*The weeping valley — just before dawn*

The sky was coloured, caught between night and the low light of dawn.

Crystal crouched near the broken glyph-stones, her fingers trembling slightly as she traced the cracks left behind.

The heat in her mark had dulled but it still lingered.

Behind her, the Starblood warriors moved in silence. Their gazes moved toward the valley and away again, like even looking at the glyphs too long might invite something watching back. No one spoke of Elira.

Not yet.

Ryder stood a short distance away, his back to her, flanked by Luca and two of his scouts.

His arms were crossed, his posture tense. Not even the rising wind seemed to disturb him.

Ethan approached from behind, crouching beside her, careful not to step on the glyphs.

“She shook you,” he said quietly.

Crystal didn’t look at him. “No,” she said.“She confirmed it.”

He waited.

“I always thought…” Her breath hitched. “That I was born wrong. A werewolf without a wolf. A Luna with prophecies

*Silver Fang Border — The Broken Stones, Pre-Dawn*The broken stones of the ancient battleground glowed faintly beneath the moon, as if some memory of old wars still clung to the earth. The air was unnaturally cold for pre-dawn.White mist puffed from Lesley's lips as she and Aria followed Queen Elira to the circle of stones. Above them, Silver Fang’s banners stirred in a restless wind. Wolves whispered from the tree line, their eyes gleaming curiously.Aria pulled her cloak tighter. “They are nervous.”“They should be,” Elira murmured without turning. Her gown brushed the ground as she stepped onto the first cracked slab. “Tonight, the world remembers its old masters.”Lesley swallowed her awe, furious at herself for feeling it. She hated to give Elira the satisfaction, but even she could feel the hum in the ground beneath her boots. For a moment she imagined Ryder’s face if he could see her here… the disgust in his golden eyes, Crystal’s quiet strength beside him. That picture only

*Outskirts, Nightfall*The forest swallowed them whole. Lesley ran until her lungs burned, her dress were torn by thorns, her wrists still raw from where Starblood’s dungeon chains had dug into her skin. Behind her, Aria kept pace, silent but sharp-eyed.They knew Starblood's guards would have discovered the broken locks and empty cells. Somewhere, Ryder and Crystal would be gathering hunters. But for now, they were ghosts in the woods, vanishing into the dark.Lesley’s chest ached, but her anger burned hotter than her exhaustion. Each twig that cracked under her boots fed her rage. Ryder’s mate. Crystal. The Flame. Always her name on their lips. Always the girl who wasn’t her. They reached a stream, its surface glittering faintly under the moon. Lesley paused only long enough to cup water into her mouth. The chill stung her cracked lips, but she didn’t care. Aria crouched nearby, her expression unreadable.“Do you even know where we’re going?” Aria asked.Lesley wiped her mouth with

*Starblood Pack — Eastern Ridge, Dawn* Luca stood near the edge of the cliff where the Starblood banners hung tattered from last night’s winds. His bandaged arm throbbed with every breath, a reminder of the battle and his own stubbornness. He hated the silence after war. It left room for thinking. Behind him, Thalia’s boots crunched on the damp earth. She carried her spear across her shoulders like it was an extension of herself. She didn’t look like someone who had almost bled out, she looked like someone who’d dare the world to try again. “Still brooding?” Her voice was sharp, teasing, but her steps slowed as she reached him. Luca didn’t look back. “Thinking.” “Same thing,” she muttered, then joined him at the cliff’s edge. From here, the valley stretched below… trees splintered by flame, the river choked with fallen branches, the far hills smudged in smoke. Wolves were already down there, clearing debris, building makeshift pyres for the fallen. They stood in silence for a lo

*Starblood Pack — Healer’s Den, Night Deepens*The healer’s den had grown quieter since dusk settled fully. The wounded had drifted into uneasy sleep, their shallow breaths and faint groans echoing beneath the low rafters. Outside, the pack’s guards paced the treeline with wary eyes. Crystal sat against Ryder’s cot, her fingers tangled with his. His breathing was steadier now, but every time he winced in his sleep, guilt dug claws into her chest. Aelira was quiet within her, subdued after the firestorm, but Crystal could still feel the wolf’s vigilance—ears pricked, ready to answer any threat. She glanced at Luca’s bandaged arm across the room and at Alia dozing beside Ethan, her head resting lightly on his shoulder. The den smelled of healing herbs and smoke, a mingling of comfort and destruction. Each groan from a wounded wolf felt like a reminder of what her power had cost. Crystal brushed her thumb over Ryder’s knuckles, drawing small circles. I almost lost him. The thought struc

*Starblood Pack — Western Border, Dusk* The wind carried the faint smell of ashes even here. It clung to Ryder’s clothes, to Crystal’s hair, to every wolf who had walked through Moonlight’s ruin. Starblood’s forest should have felt like home, but tonight, the trees loomed like watchful guards. Ryder led the scouting party himself. He needed movement, needed something to push against besides the image of bleeding pups. Beside him, Luca and Darius flanked the path. Evren moved like a shadow between the trees, silent and alert. Crystal followed a step behind Ryder, her boots rustled over dead leaves. Aelira’s voice brushed the edge of her mind. Something isn’t right. Crystal glanced toward Ryder. The set of his jaw told her he felt it too. Aiden prowled under his skin, restless, golden eyes flashing whenever the light caught him just so. “We’re close to the western ridge,” Luca murmured, scanning the underbrush. “If Silver Fang is smart, they will avoid—” A branch snapped. Ryder’

*Moonlight Pack — Smoldering Grounds, Dawn*The smell of smoke still clung to the air, long after the last flames had died. Dawn’s light spilled over Moonlight’s once-proud territory, but the sunrise felt hollow, its warmth unable to touch the ruin below.Where strong walls had stood, there were splintered beams jutting out. The training yard—where pups had once laughed and warriors had sparred—was nothing but ashes and shattered stone. The great hall, heart of the pack’s gatherings, was a blackened shell.Crystal stood among the wreckage, her boots crunching charcoal. Her heart felt as fragile as the burned-out remains. She had seen battles before—she had bled in Greenwood, she had burned Silver Fang wolves when there was no other choice—but this… this was home destroyed.Ryder stepped up behind her, golden eyes scanning the horizon for movement. His wolf, Aiden, prowled restlessly just beneath his skin, furious and protective. Ryder’s arm brushed against her shoulder, grounding her
