LOGINIcelyn's POV
I screamed and grabbed hold of my father as the door fell in a deafening bang of dust. Dad was shaking badly.
“Run, run,” he whispered to me and pushed me as the dust was beginning to settle. I didn't know where to run to. There was no place to hide on this side of the mansion. The only safe place my father told me about was already infiltrated. Where could I run to?
“Go!” he hissed at me. I sprinted away towards my hallway. I met Ellen coming back out.
“What was that sound? My heart almost jumped out through my mouth!” She complained as she held her chest.
“They're here. Whoever Dad is running from has found us!” I told her and grabbed her arm. We ran into her room and bolted the door. Our breathing was so loud and fast. Fear coated the air we took in.
“Where can we run to?” Ellen asked. There were no windows in our wing and the only door out was that iron door that only Dad could open. And Ellen went out when Dad was around only. For your information, Dad was rarely around.
“We can't leave Dad. What if they're here to kill him?” I asked back.
“We can't help. We can't do anything.”
That moment, I heard my dad scream and then heard something crash against ceramic and shatter.
“Dad!” I ran out of the room without even thinking. Ellen screamed my name behind me but I ran off. My only parent was being beaten up. I couldn't just stand and hear my Dad scream. Besides, there was not a single place to hide. They'll definitely catch us.
“Dad!” I screamed as I saw a man with very long fingernails about to stab my father's stomach. What was he? Why were his eyes glowing? His teeth... He had fangs like a damned vampire. What was happening?!
“Icelyn, no. Go... Please...” my dad pleaded. He was bleeding from his mouth and his forehead had a bloody gash.
“Dad. Dad...” I cried and foolishly ran to him where he knelt in front of the man. I hugged him even with all that blood.
“Dad,” I cried. He broke down and began to cry too.
“Icelyn, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, my love,” he cried too and hugged me so tenderly. Around us there was silence. As if everything had come to an end. But I could still feel it. Feel that dangerous aura behind me that made my heart thump too loud.
“Dad?” I heard a voice that sounded like a lion mixed with a man. It was a growl and obviously belonged to a sinister person.
“Governor McWrine, you have a daughter?” The voice questioned. I took deep breaths and held onto my father.
“Please, Alpha Chester. Don't hurt her. She's just... She's just a kid,” my Dad pleaded.
“Why are you hiding her? Here I was thinking you would be the only one cleared off. Not knowing you have a family to be cleared off alongside you.”
Cleared off? Did that mean they were going to kill us? Oh my God!
My Dad finally let go of me. He bowed his head to the ground.
“Please, spare my daughter. She doesn't even know anything. She has no idea about the world. Please, don't kill her. Kill me instead. Take all my properties. But please, spare Icelyn.”
I was shaking so hard by the time I turned around to face the assailants. I didn't dare to look up. So I decided to bow like my father was bowing.
“Please, spare us both. It's my birthday today. Please don't take my father away from me,” I pleaded.
I felt that man's gaze fall on me. I felt he was looking at me now. My back could draw the heat from his eyes.
I saw his feet take a few steps and stand in front of me. Then he squatted. I was shivering. I was afraid. I was dying.
I felt cold fingers on my neck and flinched. But the hand went to my shoulder and began to pull me up. I obeyed and lifted my upper body, but did not dare to lift my face. The blood from my Dad had stained my beautiful dress.
“Look at me,” the man ordered. I was surprised that his voice had changed from that of a predator to a calm one. It was soothing and willed me to lift my face to his.
Immediately our eyes met, he drew in his breath. His eyes glowed amber and his jaws clenched.
“Beautiful,” he drawled and rubbed his thumb against my chin.
“Please, Alpha. Let her go. I'm begging you,” my father cried and grabbed hold of the man's leg.
“Quiet, McWrine. Don't add fuel to my already raging fire,” the man scolded but still in a calm voice, and his eyes never left mine. I also couldn't peel my eyes away from him. Something about him was alluring, beautiful, scary, dominating. My heart was thumping loudly towards him. It felt like he controlled it. I felt like he owned it.
“What's your name?” he asked me.
“Icelyn,” I found my shaky voice and answered him.
“Icelyn,” he repeated and tilted his face sideways to look at me. His amber eyes stopped glowing and I saw he had beautiful black eyes. His hair was raven-black and was slicked back from his face. He looked me over slowly, then used his fingers to trace the contour of my face.
“You're so beautiful. So perfect,” he drawled and I got a sick feeling in my gut like I was the perfect pig in front of a customer who loved pork chops.
“What do you want from us?” I asked between gritted teeth. He smirked and lifted my chin with his index finger.
“A few minutes ago, all I wanted from here was to leave your father dead. But now...” he trailed off as he gently rubbed his thumb against my lower lip.
“But now, Icelyn... All I want is you...my mate.”
