(Third party POV)

Hours passed under the cover of moonlight. They moved swiftly, but with care, weaving through gullies, streams, and ridgelines to leave as little trace as possible. At times, they froze mid-step, senses straining for signs of sentries or traps. Twice, Camerin spotted fresh prints wolves scouting the edges of their territory. Both times, the hunters shifted direction, cutting wide arcs to avoid detection.

Camerin’s voice came low, barely audible: “He’s pulling them closer in. Either Jaxson’s pack is shrinking… or he’s consolidating for something bigger.”

By dawn, the hunters reached the first true sign of Jaxson’s influence. A burned-out farmhouse, its roof collapsed, claw marks etched deep into the stone walls. A warning, or a grave marker.

One of the hunters crouched low, touching the ground. “Blood. a day old.”

Camerin’s gaze hardened. “We’re close.”

The hunters spread out, scanning the treeline. No one spoke, but the air was heavy with the knowledge: wh

135 (Kathryn’s POV) The air between us was heavy, too heavy, like the whole packhouse might crack under it. Tyler’s jaw was set, my chest was still heaving, and neither of us had moved an inch when Camerin finally cleared his throat. “Alright,” he said, voice low but steady. “Before you two decide whether to drag the entire pack through this argument, let me be the one to remind you what’s at stake.” We both turned, startled like we’d forgotten he was even in the room. Camerin leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, eyes sharp in that way that always cut through the noise. “If Kate’s going to do this, it’s not just about her risk. Every time she touches someone, every vision she sees, it’s going to ripple through the pack. Suspicions. Fear. Wolves turning on each other.” He shook his head. “You think a spy is dangerous? A pack divided is worse.” I swallowed hard. The reality in his words was cold, but true. “So what’s your point?” Tyler asked, his voice gruff. “My point is, you

134 (Tyler’s POV) I’d suspected it for weeks. At first, I told myself it was a coincidence that Jaxson was just cunning, that he’d learned how to read the way we moved, the way we fought. But the pattern was too clean. Every raid. Every ambush. Every time I shifted warriors into position, Jaxson was waiting. He wasn’t guessing. Someone was telling him. I called a meeting, but not with all of them. Only Camerin, Micah, and two I trusted with my life since the first time they bled beside me. We gathered in the war room after nightfall, the door barred, guards outside with orders to keep everyone else out. “There’s a leak,” I said flatly. No preamble. “Jaxson doesn’t out maneuver me without help. He has eyes in this pack.” The silence was heavy, each of them exchanging tense glances. Camerin was the first to speak. “You want me to run the warriors through an interrogation line?” I shook my head. “No. Too obvious. The moment they feel pressure, whoever it is will bolt or worse, feed

133 (Camerin’s POV) The shrine still burned in my mind the way the shadows screamed when I cut it apart, the sound echoing like bones snapping underfoot. I’d done the right thing, I was sure of it. But the land itself felt like it wanted blood for what I’d taken. We slipped into the trees under cover of dark, no torches, no sound but the crunch of boots and the low pad of wolves shifting along the flanks. I kept my hand on my blade the entire time. The woods were too quiet. When the night goes still like that, it means something is listening. “Move faster,” I whispered down the line. “We stirred the hornet’s nest. Expect the sting.” The hunters tightened ranks, their breath coming heavy, but no one complained. They’d seen what I had those wolves writhing in the dirt when the shrine fell, like strings cut loose from a puppet. That kind of power doesn’t just vanish. It finds another way to claw back. Branches cracked somewhere behind us. Too heavy for a deer. Too sharp for the win

131 (Tyler’s POV) I tore through the trees like fire was eating my heels. Every heartbeat pounded one name through my skull, Kate. Camerin and half the warriors broke off behind me, the rest holding Jaxson’s wolves back as best they could. I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. If Jaxson wanted me to chase him, fine. But if Kate fell because of this… I shoved the thought down and ran harder. (Kathryn’s POV) I heard the windows shatter before the alarms went off. Celia shoved me behind the heavy oak table as three wolves in Jaxson’s colors stormed through the door. Micah was already there, claws out, his roar shaking the walls as he met the first wolf head-on. Another wolf lunged straight for me. I rolled, came up with the silver dagger Tyler had made me wear ever since the last attack. My heart pounded, my hands shook but I slashed anyway, catching the wolf across the shoulder. It howled, but didn’t stop. Outside, more of our warriors collided with Jaxson’s wolves, the clash of teet

130 (Tyler’s POV) We moved out as the last of the light bled from the sky. Camerin led the hunters up front, his bow slung across his back, rifle in hand. Marcus’s men flanked our side, tense but steady they’d given me their word. For tonight, that would have to be enough. The air was thick with the scent of pine, cold earth, and something else. Something older. Even the wind carried it like a warning. We ran fast and silent through the forest, wolves shifting at intervals along the line, some padding ahead to scout, others staying in human form with weapons ready. I stayed near the center, eyes sharp on the ridgelines above us. This wasn’t just a hunt. It was an execution waiting to happen. As we crossed the border into what had been Jaxson’s territory, the trees grew denser, the trails narrower. His people had lived here for generations, but now? The place felt… wrong. Camerin raised a hand, signaling a halt. He crouched low, studying the dirt path ahead. “Tracks,” he murmured
