Alpha Chester's POV
I sat at the head of the table as I listened to my Parliament lament about Governor McWrine. He was one of those dirty humans who were aware of my world and were strictly under watch. My pack, Chesterfield Pack was always the leader and head of the Parliament of Wolves. We had connections, power, and authority and instilled fear in both wolves and the humans who knew us.
Years ago, a human politician needed help to eliminate a rival who was becoming too powerful and popular among the people. The only way he would win the election was if his opponent was gone. So a mutual friend per se, brought him to us to help. We did the job no other assassin could do and took down that opponent.
All that politician had to do was give us access to the city's prison and we brought out whomever we wanted or put in whoever we see fit. For years, we and this politician had continued to do business. He was not permitted to tell anyone that we existed or disclose our identities. And he was to do everything we asked him to, while we also protected him and made sure his enemies were taken care of.
But now... After helping him become Governor of the state, McWrine was beginning to mess up. And according to our deal, whoever messed up was cleared off.
“We'll pay him a visit,” I finally spoke up after my Parliament finished complaining about how he was refusing them access to the state's weaponry.
“This time, I'll go with the men because it is I whom he's fooled above all,” I growled and got on my feet. The other men also stood and nodded their agreement. I then stomped off and let them gather the men that would accompany me to Governor McWrine's estate. By the time we would be leaving, he would be dead.
We had simply walked into the official government house because I was a known associate of the Governor who was never denied access to him. Everyone else thought I was just a billionaire associate of his, not knowing I was his master. He was afraid of me and listened to my commands like a servant. But now that my servant had decided to break our sweet bond, why don't I just take care of him forever? He went against the rules, now he would face the wrath of the rules.
However, to my dismay, Governor McWrine was nowhere to be found in his official house. We searched everywhere and noticed that he had been there a few moments before but had fled secretly and not even through the front door.
“Search everywhere! Now,” I commanded my men and they spread out. It was then that the human guards became suspicious of our intent. The head guard approached me respectfully to ask what was going on.
“Stay down and tell your guards to stay down. We are simply looking for him. You don't want problems, stay down,” I ordered him furiously. He glared at me and then looked to his guards.
“Seize them!” He commanded them. They waged towards us and I smirked. Aww, little humans want to fight.
But I wasn't here for them. Killing them all would complicate things and ruin my fake reputation.
“Relax, men,” I said in a calm voice and willed the humans to halt using my powers.
“We simply are helping the Governor who needs our help. It's exclusive information which is why we cannot share. However, we're leaving now. And would be back again.” With this, I turned around and mindlinked all my men to retreat. Obviously, Governor McWrine was not in this building or its environs. Which meant I would have to check every other place I knew he could be. He couldn't hide from me. And he knew that.
Before we even fully left the estate, I got Intel that he had just secretly arrived at his secluded mansion. Governor McWrine had kept the details of that mansion from us, saying it was not important and was just a hangout spot of his. He hardly even went there which explained why he was trying to hide there tonight. Thinking I would not search there. That was even the first place on my mind.
I had always been suspicious of that mansion. There was something that always drew me there. Oftentimes, I had found myself standing in front of it and just staring as if whatever was in there would come out to me.
Governor McWrine was hiding something else in there. And somehow, I felt it would be the gravest offence he had ever committed to me.
My men and I raced to the mansion and found a small, black car standing in front. It reeked of a sweaty Governor McWrine and I knew I had gotten hold of him.
Stealthily, we advanced into the house. The door was open, but the entire building was dark. We did not turn on the lights because we were using our night vision. Plus, we didn't want to alarm anyone. It was already 8 pm.
I traced the governor's smell until we reached a hidden door. It was a pure metallic floor-to-ceiling door, the type found in high-security buildings. Something was behind that door. Something that belonged to me. What was Governor McWrine hiding from me? What had he stolen from me?
“Bring down this door,” I commanded my men. Sure, the door was dangerously strong. But nothing a few werewolf hands couldn't destroy. I didn't want to use my energy, though only I could bring it down alone. But I was reserving myself for whatever was behind that door. Because whatever was there was mine.