Icelyn's POV I woke up to subtle movements from the side of my bed. It was obvious whatever was causing the noise did not want to wake me up. Typical Elle behavior. “Elle, I’m awake. Stop with the mouse behavior already,” I grunted and turned. A small pain in my shoulder froze me. “Oww,” I yelped. “You have to be careful, Icelyn. You’re injured."The masculine voice brought me back to reality. Elle wasn’t here and this was not my room at home. In fact, it wasn’t even my room here. I jerked up, slightly pushing against the Alpha who was bending over towards me. “Calm down. I just want to check your temperature.” “I don’t need you to check anything. Stay off!” He stood few feet away, his hands sliding into his pockets. He was fully dressed in his office wear, his hair a little still damp. “What am I doing here?” I asked. He exhaled and walked to his desk. He slid on his wristwatch and turned to face me again. “Good morning, Luna. How do you feel?” I glared at him. “This is y
Vince and I were about to drink some champagne after silently gobbling down some meat when we both heard her scream. It came as a shock at first, with my best man and I just staring at each other the first few seconds. Then we unleashed.I went out in a blur of gold light, crashing into whatever dared stay in my way. I could feel Vince behind me, his speed almost on par with mine. I could feel his anger pushing against me and it made me glad I had someone with me in this fight. Vince was as shocked as I was when I told him about Icelyn. He was there from the beginning of it all. He knew how impossible it was supposed to be able to find her. He knew I couldn't lose her... again."There... Shit!" he cussed and took off ahead of me. A big black wolf was attacking another wolf. A smaller wolf that was obviously not as skilled as he was. Vince shifted and attacked the big wolf, pulling it off the injured small wolf and sinking his fangs into its neck. I felt my mate a little way off and tu
Icelyn's POVRosa had spent the rest of the day telling me a thousand and one reasons nobody liked Lady Azul in the Pack House. She was bossy, acted like she owned the place, downgrading and too egoistic. She wasn't even 'that' pretty. “From what I've heard, she had her face done in the human world. She's all fake,” Rosa revealed for the umpteenth time. I almost rolled my eyes. “You told me that detail already. Tell me something else. Who is she... to him? Not that I care but...just curious.”Rosa leveled her eyes on me, digging into my eyeballs as if she was trying to crack a code in my pupils.“Are you sure you don't care?” she asked. “Of course I don't. You know what, don't tell me. I really don't want to know.”She smiled and shrugged.“Okay. If you say so.”Then she went about rambling about stuff that didn't concern me. Or the Alpha at all. It was torture listening to her. But at least I learned some things and asked a lot of questions. After she left me to go about her maid
Alpha Chester's POVIcelyn was supposed to be human. But I couldn't help but feel there was something otherworldly about her. Something that suppressed the predator in me the moment she showed up. I couldn't bring myself to feel angry with her. With the way she glowered at me. The way her eyes narrowed with hatred when she saw me. The way it felt like she could punch me in the gut if I so much as stepped closer to her. I couldn't react to that other than to feel shame she saw me that way. She didn't see me as her mate, neither felt this connection. The only thing she saw in me was a monster.Maybe I truly was a monster to her. I did snatch her from her world and family. Then forcefully kept her in a realm where she was a prey. What she went through with the vagabond wolves was enough to make her hate me for life. What if she had died there? What if I wasn't fast enough to save her?I heard the pen in my hand break and I looked down at my hand slowly. The pen had snapped into two, and
Icelyn's POVMy breathing quickened and I grabbed hold of the side of my chest, just above my heart.I looked to the place my mate just disappeared through and almost called for him. It was like he left with the air I breathed because my lungs choked on me, and I began to gasp. My legs shook and I could feel them giving way beneath me.I wanted him.“Are you okay, mi lady?” Rosa asked, her eyes wide with worry. I gulped down and let my hand drop from my chest.“I...I just felt weird. I'm fine now.”She didn't look like she believed me. She turned and looked to the spot the Alpha had stood in.“I could lead you to his study instead. I think he's using the one downstairs today.”I grabbed her arm roughly.“No! No...I'm fine. Let's go to the grounds.”“You know we can feel you crave hour mate, right? Sure, it's a faint signal as opposed to that released by a wolf shifter but—”I guessed she stopped blabbing because I took off as soon as we got through the back door into the beautiful, sc
Icelyn's POV“Tell me more about this rejection thingy,” I requested and edged closer, my chicken soup still warm in my hands.Rosa exhaled and cleared her throat.“We are a people with two phases to our soul. We can appear human-like, but we are, in fact, wolf shifters. Meaning we have wolves within us and that makes us a different species. I hear you call us werewolves. We in this pack prefer to go by the name wolf shifters, ” she began, albeit nervously.I furrowed my brows.“How do you exist? Isn't it impossible? Are you aliens or something?” I inquired. Rosa laughed beautifully, her eyes twinkling.“For that, I will give you some of our history books. They're fun to read and would let you know all about us.”I nodded. That could work. I loved to read.“And the Alpha-Luna names you call?”“We as a people are ruled by a wolf chosen from high to guide and protect us. This wolf has the most power and abilities among us. They are called Alphas and their lineage is usually well preserv
