Tomorrow is the ceremony, and I still have nothing.

Three days of careful searching. Three days of playing the obedient mate while sneaking through archives, questioning servants, examining Pete's study when he's occupied. Three days, and I've found exactly zero evidence of demon rituals or dark magic.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my mother's letter was about something else entirely. Maybe Pete is just an ordinary wolf planning an ordinary ceremony, and I'm seeing shadows where none exist.

But I don't believe that. Can't believe that.

The blood moon hangs full and crimson outside my window, its light painting my room in shades of warning. Tomorrow at sunset, during the winter solstice, I'll stand before the pack at the old shrine and let Pete mark me.

Unless I find proof tonight.

I wait until the pack house grows quiet, until I can hear steady breathing from the guards outside my door. My vampire hearing has become sharper over the past days, adapting to my hybrid nature. I can distinguish

I don't stop running until my lungs burn and my legs scream for mercy. The forest blurs around me, trees becoming shadows as my hybrid speed carries me deeper into the wild lands. Behind me, I hear pursuit fading. Pete's voice grows distant, his threats swallowed by the thickness of the woods. The boundary between Fang territory and the lawless expanse passed miles ago.I'm in rogue territory now. Dangerous for any lone wolf, but my only chance at survival.Dawn breaks through the canopy, painting the forest floor in shades of gold and red. I've been running for hours. My body should be exhausted, but adrenaline and terror keep me moving. Every time I think of stopping, I remember Derek's screams, remember the twelve children in cages, remember my unborn babies Pete plans to murder.I keep running. Finally, when the sun is fully risen and I'm certain no one is following anymore, I collapse against a massive oak tree. My breath comes in ragged gasps. My clothes are torn from branches a

I make it maybe half a mile into the forest before they cut me off.Six elite guards materialize from the shadows, forming a circle around me. These aren't ordinary pack warriors. They're Dante's personal enforcers, the strongest fighters in Fang territory. Their eyes glow with predatory hunger, and I smell their bloodlust mixing with the night air."Stand down, Lady Roselyn." The captain, a massive wolf named Gareth, steps forward. "The ceremony is tomorrow. You can't run from your destiny.""My destiny?" I laugh, and the sound is wild, unhinged. "You mean my murder? Pete's planning to bleed me dry on that altar, and you're helping him."Gareth's expression doesn't change. "We serve the Alpha. Whatever he commands, we obey.""The Alpha is possessed by a demon!" My voice cracks. "You're not serving Dante. You're serving something that's been wearing his skin for twenty years.""Lies." Another guard moves closer. "You're hysterical. The ceremony preparations have overwhelmed you."They

The demon's voice continues, and every word is a nail in my coffin."The vessel has served us well, hasn't he?" The creature's tone holds dark satisfaction. "Your father never suspected when I slipped into his skin twenty years ago. He thinks every decision, every cruelty, every calculated move is his own. But it's been me all along, wearing the Alpha like a suit."My hands fly to my mouth, stifling a gasp. Dante. Alpha Dante has been possessed for twenty years. The man who stripped me of my status, who turned the pack against me, who has ruled Fang territory with calculated cruelty—he's been a demon this entire time."He suspects nothing, Master," Pete confirms. "The possession was seamless. Even I can barely tell where my father ends and you begin.""That's because there is no father anymore." The demon laughs. "I consumed what was left of his soul years ago. Now there's only me, and tomorrow, there will be so many more of us.""The gate will hold?" Pete asks. "Once opened, the demo

I stare at my mother's letter until the words blur together.Demon summoning. Vessel. Winter solstice. My parents died trying to stop this exact ceremony, and now I'm walking straight into it wearing a white dress and a smile."Lady Roselyn?" Derek's voice pulls me back. "Are you alright?""No." The word comes out steady despite the terror flooding through me. "I'm not alright. My parents discovered something about demon rituals at the old shrine, and now Pete insists on holding the ceremony there. That's not a coincidence."Derek struggles to his feet, wincing. "We need to get you out of here. Tonight. Before Pete realizes you know.""I can't just run." My mind races through impossible options. "The children are still sick. The pack believes the ceremony will save them. If I disappear, they'll hunt me down and drag me back.""Better hunted than whatever Pete is planning." Derek grabs my shoulders, his grip desperate. "My lady, your mother was investigating demon summoning. If Pete is

The wedding gown hangs in my room like a ghost, white silk gleaming in the afternoon light.Three days. Seventy-two hours until I stand before the pack and let Pete mark me forever. The countdown echoes in my mind with every heartbeat, relentless as a funeral drum.I can't eat. Every meal turns to ash in my mouth, my stomach rejecting food like my body knows something my mind refuses to accept. The servants whisper about how thin I've gotten, how the gown needs constant alterations to fit my shrinking frame.I can't sleep either. Every time I close my eyes, I see fragments that don't connect. My parents' bodies, positioned too carefully. Pete's knowing smile. The old shrine waiting in the forest. Stark's face the last time I saw him, broken and beautiful under the blood moon."You look terrible," Cicilia whispers in my mind. She's stronger now, recovered from the wolfsbane, but cautious. Ever since my vampire nature awakened, she's been different. Wary."I feel terrible," I whisper ba
