Finn was already leaving, and Liam was in his wheelchair. Thelma's anxious gaze darted from Liam to Finn.

Finn smiled “I was just about to leave”

“How is his health? Any improvement?” Thelma asked in a hurry. Ava joined in, she still didn't understand why Thelma and Evie looked worried. If they hated Liam, why were they pretending to care then?

Finn's smile faltered. “I'm afraid not, Madam Thelma. The pain around his eyes has increased abnormally and decreased the chances of him ever seeing again. I'll prescribe new drugs for him, so don't worry too much.” Finn assured.

Though Thelma was able to hide the relief she felt, Ava saw it all on Evie's face. Hearing that Liam's condition worsened, instead of being worried, Evie was sighing in relief.

How odd….it made Ava wonder, who exactly was the blonde woman?

Thelma nodded “Thank you, Dr Louis. Allow me to see you out,” said Thelma, and she left with Finn and Evie.

Ava walked in and closed the door behind her. She sat on Liam's bed.

“What? I completely forgot about that” Ava chuckled dryly. Albert hummed low, though he didn't believe a word she said. Who would forget being promised such a large amount? He told her politely “Thanks to you, Liam's surgery this afternoon was successful….” On the second floor landing, Thelma and Evie stood side by side, peering down through the railings at the scene below.“What do you think they’re talking about?” Evie asked, her voice laced with curiosity—They couldn't make out what they were saying. “I don't know” Thelma replied, her eyes narrowed. Her tone was stiff, irritated, as if the very sight of them at the table soured her mood. They both watched as the maids moved in silently to take out the plates and silver. Albert stood up from his seat, nodded to Liam, and then left the scene. It was just Ava and Liam alone together. Something about it made Evie's blood hitch. The silence between them was unnerving. Why did Albert have to leave? Now, they were drowning in an awkw

Kain blinked twice. Not that marrying Evie had slipped from his mind, he just seldom put it into thought. Work had been hectic lately, with gathering up stocks and profits while handling investments. The thought of setting up the wedding soon gave him an idea. He nodded in response after a short while. “We haven't agreed on a date yet, but everything is coming up just fine” The car pulled over once they had gotten to Ava's place. “We're here,” Kain chimed as the engine hummed to a stop. “Thank you so much” Ava smiled. “I don't want to trouble you for later. I'll ask James to bring me back around evening time” He nodded at her, his eyes studying her. He instantly wished he knew what was going on in her head. It was almost impossible to read through her constant smiles. He responded “Sure,” and kicked start the engine. Ava waved him off and went in to meet Rose. She found her mother standing near the window where she was busy peeking through. She was still reeling from last time’s

Ava stepped out of the house, her suitcase rolling quietly behind her. She never planned on leaving like this. It felt sudden even though she had served her time. The month was over. In truth, she wasn't wrong for going, but the abruptness made it sting. She simply didn't want to see his face for now and that hurt more. Liam was well enough. He didn’t need a caretaker anymore. When she reached the gates, Kain’s car pulled up. He stepped out just as she was about to pass, and their eyes locked. The look on Ava's face was unlike anything he had ever seen. She often had a sweet, happy expression, but right now, her eyes were clouded with sadness. His heart hitched. He had thought his plan to he flawless. Killing two birds with one stone. Not only would Ava's discovery and questioning lead to exposing the truth to him, but he would get to see Liam condemn himself in Ava's eyes by hiding the truth from her. But, what he hadn't anticipated was how Ava would have felt. He walked towar

Ava walked into the tea room, her steps quiet but steady. The air smelled faintly of roses from the garden outside the large window panes. Thelma was seated comfortably gazing through the window at the yard as though she had not a care in the world. Her posture was relaxed, her hands folded neatly in her lap. For once, she allowed herself to breathe. After all, Kain had told her not to meddle in the household matters for now. And if Kain said not to act, she would simply sit still and let time run its course.“Madam Thelma,” Ava called softly. She blinked, pulling herself from her thoughts. She turned, her eyes flickering with curiosity before she gestured for Ava to join her.“Ava,” she said, her tone warm but laced with surprise. “What are you doing here?”Ava lowered herself into the seat opposite, and instantly, the memory of her first day in the mansion came rushing back. Thelma had been the first familiar face she encountered, the first voice that welcomed her warmly. But the

For the first time since she had stepped into the Blackwood mansion, Ava's heart felt heavy as she climbed those steps. Her brows were furrowed, her eyes staring blankly. A throb pressed against her chest, fingers trembling, dread curling in her veins. Liam wouldn't. She kept muttering to herself over and over again, almost like a prayer. Liam wouldn't betray me like this. As much as she wanted to ignore her heart, she couldn't. She wanted to shut the thought out, but it kept clouding her. The corner of her eyes crinkled. All she ever did since coming here was for his sake. Why would he pay her with evil? Maybe there was a reason. Maybe there was something she didn’t yet understand.Whatever it was, she was going to find out. While walking up the stairs, Evie was coming down. She had returned from her ‘errand’ earlier on. The moment she saw Ava, a frown settled on her face. But as she got closer to her, her frown turned to confusion. Ava's eyes were wet, her jaw clenched. Her ste

“Hello? Finn, is there a problem?” Albert asked. He was shocked to have received the call. He was currently on his way to Presidio Bay General Hospital. After what Liam told him, he had to move fast. The sooner he secured Ava's job, the better. “Ava and I have great news” Finn grinned from ear to ear. Ava, beside him, couldn't contain her excitement either. She wondered if Albert was still with Liam. Albert blinked twice “Ava? What is she doing there?” “I'm sorry but this can't be discussed on a phone call. You have to get over here as soon as possible” said Finn, deliberately building suspense. “Is this about Liam's condition?” Albert asked. Instead of a straightforward answer, Finn said “You will be thrilled to know of our recent discovery” Albert's lips parted, but before he could say a word, the call was cut. He stared at the blank phone's screen. He had a feeling the ‘good news’ had something to do with Liam. Everything else can wait. He beckoned to the driver to change cou
