Desmond's POV

(Next Day)

I woke up tiredly and realised it morning already, it's been a while I had a very nice nap.

I couldn't stop myself from dreaming about them but now I'm glad I'm able to get justice for my father and sister, now I can sleep without any worry.

I remember what I told my mom and sister about what I planned to do, and they didn't seems to be happy with it.

I stood up from the bed and went out of my room and made my way to the parlour then see my little sister on the couch.

" Hey baby" I called and she turned to me.

" Heyy... Big bro" she said excitedly and came to hug me.

" how you doing?" I asked.

" I'm fine.......i heard you came back last night" grace said and I sat beside her.

" yeah......it's quite late so I didn't want to disturb" I said.

" where's mom?" I asked.

" she went out to get something" she answered.

" okay, so how is school?.....how are you blending in? " I asked.

" The school is not bad......i actually made two friends" she said.

" really..... That's good" I replied then I faced the TV.

" so now you've finish whatever you wanted to do, right?" she said.

" uhm...yeah," I replied then my older sister came in.

" morning sis" I greeted.

" morning Des, how was your night?" she asked.

" it was great" I replied.

" aren't you hungry?......there's food in the kitchen" Vickie said.

" nah....not yet" I replied.

" so how's work at the hospital?" I asked.

" not bad......i think I'm liking it there" she said.

" that's good, any guy hitting on you yet?" I asked jokingly.

" shut up, Des" she said and I smiled then my mom entered.

" Good morning, mom....... Welcome back" I said as Grace helped her with her bag.

" How are you Desmond?" mom asked.

" I'm fine, mom" I relied then sat on the couch.

" there's this weird thing I'm hearing on the News on my way back, Grace do you mind changing the channel to a news station" mom said.

" okay mom" she replied then changed channel.

REPORTER : This is a live news from Clifton city, The commissioner of police was murdered last night by this merciless killer that has been terrorising the city for some time now.

" Every police officer in Clifton city refused to resume work all because of the fear the killer instill in all of them.

" For him to go after the commissioner means he's not afraid of anyone.

" What actually amazed everyone is the video recording he made yesterday, admitting to the death of everyone he killed.

" the video actually went viral and it became the talk of the town, here is the video............. " the reporter said then played the video.

" Could this be true?.......is this the reason he killed those police officers?......in the video he said the officers were corrupted......is there any truth in that?"

" Most people believe him while others didn't.......we can't believe the word of a criminal"

" As at right now....this killer is yet to be found, what are the government going to do about it"

" are you sure the commissioner is among them?.......cause he and your father seems to be close.......i don't believe he can do such" mom said.

" Mom, trust me.......he's the mastermind behind everything......he's the devil" I replied.

" what a world......no one can be trusted again" Vickie said.

" some people are not who we really think they are" I said.

" I'm just happy all this is over" mom said.

" so Des, have you changed your decision about what you said yesterday?" Vickie asked.

" Sis.....I've made up my mind already and I'm not changing anything" I said.

" no you can't be serious about this.......why would you even think of that?" she said.

" what do you mean?........there's nothing wrong in being a police officer" I said.

" there's so much wrong with it.......how could you even think of that especially with what happened to us" she said.

" exactly one of the reason for me to be there" I said.

" look......I'm not against you getting justice for dad......but this I'm not in support of this" she said.

" I don't need your permission Vickie, I will do whatever I wish to do" I said.

" Desmond, can't you just listen to your sister for once........why are you being so stubborn" mom said.

" mom, she should understand as well that this is what I want to do and I'm going for it" I said.

" the same profession that got Dad and Mercy killed, is the same one you're trying to go for.......don't you see what's left of our family" she said.

" If you don't care about yourself......we do, cause if anything happens we will be the one to feel it first" she said.

" you can't do this Desmond........we've been listening to you all this time, with you making the decision, it's time for you to listen to us......enough is enough...... You're not doing this and that's final" she said.

" like I said earlier......i don't care what you say, you can't tell me what to do or not.....this is my decision to make not yours" I said.

