Chapter 2

I was sitting by the foot of my floor bed, my knees drawn to my chest and my arms wrapped around them. I leaned my head against my knees, staring into blank space with my heavy eye bags. My eyes were swollen, and I had cried so much, I had no tears left to cry. My nose was pink from wiping it too many times.

I still can't accept the fact that my best friend has left me.

The door to my bedroom slammed open and Fiona came barging in, "that's where you've been, you bitch? When did you return home?!"

I had stayed at Nancy's all night long, crying my eyes out, and didn't return until it was past midnight. I didn't care about the punishments, Nancy left me alone, knowing she was everything I had.

"Emmmm, why do you look so dead?"

My cousin scrunched her nose in disgust, just looking at my face for the first time "you better get to your feet, mom and dad rented an event center, all the neighboring alphas and betas are coming to my birthday party tonight, even the fucking legendary lycan," she took a long gasp at her last statement like she couldn't believe it was true, "That's the lycan, they said he is the most handsome and powerful werewolf, do you even know what that means?"

When she noticed my lack of response, she came toward me and pulled me forcefully to my feet. "What the fuck is wrong with you? You think you're going to avoid trouble pretending to be sick?" For one second, there was something like concern flashing in her eyes, but it was gone immediately, "The event still needs proper setting, you and your omega friend are nowhere to be seen, you have a second before…"

Her sentence was incomplete as my aunt burst into my open room, stormed towards me, grabbed a fistful of my shirt, and slapped me hard across the face, "you slut! Where were you all day yesterday?"

As she spoke, her golden bangles clinked against her wrist, and they had hit me when she slapped me, "what makes you think you have the right to eat our food for free and then leave and go as you wish?" Still holding my shirt, she dragged me out of my room and closed the door shut, "down to the event center before I slap you to death."

At this point, death was better for me, but I could not argue. I wanted a space to think about Nancy without being yelled at, the entire house was already lined with presents for Fiona's eighteenth birthday, I could only imagine how much more she had waiting in stall at the event, for her.

My last birthday, I met Nancy, but now, she like my parents had left me as well.

I felt like an outcast as I stood in a corner of the party, no one paying any special attention to me. I was dressed in my rags from the day before since aunt Frida had not given me the chance to even take a shower, and my hair kept going every which way because I hadn't brushed it. I momentarily ran my fingers through it every chance I got.

The hall was rented for Fiona's party and was flooded with Alpha and Betas of ally packs. Everyone here was of a high rank except for me and the omegas that were servants for the party.

Fiona was standing with her best friend Lily, who was about the same height and build as her, talking to the high ranks who came over to congratulate Fiona and celebrate her.

She was wearing a pink form fitting gown that stopped mid-thighs and had no sleeves. It was decorated in sparkling crystals and her hair was curled all the way through. I felt a jealousy tinge at my heart, and I clenched one fist to hold back from expressing any sorts of feelings at all.

All of a sudden, my cousin froze to the ground and I narrowed my eyes at her, I noticed how shaky she was as she took sharp breaths in and my eyes went wide as I recognized the situation, she began to look around frantically until her eyes landed in one place, the alpha of the blood moon pack.

"Mate," she gasped, not wasting time as she ran into his arms.

At that moment, I crumbled internally. This was the same thing that killed my friend, finding her mate. My cousin already had too many good things, and now she had even an alpha as her mate?

She was hugging him tight and he received her without rejection. He was carved with muscles, about six feet and my goddess, he was perfect.

Why the world is so unfair that Nancy, who was nice, rejected by her mate and even commits suicide because of it. And Fiona could have it all easily.

Tears welled in my eyes as everyone turned their attention to the newly found mates, clapping at the beautiful scene unraveling before them and yet here I was at nineteen, no one to even say a happy birthday now that Nancy was gone, no wolf, no mate.

The joy on everyone's faces was sickening, especially my uncle, he was talking to the alpha, he must have been the happiest, knowing this meant there would be a close connection with both packs.

I couldn't take it anymore, I needed a better environment to mourn my friend and myself. As I headed towards the door, the voices of others filled my ears.

"They are so well-matched! Have you seen how beautiful the mates look?"

-"I'm so jealous!"

-"she's mated to the alpha!"

The chants were endless and I tried to block them out, keeping my gaze to the floor so no one paid attention to me. When I noticed the sudden quietness, I quickened my pace, thinking they'd seen me leave until I bumped into the hard object in the opposite direction, causing me to lose my balance and stumble backward, almost falling. Something caught on to me really quick, stabilizing me back on my feet.

I trailed the tanned-looking hand to the face that owned it and my heart skipped a beat, my eyes going wide, it was none other than the lycan, the most respected and feared werewolf to ever exist.

"I… I'm so sorry," I quickly withdrew my hand from his and bowed my head in reverence. It was as good as death to bump into the lycan. I stepped aside to let him and his men pass.

I knew I couldn't leave now, they'd want me to be a part of those that served the lycan.

I watched him leave to go be with my uncle, his cold dark eyes still in my head when he had looked at me. His lashes weren't long, but they were so thick, it almost looked artificial. His shaved face had a small stubble growing in and he was about six feet four. His pink lips were the juiciest I'd ever known, he was better looking than every man I'd seen in my life's what could I expect when he was the lycan.

I rejoined the omegas in the kitchen and only returned back to the event when they were done with arranging the meals. I took my position in the corner I'd been and watched everything going on around me.

Everyone was still paying attention to the lycan as he talked to my uncle, completely forgetting about the new mates. I knew how bitter that would make Fiona feel and for the first time today, that put a smile on my face.

That smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared when I noticed the Lycan's eyes turned to fix on me. He was staring at me, why was he looking at me?
