment, then tried to avert her eyes.

Just then, Ryan opened his eyes. His amber eyes appeared red and bloodshot, indicating his fatigue. The two's eyes met. Agnes laughed and asked:

"Aren't you well?"

Ryan looked at her sharply. His lips were pursed and he had no intention of answering Agnes. The space inside the car fell into silence. James sitting next to still serious driving. His eyes weren't darting sideways or curious about anything. The situation now made Agnes feel awkward.

Then Ryan closed his eyes. He never gave her a single answer. Agnes widened her eyes in shock at his obnoxious attitude. She had to restrain herself from cursing him.

Ryan Gonzalez, New York City's jewel man? Agnes thinks it's more appropriate to call him the most overbearing man in New York City.
