Liam's face contorted in anger, but Ava ignored, lifting her hand to feed him. Liam grasped her wrist tightly and twisted it, causing the spoon to fall off.
Ava winced in pain “Hey! That hurts!” Liam's grip tightened, his voice in a low growl, he said “I told you, I'm not hungry”
Liam left Ava's wrist and rode himself back to the window. Ava stared at the red marks on her wrist and sighed quietly “A tough one huh,”
Ava ate the meal herself while shrugging with the thought ‘You can't stay stubborn forever Mr Liam, sooner or later, your stomach will grumble’
After eating, Ava stood up. “Mr Liam,” she called out and got no response. She continued “If you're feeling sleepy, I can help you lie down”
Liam said nothing.
Ava sighed deeply, even though he looked like he was putting up a fight because he was violent; in reality, he was just frustrated. This time, Ava didn't force him, she left in search of James.
James explained that he was the one who usually helped Liam lie on the bed and Liam wanted no other.
The next day, Ava arrived, this time with her belongings since she would be staying over. Due to the fact Liam had slept hungry, she made a simple breakfast.
“You again?” Liam asked in irritation after hearing the door open. “What are you doing here?” He narrowed his eyes.
“Of all of them, she's the prettiest I've seen,” said Kain, leaning against the entrance.
Liam's frown deepened “If you have nothing to say, you can get the fuck out”
“That isn't a way to treat your baby brother, Liam.” A sly grin crept up Kain’s lips as he drew closer to Liam. His voice airy, he whispered in Liam's ear “Oh brother, you don't know how much it amuses me to see you like this”
Liam gritted, seething with anger. He opened his mouth to speak but Kain cut in, heading for the door “Don't be an ass to Ava cause you know whom she'll run to when you become too mean”
With that, Kain left. His cunning aura and deceitful voice made Liam boil with anger.
Ava stepped in with a tray in hand and a bright smile. “I made eggs and bacon, sunnyside up and sizzled to perfection!” She announced, oblivious to Liam's angry mood.
Coming closer, her brows furrowed “You didn't eat at all yesterday, I'm afraid I might have to force you to have this”
“Get out” Liam mumbled under his breath.
Ava arched her brow in puzzlement. “What do you mean by-”
“I SAID GET OUT!!” Liam roared, angrily hitting the tray out of her hands. Ava flinched and watched with wide eyes how the meal fell to the floor.
With vexed eyes, Ava glared at him. What had she done now? “Are you angry because of what I said yesterday? I'm sorry”
Ava's sudden apology shocked Liam. In that instant, he felt his anger dissipate completely.
Since he said nothing, Ava sighed and cleaned the floor before leaving. Candidly, Liam felt terrible and he couldn't understand why.
Outside the room, Ava bumped into Kain but he caught her before she could stumble. Ava gasped “Second son!”
“Are you okay?” Kain asked in a gentle voice, his creased brows showing worry. He was still holding up Ava's wrist which she had bandaged.
Ava quickly retrieved her hand and shook her head “It's nothing, I'm fine”
“I'm sure my brother is giving you trouble, he's like that. In case he's becoming too rough, you can count on me to calm him” said Kain with a small smile.
Ava stared at him; he was completely different from Liam, even though they were brothers. Liam had a dangerous aura and a violent nature. Meanwhile, in contrast, Kain speaks kindly and has a friendly demeanor.
Ava smiled; it's good to know that other than James, someone else is warm-hearted. “Thank you, second son, but it's my job as a PCA, so I won't be coming to you anytime soon. I'll excuse myself” Ava turned to leave.
“Ava” Kain called out suddenly causing her to halt. When she looked back, he said “Please, call me Kain”
“I wouldn't dare” Ava replied almost immediately and left.
Kain frowned. She calls Liam by his name, so why is he an exception?
In deep thought, he wandered past his mother, Thelma's room. He stopped once he heard Evie's voice.
“I have a bad feeling about that Ava girl” Evie whined. Thelma, sitting in her vanity, nodded in agreement. “Same, there's just something about her. I can feel she's different”
Evie hissed “She might give us trouble. I tried to tell Kain but he wouldn't listen”
“Kain has his ways; we have ours,” said Thelma. “We just have to show Ava her place and make sure she only revolves around that place”
After what seemed like hours of waiting, Ava decided to exit her room to Liam's. She assumed he must've calmed down by now.She opened the door and to her surprise, he was lying on the bed with his face up. Ava drew closer; his eyes were open, but she couldn't tell if he was awake or not.Ava's eyes wandered around his face, his defined jawline, the dark circles underneath his eyes, his bedhead hair, and thin lips —He truly was good-looking—Unknowingly, Ava leaned in, her face minutes away from his. Liam could feel her subtle breaths on his face and get calm stare but he remained quiet and still. In that moment, something happened. There was a sudden flash in Liam's eyes. His heart raced as the image quickly ran through his eyes. For a moment there, he could see!It was in an instant but he felt like he saw something magical. Maybe it was a dream? The image played over and over causing his heart to beat in a scattered rhythm. Her face was just above his, her loose silver hair cascadi
“The director would like to see you, Dr. Patel,” the small woman announced, dressed in a formal nurse outfit, and left.Ava groaned, what did he want now? After knocking, she was invited in. Was it a mistake? ‘what is the meaning of this?’ She asked herself. On the plate was a combination of different spoiled food; the vegetables on it were soggy, and the fish had maggots coming in and out of it. Maybe it's a mistake; maybe they meant to throw it away and not serve it to their eldest son, or maybe they accidentally put this in a well-covered plate accompanied by fancy cutleries and a silver tray. Ava blinked; the food already had an odor. This can't even be a leftover meal; more like they picked it out of the trash. It was nothing compared to the sumptuous meal served on the table. Ava gulped, she was confused. She looked at Thelma who had gone back to eating. Sensing her stare, Thelma looked up and locked eyes with Ava. “Why are you still here?