Icelyn's POVMy breathing quickened and I grabbed hold of the side of my chest, just above my heart.I looked to the place my mate just disappeared through and almost called for him. It was like he left with the air I breathed because my lungs choked on me, and I began to gasp. My legs shook and I could feel them giving way beneath me.I wanted him.“Are you okay, mi lady?” Rosa asked, her eyes wide with worry. I gulped down and let my hand drop from my chest.“I...I just felt weird. I'm fine now.”She didn't look like she believed me. She turned and looked to the spot the Alpha had stood in.“I could lead you to his study instead. I think he's using the one downstairs today.”I grabbed her arm roughly.“No! No...I'm fine. Let's go to the grounds.”“You know we can feel you crave hour mate, right? Sure, it's a faint signal as opposed to that released by a wolf shifter but—”I guessed she stopped blabbing because I took off as soon as we got through the back door into the beautiful, sc
Icelyn's POV“Tell me more about this rejection thingy,” I requested and edged closer, my chicken soup still warm in my hands.Rosa exhaled and cleared her throat.“We are a people with two phases to our soul. We can appear human-like, but we are, in fact, wolf shifters. Meaning we have wolves within us and that makes us a different species. I hear you call us werewolves. We in this pack prefer to go by the name wolf shifters, ” she began, albeit nervously.I furrowed my brows.“How do you exist? Isn't it impossible? Are you aliens or something?” I inquired. Rosa laughed beautifully, her eyes twinkling.“For that, I will give you some of our history books. They're fun to read and would let you know all about us.”I nodded. That could work. I loved to read.“And the Alpha-Luna names you call?”“We as a people are ruled by a wolf chosen from high to guide and protect us. This wolf has the most power and abilities among us. They are called Alphas and their lineage is usually well preserv
Icelyn's POVMy entire body hurt as I stirred on a bed and tried moving my neck. Everything hurt, including my eyes as I tried prying them open. Thankfully, the room was not too bright so I managed to squint a little. If it was too bright, I'm afraid I would have left them closed considering my relationship with bright light. The events of the previous day flowed back to me. Was it even yesterday? I only remembered going blank at that pub. For all I know, that could be days already.I gathered my strength and pushed myself off the bed, rushing to rest my back against the bed frame. My throat hurt. I was so parched. Waterrrrr.I suddenly felt very hot and was in dire need of fresh air. Hot, thirsty, weak, sore. Was misery my newest curse? The door to the room I was in opened and a handsome, young man walked in. He wore…could that be a doctor’s uniform? It was a white long coat, except it wasn’t thick. And there was a stethoscope across his shoulders. Definitely a doctor if any of my bo
Icelyn's POV I dozed off from fatigue and anxiety but woke up to the crusty old door opening again. This time, I pretended as if I was still sleeping as they carried me up and out of the room. They dumped me at the back of a truck, laughing and excitedly talking about how they were going to be popular and respected for catching a human. They were already formulating false stories about how they caught me. That they were in some so-called woods and I fell from the sky or something. Then they began to pursue me until I fainted and they grabbed me into their truck. Only fools like them could believe this story of theirs. I was so scared when the truck began to move. Fear coated my tongue and I shivered greatly. Where was this Bones Station they were taking me? Why would they be so proud to take me there? Wait...were they going to eat me?! With the realization of what might truly befall me, I struggled to sit but my arms wouldn't obey me. The truck was going too fast and any little wr
Alpha Chester's POV “What!?” I boomed into the phone. My mate had escaped? Escaped to where? The pack was dangerous for a human. And a human like Icelyn? No, no. I couldn't lose her again. I sprang up from my swivel chair and grabbed my car keys from my desk. I was already hurrying towards my office door before I even knew it. “How could she escape the Pack House when all of you are there?!” “Alpha, she escaped during Breakfast Hour,” my butler answered. I could hear the panic and fear in his voice. He knew he was already a dead man when I arrived. “How many the f*ck times have I said you all should not go for breakfast at the same f*ck*ng time?!” I growled and yelled at the same time. My secretary at her table flinched and let down her cup of coffee. “Cancel all my appointments including the ones in the human world,” I ordered with clenched teeth as I hurried past her and pocketed my phone. I was boiling with rage. My arms shook as I pressed buttons on the elevator. “Icelyn, Ic
Icelyn's POV Revealed in his mouth were brown teeth like he'd never brushed in his life. And his breath? It was like rotten meat. I almost gagged. “Please, I have to go,” I pleaded knowing I'd run into the wrong person. This man was a creature like... Him. Like that man. I wanted nothing to do with them. As I hurried past the man out, I sighed in relief. But to my dismay, he materialized in front of me. Or did he just speed here? “Going somewhere, filthy thing?” he asked in a weird tone. I wrinkled my nose. Filthy thing? Look who's calling me filthy. “Excuse me please, I have to go,” I pleaded again. He laughed throatily and grabbed my arm. I yelped and tried to pull it out of his hold. “Hey, Nali! Come see this pretty toy I found,” he shouted over to someone I couldn't see. I knew I was in trouble. My heart pounded erratically against my chest. “Please. I'm with... I'm with the Alpha. Do you know him... Alpha?” He looked silently at me for a moment then burst into laughter. He
