The Two Men of My Life

Chapter 3: The Two Men of My Life

"Does that mean I am not a bad guy? But I just slaughtered two people. Does that mean I am a bad monster?" Christopher asked twice, his cracking voice a few seconds ago started to get calm.

However, I just witnessed his second and third symptoms - his fingers are shivering and repeating his words. His bothered heart and mind were now steady yet his ten fingers were still shivering as though he was having a convulsion.

Even his nerve-breaking rage, worries, and fears he possessed earlier had already subsided the moment he realized we were much alike, but not the shivering of his fingers.

The shivering, if I am not mistaken, seems to be typical for someone with autism like him. Let alone he was sitting and hiding in a dirty and stinky place.

"Of course, you are not a bad monster, Christopher," I replied with a calm voice and a smiling face, then I stretched out my hands toward him to help him up. "But right now, we need to get out of this place before anyone can see us."

"Why?" he frowned while staring into my hand hanging in the air. "I like it here." he continued, "Those people are already gone. And I believe they are not coming here again, especially if no one will get those dead bodies, right?"

I expected that keeping an eye on someone with autism and bipolar disorder would be that simple. Who could have thought it's not that keeping an eye on him would be the most difficult part but making him understand things is?

The worst part is that I am not the kind of wolf who's good at teaching. I, for one, need to be taught as well. "Christopher, do you trust me?" my question was delivered in a rush after noticing a few werewolves approaching in our direction.

Their ambiance was not even welcoming to my senses. Are they here to pick me up? No. I highly doubt that. Their weird expression was telling me that they were here to kill someone. If it was not me, then who could it be?

Without waiting for his response whether he trusted me or not, I reached out to Christopher's hands and dragged him out of his spot and ran away together.

"Ama? Apa?" Christopher yelled their names as he tried to loosen up my grip. However, right in front of our eyes, both of them plummeted to the ground in unison with their chest ripped open.

Christopher began screaming again and my hand was forced to let go of him when he shifted into a furious and hungry werewolf. He flashed toward the werewolf who killed Anecito and Felicidad at the speed of light and did the same thing.

He was incredibly fast. Fast enough that I did not even get the chance to see how he pulled their hearts out. Perhaps it had something to do with the alpha blood that runs through his veins.

Thereafter, he began leaping all over the place like a deranged man. Even in his werewolf form, the illness still sticks with him like a leech.

Ordinary werewolves must not react that way. If not because of his overflowing urge to kill, my wolf could say that everything is abnormal about him.

"Behind you!" I exclaimed.

My wolf is not into bloody battle but I still shift to be able to do something. Something that I might regret later on. The worst part of my case is that I just had my first shift six days ago.

I don't even know how to make use of my claws and fangs. But I must protect Christopher to do the same thing to Justine and my parents.

Instead of fighting back, I pinned the wolf onto the ground and ordered Christopher to run away. Luckily, he heard my words without asking further questions.

As soon as he disappeared out of my sight, I let go of the wolf and followed Christopher into the woods at the same time, I kept my eyes behind me to check if someone from those werewolves was chasing me.

After almost an hour of running into the woods, there, I found Christopher, in his human form with his knees on the ground. I was about to approach him but his pouring tears glued my feet on the ground.

I expected that someone with autism could barely express any human emotion but the image right in front of my eyes tells me the other way around.

He was mourning his so-called parents' death in silence. And his pouring tears tell everything. Even though I didn't know anything about them, it seemed to me that Christopher loved and cared for them.

As unbearable as the feeling is, we must not stay any longer in the woods. I believed those werewolves who chased us would not stop following our trail.

"Do you think my parents are still alive?" Christopher finally spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper, but his gaze still fixed on the ground.

"They both are, Christopher," I smiled with conviction. But I was not referring to Felecidad and Anecito but Alpha Damien and Lady Divina.

"Really?" His face started to lighten up.

A part of me wanted to tell him the truth that those old folks were not his biological parents. Even though I sealed a deal with Alpha Damien to keep it secret until we achieved our main goal of turning him into a better man, they left me with no choice.

So I nodded. "Do you want to see them now?" I stretched out my hands toward him, allowing him to read what was running through my mind.

Christopher and I exchanged glances. But even with my heightened senses, I could barely read anything out of him apart from emptiness and uncertainty.

All that he possessed inside him earlier; the rage, worry, and compassion, all disappeared in a blink of an eye. As soon as I got his approval we began our journey back to the village.

The way I expected, Alpha Damien and Lady Divina flashed out of their respective chambers as soon as they heard it was me, the first-morning visitor, who urgently sought their presence.

"What are you doing here this early, omega? Aren't you supposed to be doing your job now?" Alpha Damien blurted. He and Lady Divina gave me a backstabbing glance.

