My whole body trembles, my brows are furrowed. He suddenly looks different from the man I fell in love with three years ago. The man I grew up knowing to be the only person I can trust apart from my father. He takes a deep breath. “You don't have to make this difficult for me...” “I… I don't understand. What is going on?” At this moment, a few other soldiers rush back to us but their gazes are on him. He nods at them and they rush out immediately. This is when it dawns on me, he had picked men loyal to him for this mission. All I did was add an extra twenty men to his selection. “Look… now is not the time for this.” He places his hand on mine but I quickly extract my hand from his. “If you survive today, I promise… I will tell you all about it.” “What's….that supposed to mean?” I ask but he ignores me, not saying anything. “What is going on? Raze….. who is in that vehicle? Who exactly are we here to rescue?” I ask, still looking at his sudden dilated pupils. I just need him to say something that will make me feel better. There has to be an explanation for this, he was never like this. He was always honest and loyal to my family. The sound of bullets flying in the air startles me and we glance at the vehicles. The men of the Cindersteel Creed have gotten out and begin shooting my men. They shoot arrogantly with their moon entwined with a snake biting its edge insignia, stitched over the chest of their black uniform. I look at Raze. His jaw ticks fast and before I can say anything further, he rushes down as well. “Raze!!” I yell, running to follow him. The soldiers block my path. I ignore them and rush back to the pavement, a lot of things going through my head at this moment. Right here, I watch my men fall to the floor as my husband sneaks and pulls out a young woman from the back door. I blinked a few times, not believing my eyes. But that doesn't change what I am seeing. I widen my eyes, seeing him touch her cheeks and then sneak her to safety. I feel a lump form in my chest. Tears well up in my eyes but I quickly blink it away. There has to be a mistake somewhere. Raze must have been manipulated or something. I hurry to rush down the stairs but a few soldiers block my path again. “It's not safe down there,” one says. “Get out of my way!!” I snarl. “Now!!!” I feel my claws popping out and I believe they see it. They step out of the way, letting me run down the stairs. I rush out of the building and out of the compound, my eyes searching for my husband, despite the bullets scattering in the air. Three of my soldiers see me and rush to me. “Where is Raze? Where is my husband?” I yell, still glancing around. A sharp pain pierces my heart, the moment I see him at a corner, across the road, hugging this young lady. I try to rush to their direction but one of the soldiers I selected myself, drags me back. “We would take cover,” another says. I nod and hurry to Raze while they take cover. I hear a bullet hitting one of them but that cannot be my concern at the moment. I get to the corner where Raze is and he doesn't even flinch. The girl with him has no resemblance to Cassie. I know I'm already aware that she can't be Cassie. But a part of me still wishes there was a mistake somewhere and we were actually here to rescue his sister. My heart begins beating faster. “You said we were here to rescue your sister,” I say, tears welling up in my eyes again. “Well, she doesn't look like your sister!” “I don't have time for this!” I wipe my tears, trying to get a hold of myself. “What do you mean… you don't have time for this?... I am your wife!!” The girl looks at me and winks at me. “Hy, I'm Kenna Starclaw, Raze’s girlfriend and fated mate…. I'm pleased to finally meet you.” My heart drops. I feel something sink inside me, a slow pull I can't fight. Her words echo in my mind. I shake my head a little and I stagger backwards. I take a deep breath, looking at Raze and expecting him to say something. Anything that will dispute what I had just heard. But instead, he holds her hands tightly and smiles. My heart aches. Raze is the only man I have ever known. He was my father's most loyal steward and was chosen by my father to be my husband. I look around and I see bodies of both my men and the Cindersteel Creed’s men littering the floor, all for my husband's mistress. “Raze, please say something. Tell me that she is lying, please.” “Oh come on, Darling. You know I can't tell you that.” He says, with no atom of remorse. My breath catches. So this is it. This is why he refused to touch me on our wedding night. He has never had real feelings for me, whereas I loved him to the core, Gosh! I still do. I would have done anything for him. Tears blur my vision and this time, I let it stream down my cheeks. To my surprise, the girl stands and rips out my necklace from my neck. “There is no need to wail over this… Just walk away…. Leave and never return…. People barely even know what you look like…” “The Alpha transfer wouldn't work if she remains alive….” Raze cuts in. My heart skips a beat, my eyes wide in shock. This can't be happening. Not after I had signed the Moonline Matrimonial on his persuasion, an accord that permits the high priestess to transfer my alpha powers to him, should I die without an heir. He plans to kill me after all. This must have been why he insisted I come along. My husband brought me far away from my home to die along with my soldiers, so he can be with his fated mate. I won't let it happen. I wipe my tears immediately. I am not going to let him take my powers, he has done enough. “You've betrayed me Raze, after everything my father did for you! Now you want to take me out and rule my pack!!!.... It will never happen!!” I turn to call on my soldiers but my heart drops, seeing that the Cindersteel Creed's men are all dead and my men, now fighting each other.Evander I don't get it. How the hell did she get into my territory? My mind jumps straight to Raze. It's definitely him. Maybe he brought her here, maybe he is trying to hide her from her own people.Fuck! None of this makes any sense.“Was she with someone?” I ask.The girl shakes her head quickly, still bowed.I force a slow breath in, trying to steady the chaos in my chest. Gosh! Kenna is still missing. She could be in real trouble. I cannot afford this distraction right now. I must focus on finding Kenna.“Apart from her,” I continue, voice tighter, “who else came in here in the past thirty minutes?”She is still trembling. “It was only her… I think she is looking for you.”I freeze. “For me?”She nods.I study the raw fear in her eyes and wonder what could make her this terrified. “Calm down and tell me what you know.”She panics instantly. “I know nothing else, I swear!”I don’t believe her, her eyes are contradictory. Something about the way her gaze keeps darting sideways te
