Chapter 19

On the day of the competition, I felt confident. I may not win at this, but I knew I wouldn't go down without a fight.

I felt that I had changed a lot. I felt like I was worthy of being the daughter of an alpha and that I would not embarrass the Smollett family.

Alvis came to see me right before the competition to wish me luck.

"You look good, Lindsey. Are you ready for this?" He asked me.

"I'm ready for this, Alvis. I've been waiting for this all week," I said, trying to make myself sound confident.

"Don't think too hard. Stay confident and remember not to attack your opponent senselessly." Alvis took my hand in his. "You can do this, Lindsey."

My eyes nearly teared up. It felt good to have someone who believed in me for once. Even my father and mother tried to discourage me last night.

"Lindsey! So you are competing for real," Betty sounded surprised.

"Yes. I said I would, didn't I?" I frowned. Was she trying to undermine me again?
