Killian's POV
"Why didn't the curse kill her?" I berated no one in particular as I stormed into my private quarters. "Why is she still alive?" "Honestly, I have no answer to that question, Lord Wolfe." Ronan, who had followed me, replied with caution. "I find the outcome strange." I arched a brow, but it seemed he wasn't done talking. "First of all, she's the first rogue given to you as a mate," He continued. "Secondly, she looks like she knows nothing about the curse. I believe we should find the prophetess." I snorted. "That's like going on a hopeless mission, Ronan. Soteria is not that easy to find. I need answers now. Why didn't she die?" "Probably because she's the one you've been waiting for" Ronan hinted, and I frowned. "What do you mean?" I asked. Ronan shrugged. "You had the same thoughts too, didn't you? That was why you're decided to keep her instead of sending her to her grave like every other trespassers. I believe she's the one the prophecy told us about." I remained unconvinced. "If she's truly the one, why did the moon goddess have to go through the trouble of sending my previous mates to me? What prevented her from sending just the one I needed to break the curse?" "I have no idea, Lord Wolfe" Ronan replied, sighing heavily. "I strongly suggest that we search for the prophetess. It might take weeks or even months, but till then, we have the opportunity to study her." I exhaled heavily, contemplating on his words. It made sense; at least, for now. "Fine" I voiced out. "Make preparations for her at the maid quarters, then get her out of that cell. Also, make sure she isn't comfortable. I want her to go through hell for thinking she could reject me." "Your wish is my command, Lord Wolfe." Ronan replied with a bow, turning to leave. "I'll do that and keep you updated." The moment he left, I walked towards the window, staring at the sky coldly. The sun had set, and the moon was reflecting a bit. If killing the moon goddess was possible, she would have died many times in my hands for making me go through the torture of finding a perfect mate all these years. Anyways, the prophetess could be the one to pay for her sins. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. My sense of smell sharpened as I sniffed. Immediately, I could tell who it was. "Come in," I said icily without looking back. The door creaked open, and the clicking of heels made my ears twitch. "What do you want, Valerie?" I asked with a cold voice. I heard a soft chuckle. "Come on, Killian. I have the right to come say hi anything I want." I scoffed. What audacity? "Let this be the last time I correct you, Valerie" I stated, turning to her. "It's Lord Wolfe to you. Also, I don't remember giving you the right to barge into my quarters when you like." She pouted like a spoilt brat. "Why can't I? We grew up together. I'm basically the only woman who understands you. Who knows? Maybe the reason why your mates keep dying is because they're not a perfect match for you. I am...." "Enough" I cut her off sharply. "You've said too much, Valerie. Leave now." "Why didn't she die?" Valerie questioned sharply. I got confused. "Who?" "Your new mate" Valerie revealed. "I went to see her in her cell." I was speechless for a moment. When I found my voice, my anger rose with it. "What did you do?" I berated, my claws elongated. Our relationship was the only thing that kept me at bay, or I would have butchered her a long time ago. Valerie shrugged. "Nothing much. I was only trying to prepare her for the truth. She's going to die sooner or later and you know it." "What?!" I spat in rage. "Did you mention the curse to her?" "Does it matter?" Valerie retorted. "She's going to die anyway. What made you decide to keep a weakling like her?" "How dare you question my decision?" I scowled. My wolf was already livid. One of the things we hated was people questioning our authority. "You're crossing the lane, Valerie" I added, my voice laced with warning. "Stay away from her." Valerie scoffed. "Why must you have a destined mate only for her to end up dying? Why can't you choose one instead? Someone powerful and capable enough to rule by your side." I knew where she was going. I wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible. "An Alpha is not allowed to choose a mate" I countered firmly. "It's been like that for centuries." "But it can change from you" Valerie argued. "You're powerful enough to change any law. " I was fed up, but she wasn't done talking. "We can rule together, my dear" She stated, trying to sound vulnerable. "Let's just..." "A witch and A werewolf can't work" I declared with a tone of finality, cutting her off. "I can't claim a witch as my mate." Valerie took a step backward, pain etched on her face. "Who made that law?" She sobbed. "No one needs to make it, Valerie. It has never been heard of, and it won't start from me, " I declared. "Now, leave my quarters." "But..." "I said leave" I ordered sternly. "The next time I hear that you spoke to her, you'll face my wrath. Get out of my quarters!" Valerie hesitated, but turned to leave. The moment she stepped out, I let out a deep breath to cool off. Who the hell did she think she was? It was all my father's fault; rescuing a pregnant witch. My mother was against it, but she had no say in the matter. That witch ended up birthing the spoilt brat and dying in the process. I was a bit skeptical about her response. I needed to see if... I didn't even know her name. With a deep breath, I stepped out of my chamber and headed towards the direction of the prison. The cells I passed all held prisoners who were accused of treachery or breaking the law. I found her cell just by sniffing her scent. It was strangely quiet. She laid still on the cold floor, not making a sound. I felt the mate bond tug at me, but that wasn't what caught my attention. It was the scent of blood. I couldn't even hear her heartbeat. Fear seeped into my veins as I thrusted the iron bars open with a flying kick. I rushed in and knelt down before her. The moment I held her body in my arms, my wolf screamed in pain. She was cold.Selene's POVI had never witnessed anything like this before. Everything went from being plain and empty, to suddenly being filled with vibrance— magical lights. It looked to beautiful to be reality and the moon goddess looked even more beautiful. Her beauty radiated in a way that was both soothing and fascinating. It struck me that we bore the same name—Selene. I couldn’t help but grin at that thought. “Selene” really was a name meant for pretty people. Her voice rang out, reaching everywhere.