Amalthea's POV
I tossed and turned on my bed as I begged sleep to claim me but to no avail. My eyes snapped open at every sound I heard coming from the hallway. I was scared and paranoid. My thoughts kept telling me if I dared to close my eyes, even for a second whoever had put the note on my dresser might come for me. They might try to finish the job and I would be lying helplessly in my bed. I tried to shut down my brain but nothing I did was working so in the end I laid on my back, staring at my ceiling."This is so messed up." I muttered frustratedly to myself. How could someone I didn't know wield so much power over me? How could they make me cower in fear like this? The thoughts grated on my mind and I threw off my bed covers and stepped out of my bed."They don't get to have that kind of power over me." I muttered into the dark, to no one in particular.I put on my lights and scanned the room, trying to prove to myself that thereAmalthea's POV "Thea," Nic called out to me and I turned to him with a bright smile. I ran as fast as I could and flung myself into his arms."Easy there," he caught me effortlessly and twirled me around as I clung to his neck. He gently placed me down and placed a sweet unhurried kiss to my lips which I savoured. My heart threatened to combust with how much love I had for this man and I wondered how I thought I would possibly live without him."You are so beautiful Thea," he cupped my face and caressed my cheeks as he stared at me with loving eyes."You flatter me too much," I blushed under his praise as he slowly bent and placed a light kiss onto my collarbone right where his mark was.As he raised his head though, his eyes were filled with sadness and apprehension gripped me."Nic, what's wrong?" I questioned."I'm sorry Thea," he announced as he slowly let go of me and began to step away from me."What's going on Nic? Talk to me," I pleaded as tears slowly ran down my face as I k
Amalthea's POV "You've been awfully quiet." Mikayla commented as she stared at me."I have a lot on my mind." I revealed as I closed the book I had been 'reading'."I think you've been on the same page for the last twenty minutes." She continued."I thought you were reading as well, or have you been observing me all the while?" I arched my brow."You caught me." She admitted as she closed the book she had in her laps."Is there a reason you've been staring at me?" I inquired, even as I was lost in thought I could feel her stare on me but I shrugged it off."You seem sad," she observed."What makes you think that?" I asked."Your eyes, they aren't your usual bright grey, they're dull and honestly your face is still blotched from all the tears you have no doubt been shedding." She explained and embarrassment flooded my cheeks."I think I'm coming down with a cold," I attempted to cover up and both of us knew she didn't buy it."Does this have anything to do with Jade?" Mikayla inquired
Jade's POV I slammed the library door shut with all my might, ignoring the rattling of the books sitting on the shelf. I was fuming with rage and my wolf itched to claw at something but I tamed her in.After everything Thea and I had been through, I was honestly hurt that she didn't trust me enough to ask, she just jumped into conclusions. How had those stupid papers even made their way into my dresser drawers?"You look like you could burn down the whole pack house." A voice called out and I turned to face Mikayla sitting in the corner with a book cradled on her lap."Since when did you start reading in the library?" I blurted out as I frowned at her."The library is open to everyone isn't it?" She retorted."I thought I'd try a new pastime activity." She continued with a shrug."Whatever." I muttered as I made my way to leave."You don't have to leave on my account, we could share. There are a lot of unoccupied chairs after all," Mikayla called out to me as she gestured towards the
Amalthea's POV I picked at my dinner as everything tasted bland and I generally couldn't work up an appetite. My face was blotched from crying, I seemed to be doing that a lot these days, and a small part of me wished I could go downstairs and grab a tub of ice cream as I wallowed in self pity. I couldn't do that, however, as I was in hiding from almost everyone in the pack house. As I thought about my ice cream and self loathing thoughts of Jade flooded my mind as she was the one who taught me how to eat ice cream and chocolates to make everything feel better when you are hurting. Thinking of her now sent an arrow to my heart and a sob racked through me as I finally gave up on eating my lasagna and I pushed the plate away and curled up in my bed.How long had Jade felt that way about me? Why did she feel the need to pretend and act as though she was my friend when all the while she was really just irritated at my presence? Surely Callum knew and he had also remained silent, watching
Nicholson's POV I stared at the man lying helplessly on the bed as his breath came out laboured. His face was a reddish purple from all the stitched wounds as bruises he had returned with. I leaned back in my chair as I waited for the man to come through. What had happened?Slowly, the man's eyes peered open and he scanned his surroundings. His eyes widened as they landed on me and he made to sit up but I rose from my chair and pushed him back onto the bed."You are in bad condition, you need rest." I muttered as he groaned.I pressed the buttons by the side of his bed which alerted the doctors he was awake and within a few seconds, the pack doctor strolled into the room, pausing when he saw me."He's awake." I announced as the pack doctor strolled to the man's side."Do your routine check up and tell me if he's fit to talk, I need to speak to him urgently." I told the doctor before I walked out of the room and took a seat in the waiting area.I tapped my foot as I patiently waited
Amalthea's pov"We'll finish this conversation later." Mikayla informed me as she rushed after the man but curiosity got the better of me and I followed behind them. We made our way into the infirmary where the man was laid down and the pack doctor began treating his wounds."What are you doing here?" Mikayla asked when she noticed me behind her."I wanted to know what was going on," I shrugged."You shouldn't be here." She announced as the man writhed in pain when the pack doctor cleaned his wounds with some spirits. His face was bloodied and I couldn't make out his features."I'm a part of this pack aren't I?" I retorted and Mikayla just rolled her eyes in response."What happened to him?" Mikayla asked the men who had brought him in at the same time the doors tore open and Nic walked into the room. I growled lowly within me, annoyed at myself because even now, after everything I still found myself being pulled and attracted to him because of the stupid bond. Unlike me, Nic looked p