" Enough Both of you" mom shouted.

" No mom, I need to let him understand something" she said.

" do you have any idea of what you're talking about or the danger behind this.....you're going to put our family in jeopardy" she said angrily.

" what if something happens to you......you are not God.....if you don't care about how you feel then think about us" she said.

" Then maybe you need to stop caring about me......consider me dead with dad and Mercy in that accident......cause I'm supposed to be dead but I'm alive today because of this reason.......th

ere's nothing you can say that will make me change my mind" I said then she slapped me.

" STOP it...... both of you......this shouldn't be happening" mom said.

" I hope you are right about your decision, I really hope you don't ruin your life while at it" Vickie said then went to her room.

" Desmond, what is wrong with you?.....why are you doing this?......what has come over you?" mom cried.

" Mom.....you need to know this is what I want to go for.......i didn't choose her career for her, so she shouldn't do that for me" I said.

" you should know she just care about you as we all do, the system is corrupt, it's not like the same anymore......the law is blind and stupid" mom said.

" mom.....which is why someone need to make the change, someone needs to step up" I said.

" I really hope it's as easy as you dream " she said.

" I never said it's easy mom......i just want to make a difference" I said.

" are you sure about this?" mom asked.

" yes mom......this is what I want to do" I replied.

" fine then......whenever you're ready" She said.

" thanks mom " I said then hug her.

" you should apologize to your sister" mom said.

" yeah mom.......i will" I said then she went to her room.

I sat back beside Grace and noticed her countenance is not bright as well.

" oh c'mon.....don't tell me you're angry with me too" I said.

" must you do this?.......we are living a Happy New Life here without any worry......why do you have to this?" Grace said.

" it's because I have to......it's what I want" I replied.

" what if something happens to you?.....I can't bear to lose you too" she said about to cry.

" nothing will happen to me......I promise to be careful" I replied then embrace her.

Few minutes later, I went to Vickie's room then knocked and after a while she came to open and stood by the door.

" what do you want?" she asked.

" I just want to talk" I said.

" have you decided to change your mind?" she asked.

" No" I replied.

" then there's nothing to talk about" she said then made to close the door.

" oh stop that already" I said then yank the door open and let myself in.

" you slapped me I should be one that gets angry not you" I said then jump on her bed.

" I'm your sister I can do that besides you deserve it for being crazy" she said then I pick a textbook on the shelve then she collected it from me.

" what do you want Desmond?.......what are you doing here?" she asked.

" fine.....I'm here to apologize and......" I said.

" and....... " she said.

" and to tell you that I'm not changing my decision" I said and her expression changed.

" listen Sis......i understand what you're trying to say......but this is what I want to do......." I said.

" but I'm scared for you Desmond" she said.

" you don't have to.....it's not as hard as it is in the army.....you have no idea what we face at war" I said.

" at least you have people to watch your back........you have those you could call brothers that will look out for you" she said then continue.

" but it's not the same in line of police......those you trusted are the one that will put you down.....the police don't fight with criminals.... They fight with themselves" she said.

" I understand what you meant Sis.....but I promise to be careful" I said.

" you're one stubborn boy Desmond, too stubborn" she said and I smiled.

" soldier never give up.......once a soldier always a soldier" I said.

" just be safe.....that's all I want" she said.

" I will.... I promise" I replied then hug her.

" so are we cool?" I asked.

" Nah...to be candid I'm not happy with it ....but let's see how it goes" she said.

" love you" I said.

" you better don't let my boyfriend hear that" she said.

" uh uh.......so someone is indeed hitting on you........so who is it? " I teased.

" shut up......I'm not saying anything" she said then went out.

My family finally agree to me being police officer, I know what I'm going for, I know the kind of danger I'm stirring but I'm ready for it.

I've made plans to keep everything about it away from my family, I decided that no one will know about my family background cause that's the only way to keep them safe.

There's only one final step for me to clear everything about me but I need help to do it so I put a call through to my best friend Steve.

" Hello" he said.

" hello steve" I said.

" please who am I speaking with?" he asked.

