Lyra’s POV

Hard as I tried not to let my excitement show, a small stupid little smile kept trying to curl my lips as I walked the dim hall toward Nyx’s rooms. Four days. It’d been four whole days since I’d had her to myself. Lately, all her time got sucked up by that new prisoner, the half-dead human male she hauled in from the warehouses. Probably torturing him. Taking him apart bit by bit, like she does. I get it. After everything, rage is what keeps her moving. But hell, I missed her and I'm sure as hell she missed me too.

Tonight, I’ll remind her I’m the one who can cool that fire.

I wore the deep red silk slip, the one that stops mid-thigh. Thin straps crossed my back. Nothing underneath. Just skin. My hair fell loose, and I’d dabbed jasmine oil at my throat—her favorite. She always said it made her want to bury her face right there and forget the world.

The guards at the end of the corridor looked away as I passed. They know better than to stare. I’m the Alpha Queen’s lover. The

Kayden’s POVThe bedroom door clicked shut, sealing us in. The fight with Lyra felt like it happened in another lifetime. Now it was just the quiet, and her, and the space between us that felt charged and stupid.Nyx walked ahead of me. She hadn’t bothered to tie her robe. Black silk hung loose, slipping with every step to show a flash of shoulder, the line of her spine, the curve of her hip. City light from the window cut across her skin in silver stripes. My brain short-circuited.I just stared. Couldn’t help it. My eyes tracked her like they were glued on, taking in every shift and shadow. Remembering how those hips moved. How her skin tasted. A heavy, stupid heat pooled in my gut, reckless and demanding. I wanted to cross the room, rip that flimsy silk away, and take her right there against the wall. Forget the mission. Forget my name.A folded heap of dark fabric smacked me right in the face.I jerked back, fumbling to catch it. Rough cloth. Pants and a shirt.“Finally.” Her voic

Chapter ElevenLyra’s POVThat question just hung there. You actually care about her, don’t you?He didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. You could see it all on his face, plain as day. This weird, tangled-up look. It made me want to scream. Right there in the hallway. All my time, all my work, everything I’d built—it was coming apart because of some guy who heals fast and can’t make up his mind.“What is going on here?”Nyx’s voice. It sliced down the hall, cold and sharp. It wasn’t a question you could ignore. We both jerked like kids caught stealing. Kayden and me, still standing there like we were about to throw more punches, looked over at the same time. She was in the doorway. Backlit from her room, so she was mostly a silhouette. She’d tied a robe on, tight around her waist. Her hair was a mess from sleep, but her eyes… her eyes were completely awake. And they were looking at everything. The knife on the floor with blood on it. the dark, wet patch on Kayden’s side. The way we were

Kayden’s POVThe world was just pain, a white-hot sun burning in my side. Her voice, that sweet, poison whisper floated somewhere above me.My vision swam. The hallway walls tilted. But I’d been hurt worse. Taught to function through worse. My hand shot up, not to the wound, but to hers. The one holding the knife. My fingers closed around her wrist, slick with my own blood, and squeezed. Hard. I felt the fine bones grind together. Her gasp was a sharp, satisfying sound.I looked up, right into the slits of her mask. “You should have made sure I was down,” I gritted out. Then I pulled. The knife came free with a sick, wet sound. A fresh tide of agony washed over me, but it was a clean pain now. Controllable.I didn’t throw the knife away. I kept her wrist locked, yanked her off balance, and kicked out. My foot connected with her stomach, solid and mean. The air left her in a whoosh. She stumbled back, hitting the opposite wall.It bought me maybe three seconds.I pressed my free hand o

Chapter NineKayden’s POVFinally, she was asleep.I was on my side, elbow digging into the mattress, just… watching her. Even now, she didn’t look restful. Her eyebrows were pulled together. Her mouth had that little downturn at the corners. Like she was carrying every problem she’d ever had right into her dreams. It made my own chest ache. A stupid, physical reaction I didn’t ask for.I shook my head a little. Idiot. Cut it out. This was just work. A job. The plan was simple: get close, get her to trust me. Telling her the truth about the poison—or a slice of it—was a solid move. Made me look like a turncoat. Made her think I was her new best weapon against Silas. She believed me. She let me stay. But the other thing… that was messing me up.Right from the start, from that first second in the warehouse, I wanted her. And I don’t mean for the mission. I mean a real, crawling-under-the-skin kind of want. I figured once we… you know, once it happened, the feeling would fade. You scratc

  • Lusting After the alpha queen    This changes everything

Nyx’s POVGod, my pulse was hammering so hard I could hear it in my ears. Each step up those damn stone stairs felt like wading through mud, his hand wrapped around mine, fingers tangled in a way that was too gentle for someone who’d tried to kill me. His skin was rough—calluses from whatever weapons he wielded, a slight shake he probably thought I wouldn’t notice. Or maybe it was my own hand trembling. Hard to tell anymore. What the actual hell was I doing? This wasn’t me. I’m the Alpha Queen. I don’t do hand-holding. I don’t bring assassins into my private rooms for a chat. I chain them up, break them down, make sure they never get up again. But here I was, letting this guy—the one who’d poisoned my family—walk beside me like we were on a date. The door to my suite finally appeared, that massive oak slab with iron bands, wolves and moons carved deep into the wood. I shoved it open, and the room hit me with cool air and the faint glow of city lights spilling through the tall windows.