Seraphina I stand there for a moment, mind racing through every possible option. Running again will only get me more lost and begging is also useless. I guess I just have to be pragmatic right now.I force a slow breath in, then out, steadying the anger still burning under my skin. Then I force a smile, hoping she believes it.“I can pay you for the information.”Her eyes lift from the screen, studying me with open suspicion, as if testing whether the offer is real.“I’m serious,” I add. “A thousand dollars for the information.”Her gaze slides over me again, this time with clear disgust. The look makes my jaw tighten as she straightens slightly. “You really do seem like there is more to you. Do you have a card with you?”I shake my head. Her expression sours. “So how do you intend to pay?”“I will. Just give me your account details. Once I get there…”“Oh please.” She cuts me off, already reaching into the drawer beneath the counter and pulling out a sleek black device no larger th
Seraphina He turns his head and looks at me like he cannot make sense of anything I just said.“Please.” I say, hoping this time around I can convince him to forget about all this. But he ignores the word completely and presses harder on the accelerator, the engine snarling. My heart starts hammering against my ribs as we get closer to the mall again. I really don't know what to do anymore. The moment he parks, he is already out of the car, opening my door. I stay glued to the seat, arms locked across my chest, not wanting to get down.“Seriously?”“I’m not going in there with you. If you really want to give her the money, then go alone.”His jaw tightens. “Kenna, I’m trying to clear your debt. It’s insulting that you even stole it.”I fold my arms tighter. “What happened was a mistake, but I won’t let that define me. I won’t let her know that the thief who stole from her is Kenna Starclaw.”I wait, hoping the finality in my voice will make him drop it. Instead he scoffs, shakes his
Seraphina My heart slams against my ribs so hard I can barely breathe. I have not seen Cassie since the days before my wedding, only met her once and we connected. She seemed sweet and calm, well I thought the same of her brother, until he planned my death. Now I don't even know where she stands. As much as there is no certainty that she will recognize, I still can't take that risk. She is likely to update her brother about my whereabouts and most importantly, she might call me by my real name in front of Evander.Damn it! I can't let that happen. The moment she steps fully inside I duck behind the nearest rack, heart racing. Evander follows at once, brows drawn together in confusion. “What’s the problem?”I open my mouth but close it instantly, not knowing what to respond.“Kenna…”I swallow hard, thinking of what to say to make him take me out of here at once.“That lady who just walked in… I don’t want her to see me.”He peeks carefully through the hangers, then looks back at me
Seraphina As the car pulls away from the training grounds I keep glancing at his profile, wondering where he could possibly be taking me. He never once looks in my direction, his eyes staying locked on the road, hands steady on the wheel, as if I am not even sitting beside him. This is quite strange. For a few days now, he has been silent on me and now he expects me to trust him as he drives me to goddess knows where. The silence stretches until it begins to bother too much. I can't take it anymore.“Where are we going?”“Is it that hard to trust me?” he answers without glancing over.Realising how pointless it is to demand an answer, I turn my face to the window and begin watching the trees blur past us, the beauty of them doing nothing to quiet the uneasy flutter in my chest. After a while the car slows. To my surprise he stops in front of a large, gleaming mall. He steps out, walks around, and opens my door for me. I only stare at him as he gestures toward the entrance with a
Seraphina I drive every punch and kick harder than the last, sweat stinging my eyes, muscles burning. If pure exhaustion can force my wolf closer to the surface, then I will empty everything I have into this dummy until something finally answers. The need to heal, to survive long enough to take back what is mine, pushes me past the point of careful technique into raw, relentless force. Then, a shift in the air makes me glance sideways. To my astonishment, Evander is standing at the edge of the training ground, watching.I freeze mid-motion, chest heaving. I never expected to find him here, eyes fixed on me like he has never seen me before. He takes a single step forward. “Wow. That’s quite the skill you’ve got there.”I peel the gloves off my hands, voice flatter than I intend. “My father trained me well.”His expression changes, shocked perhaps, then a flicker of something sharper. This is when it dawns on me, I shouldn't have said that. Kenna’s father is not even a warrior and my
Seraphina.“I won't do it!” I say, shaking my head. They stare at each other, eyes wide in shock.“What makes you think you have a choice?” She asks, stopping right before me and staring into my eyes.“I will not stoop so low to take the identity of another…. I am the..” I cut, glancing at them.I
Seraphina Right in my eyes, my soldiers loyal to me begin to die at the hands of those whose loyalty is obviously bought. I freeze on the spot, not knowing what to do. But one thing is certain, I will not let him win this. I howl so loud, reminding them who their alpha is. I feel my eyes glowin
Seraphina My husband hasn't smiled for the past four days, not even on our wedding night. For years now, I anticipated our wedding night, the day he would finally kiss me and make love to me. I've heard stories about the wedding night, all my maids made it known that it would be the best feeling
Seraphina His mouth latches onto me fully, sucking gently at first, then with more hunger, his tongue flicking and circling that swollen, sensitive bud. I can’t stop the sounds spilling from me, moans, whimpers, broken pleas that don’t even sound like my voice anymore. The wet heat of his tongue