" it's Desmond" I said.

" whoever you are trying to pretend as my best friend......just know that I can find and make you suffer...... And just for you to know right now you're Lagos, you're using a Samsung note4, which you bought about two month ago along with your two sim on the same day........should I continue listing everything about you and your location while I hacked into that little phone of yours or would you tell me exactly who you are" he said and I smiled.

" you never changed Steve, it's me Deedee" I said and I heard him gasped, only him calls me that.

" oh my God Desmond, it's really you" he said excitedly.

" yeah man.....it's me" I said.

" I heard what happened to you, everyone believe you die...... What happened man?" he asked.

" it's a long story bruh.....some people want us dead but luckily I got to them first" I said.

" ughh....that's so great......i was so heartbroken when I heard the news, I'm glad you're all okay" he said.

" Actually Steve.....not all" I said.

" what do you mean? " he asked.

" My dad and my sister Mercy were killed" I said.

" oh my.....I'm so sorry deedee.....i really am" he said.

" yeah thanks" I replied.

" are you coming back?......I'm sure the guys will be happy to know you're alive" he said.

" actually.....it's one of the reason I called........i need it to be like that.....i need them to believe that" I said.

" really?.....why?" he asked.

" I need your help" I said.

" whatever you need bruh" he said.

" I need you to wipe my data off the military record, everything about me both in school and in training.......any record about me wipe it clean" I said.

" whaat?...why?.....you know if I do that.......you can't undo it" he said.

" I'm not planning on doing that.......please do that for me" I said.

" no problem bro.......anything for you" he said.

" I'm going to do something very dangerous, so I want us to stop contacting each other.......if it is urgent send me the usual code" I said.

" you're always going for something dangerous...... Remember you are human not God" he said.

" don't worry about me" I said.

" take care brother" he said.

" and you too" I said then ended the call.

Now, first step has been done, I need to start with the next.

I'm going to police college for training and The exam to gain entrance will start by next month .

Before then I've started working out and making preparations, I know exactly what I'm going to expect.

I ordered for some advance technology online which will be shipped into the country in a few weeks.

I don't plan on wasting time when I get there, I need to add more to the things I don't know when I get there.

(one month later)

I will be going for the exam in two days time which is the start of everything for me, so I called my family to discuss with them.

" As you all know I will be going for the exam in two days time, and I will be leaving tomorrow, I just want you to know it will change everything.

I won't be coming here again so you will have to look after each other.

I won't lie to you what I'm about to do is dangerous, I will make lots of enemies and I can't be seen anywhere around you in other to protect you.

What I'm going to do is not a bad thing but people don't want good thing so they stop those that wanted to do it.

Don't tell anyone about me, let no one know about our family, let no one know you have a brother.

Cause when I'm gone I won't be Desmond or David, I will be someone else, cause I have to change my identity again.

Don't call me, I won't call you either cause I will try my best to protect you in every way I could.

This is the way you're going to communicate with me, whenever you want to communicate you will send me a code.

Code Green mean All is well just want to check on you.

Code Blue means all is well we just want you to come over or we just want to see you.

Code Yellow means warning....not too well but urgently needed.

Code Red means there's a problem or Danger.....urgently needed" I said.

" I can't believe we are actually doing this? " Vickie said.

" it's the only way for me to be sure you're safe" I said.

" and the last thing which I'm going on knees to beg you is that" I said then went on my knees.

" Please, please and please don't involve yourself in any mischievous or evil act.

Don't go against things that we believed in cause I won't the able to save you......i won't support evil act or misdeeds......please I'm begging you I don't want to hurt any member of my family" I said then I sit back on the couch.

" I will be going for my training in Clifton City and register myself there as well, I want to begin at that very place" I said.

(Next Day)

Since everything I will be needing is already packed, I took them all out to the parlour.

My family helped my with my things and put them into the Taxi, I hugged my family one after the other.

They are all in tears which make me wonder what's wrong with women and tears.

I bade them goodbye and entered the taxi then the driver drove off to the garage.