“Greetings, everyone. Welcome to the sacred ceremony. This is a ceremony that, in the time of our ancestors, was held once every century. But now, it is celebrated every decade, and I am glad to see you all gathered here tonight. The sacred ceremony is open to all creatures—werewolves, witches, fairies. By the end of this night, the child of prophecy will be revealed.”The crowd went quier after her words. The Moon goddess lifted her hand. “Now, to thaw the heat of the ceremony, let the lighti
Ronan's POVMy heart was racing. The sacred moment was close, closer than I was ready for, and it was my duty to make sure the guard was ready. No slip-ups. My Alpha and Luna had to push through this whole situation, and it was on me to see that nothing got in their way.“You, right wing. You, left wing. You, back. You, front,” I barked, my voice carrying across the courtyard as I gave orders, pointing to each group of guards. They snapped into place immediately, the sound of boots striking ground in unison.I paced before them, my hands behind my back. “When the time comes, the energy of the ceremony will teleport us straight to the sacred mountains. The moment we land, you do not wait for instructions. You take your position exactly as I’ve drilled it into you. Understood?”“Yes, Beta Ronan!” they thundered back.I nodded once, then lifted a hand. “You two, step forward.” My finger pointed on the pair nearest the front line. They moved quickly, and stood before me. “You are the fro
Killian's POV.The ride from Lucas Chambers felt like forever, even though I knew the Sacred Mountains were quite far. Selene sat close to me, her hand loosely holding mine. I couldn’t stop my arm from wrapping around her and pulling her closer, until I pressed my lips against her hair. The sweet scent of her made the tension ease from me.But every time I kissed her, every time I held her, it was me trying to shake the fear off of me. Fear of the revelation that would come when she was finally revealed as the child of prophecy. Fear of the ritual I would have to perform and fear of what it might take from me.I was supposed to be the cruel, cold-hearted Alpha. But in this moment, my hands trembled, my chest felt too tight, and all I could do was try to be strong for my mate. The wheels of the carriage groaned before coming to a halt. My head lifted, and I peered through the window. The mountain stood before us, cloaked in fog, its peaks were lost in the clouds. The wind howled down
Selene's POV.My cheeks were burning. I couldn’t believe I was actually sitting on Killian’s lap in front of everyone. His arm was around my waist and I could feel the eyes of the maids and servants drifting toward us now and then.Killian looked utterly unbothered. A small smile tugged at his lips, clearly enjoying every bit of this. I wanted to wriggle away, but instead, I found my body heating up because of the closeness. We ended up eating like that—me perched on his lap, his heat seeping into my body. Each time his fingers brushed against me, it was like my mind blanked out My thoughts wandered and I suddenly pictured us alone in his chambers. His body pressed to mine, his hands wrapped around my waist while he thrusts deep inside of me.My breath hitched, and before I could stop myself, my gaze travelled to him.“You’re thinking naughty things, aren’t you?” Killian’s low voice pulled me from the thoughts. His voice sounded teasingly. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment. “Killian
Killian's POVHonestly, the whole ritual still bothered me. The thought of losing her, of losing control and draining her dry terrified me more than anything else I’d ever faced. I wasn’t afraid of wars, of enemies, or even of death. But the possibility of harming Selene? That was unbearable.Yet when I looked at her, she seemed so sure of me. She said she trusted me, and she wanted me to trust myself too. And damn it, I wanted to.I lowered my head and pressed a kiss to her hair. “You won’t die,” I whispered, my hand stroking through her hair. The words were more for me than for her.The bond between us had grown stronger over these last few weeks. I had marked her and the connection that tied us together was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. We spent a little more time with Selene’s mother, and eventually, we decided to go to Dr. Javier's office to speak with him about her condition, and ask if she could be discharged.I walked into Dr.Javier's office with Selene's hand in min
Selene's POV.I woke up to something soft tapping at my arm, pulling me gently out of the warmth of sleep.“Wake up, Selene… baby, wake up.”I couldn’t hear his voice clearly, right away, like I was still lost in the haze of dreaming. But when my eyes blinked open, Killian’s face hovering over mine, his gaze fixed on me with that softness only he could have. The brightness of the room hit me then. Sunlight poured through the window, filling every corner, and I instantly knew it wasn’t early morning anymore. My eyes widened. How late had I slept?I let out a small yawn, stretching slightly, before Killian spoke again.“You slept in so late already. I wouldn’t have woken you, but…” he smiled faintly, “I thought you’d want to go see your mom.”I threw back the covers, swinging out of bed. “Of course! Is she awake now?”Killian chuckled at my reaction, and I could feel his eyes following me. “Yes, she’s awake. Let’s go see her.”Without wasting another second, I dashed into the bathroom.