"Answer us, omega!" Lady Divina added, "Why are you here? Did something happen to our-" She immediately cut off her words knowing there were werewolf commanders around us.

Alpha Damien sensed Lady Divina's saddened mood so he comforted her by rubbing her shoulders. "Give us some privacy," he ordered his werewolf commanders.

Then he and Lady Divina invited me into the meeting room to have our conversation more private since the matter at hand was about their son and the walls of the room were built soundproof knowing we were surrounded by werewolves.

"You're both right," I started the conversation even before we settled onto our seats. "Something did happen with your so-... with Christopher. A group of wolves attacked us the other day and killed his old folks."

Alpha Damien and Lady Divina were taken aback by the confession. Their irritation and rage toward me started to melt, especially Lady Divina, who seemed to have cared for her son that much.

"I don't know if they appeared in the village filled with humans by coincidence or on purpose," then I continued. "But I am afraid we cannot get back to that place anymore."

Of course, not. There is no chance my wolf would go back to that hell of a place even if they were going to bribe me with an additional pouch of gold coins.

They hired and paid me to keep an eye on their deranged son and to help him become the man they wanted him to be. I did not sign any agreement that involved getting exposed to danger or worse getting killed.

Over my dead body even if they are going to drag me.

"Wolves in the human village? Could they be the rogue wolves who attempted to colonize us three years ago?" Alpha Damien pointed his question to Lady Femie "Only the rogue wolves have the audacity to barge into the human world to get some food and drinks."

Three years ago, I was fifteen years old at that time when the rogue wolves attempted to destroy the entire kingdom, killing thousands of our numbers.

It was also the time when the omegas like my parents were even degraded by the upper class because we were supposed to be the first line when it came to battle, but our kind first ran away.

For that same reason, even the King and his mate, degraded and despised us to the point that they even cursed us to become slaves for the rest of our lives for not doing our jobs.

Even until now, they still think of us, omegas, that way. Perhaps if their son with a brain disorder becomes the next alpha king, everything might change.

"I don't care who they were Lady Divina, Alpha Damien. Either they were rogue wolves or enemies of the pack or not, but I brought him here to make sure of his safety. That would be the safest idea apart from running away." My words cut deeper into their hearts as they exchanged bothered expressions.

After all, Christopher was their son. Alpha Damien needed him if they wanted his legacy to continue despite their son's indifference. They can hide him in the pack instead of letting the humans do that on their behalf.

In that way, they could keep an eye on him. Then I clapped my hands, his signal to get in. We all fixed our eyes on the door of the meeting room.

As soon as Christopher stepped foot into the room, Lady Divina and Alpha Damien were startled upon seeing their son with his eyes rolling from end to end and his arms and legs trembling.

"You said my parents were still alive?" Christopher asked before his eyes burst into tears. Even the tip of his lips was bent and trembled downwards as he kept pinching his fingers. "You're a liar, Elaine. LIAR!"

To our surprise, he shifted into a wolf and was about to attack me but Alpha Damien immediately came to the rescue before the commotion got out of hand.

He shifted into a wolf as well and growled at Christopher. Loud enough that his son chickened out and slid to the corner and continued trembling in fear.

Lady Divina attempted to approach Christopher but Alpha Damien growled at her before she could step her foot closer. Instead of her, I took the initiative and caressed his dense fur.

"As much as it pained me seeing our son feared me, we can't do what you wanted right now, omega." Alpha Damien replied, there was no trace of doubts or regrets in his voice. "Like we told you, he will only be welcome in this house once his illness disappears."

"What?" I frowned.

"Get him out of this place before anyone could get suspicions of us, omega. How dare you bring him here without informing us ahead," he ordered me in a demanding tone and even ignored my sharp eyes.

Lady Divina helplessly dropped her gaze to the floor when I sought her motherly instinct in this kind of situation. Her son needs comfort since his dad scolded him.

"So this means the two of you don't care about him at all, do you?" I raised the question back at them. "Fine, I'll take him out of this hell of place a place. Don't you dare blame me or my family if something bad happens to him."

I clutched Christopher's dense fur and dragged him out of the room by force even in front of them without hesitation when I already had had enough of their sarcasm. I could not believe such parents exist in this world.

After a few minutes of dragging, we ended up in front of my parent's house. Instead of my parents, I was taken aback when someone greeted me with a warm hug.

"Where have you been, Danica? You scared the hell out of me after not seeing you for days. I thought Alpha Damien or Lady Divina did something to you in exchange for your parents." Justine said right after he removed his hug from me.

Then he dropped his eyes beneath us where Christopher remained in his werewolf form. "Who this fine young man could be? I haven't seen him before in this village."
