David sat in the sterile hospital corridor, his fingers tapping the armrest of the chair as he waited for the doctor to clean and suture Allison's wounds.

His mind was a whirlwind of confusion, and despite the quiet surroundings, the noise inside his head was deafening.

He didn't understand why Emma hated Allison so much. Emma had always been close to Allison; So why was she suddenly so agitated and angry around Allison ever since she came back?

It was hard for him to imagine that the woman he had known, who had always been kind and considerate, could intentionally hurt anyone, let alone her own sister.

The more David thought about it, the more a sinking feeling gnawed at him. If the problem wasn't Emma; Was it possible that Allison had intentionally hurt herself to provoke a rift between him and Emma?

Just then the door opened and his gaze landed on Allison. Her face was pale from pain, beads of sweat clinging to her forehead, and her lips were bitten, swollen, and trembling. He

"Excellent work, Dr. Morgan," one of the residents said, his tone filled with admiration. Emma didn’t respond immediately. Her focus remained on the patient until she was satisfied with the stability of the vitals. Finally, she stepped back and nodded. “Close him up and monitor his recovery closely. The next 24 hours are critical.” As she stripped off her gloves and gown, the head nurse approached her. “Dr. Morgan, you never cease to amaze us. That was a high-risk procedure, and you handled it like it was routine.” Emma offered a small smile, though her mind was already on her next task. “It’s what we’re trained to do. Let’s hope the patient agrees with us in recovery.” She exited the OR and headed to her office. The walls were lined with certificates, awards, and framed articles praising her groundbreaking wor

He was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition,” David said, his voice trembling as he leaned forward. “No one else will touch the case. They all say it’s too risky, but I can’t accept that. Henry deserves a chance…he's my only son.” Prof. Charles sighed, his aged face filled with sympathy. “Mr. Lawson, I understand your plight. But I’m retired. I haven’t held a scalpel in years, let alone kept up with the advancements in modern cardiac surgery. It would be a disservice to your son for me to attempt this.” "But you’re Charles Callum," David pressed, sounding desperate. "You’re a legend in cardiac surgery. If anyone can do this, it’s you.”Prof. Charles shook his head, a bittersweet smile crossing his lips. “I can’t take that risk, not with a life as de

He wasn’t coughing constantly like before, and his energy was slowly coming back. He had even resumed walking short distances without help. What pleased Allison even more was that there still had been no mention of Emma this or Emma that in the past few weeks. It was almost as if Emma had vanished from their lives. David had also started visiting her and Henry more often. He spent time with them and always dropped off enough money—more than enough, in fact. Their bills were covered, her spa appointments paid for, and there was even extra to shop and spoil herself a little.Allison smiled to herself and closed her eyes. The weather was perfect, and the peace around her fel

Dr. Allen adjusted his glasses as he removed the stethoscope from David’s chest. A small, satisfied smile curled his lips as he read the vitals on the monitor beside the bed.“Well, I must say,” he began, scribbling something on his clipboard, “you’ve responded remarkably well to treatment, David. Much better than expected.”David, still seated upright in his hospital bed, gave a faint smile. “That means I’m finally getting out of here?”Dr. Allen chuckled. “That’s exactly what it means. David stood motionless in the middle of the hospital parking lot, watching the tail lights of Christian's car disappear into the distance, taking Emma with them. His heart felt like it had been ripped apart and left open in the cold. The wind picked up again, fluttering his shirt, but he didn’t feel it. Not really. Not when the weight of those messages he had once thought were filled with hope had now become a cruel reminder of what he had lost.Slowly, he turned away, each step heavier than the last. He didn’t know where he was going, didn’t even care. His body just moved, his feet dragging him forward, down streets he didn't recognize, past people he didn't see.
