Killian's POV
I placed my fingers on her neck to check her pulse. There was a slight heartbeat. "Hey, who's there?!!!!" I roared abruptly, my lungs threatening to burst. "Guards!!!" Almost immediately, four guards burst in, looking terrified. "Lord Wolfe, you called," They stated in unison, bowing their heads in fear. I was livid. "Are you blind?!" I barked. "How come you didn't know about this?" They all shivered in fear. Unfortunately, their death had been sealed. I stood up with her cold body in my arms. "Go wait for me at the inner court," I ordered and walked past them. I got out of the cell. I took off at full speed, refusing to stop until I got to the doctor's quarters. The fear of unleashing the curse had stopped me from shifting, or it would have been faster. A she-wolf approached me. "My Lord, you..."Where's Javier?" I questioned fiercely, cutting her off. "I need him now!" She trembled in fear. "He's currently attending to an injured pup....." I glared hard at her. I didn't need to say a word before she realized her mistake. Instantly, she turned and ran into a room. Soon enough, she came back with a lanky blonde-haired man with blue eyes behind a pair of glasses. He rushed up to me, his eyes fixed on the woman in my arms. "Prepare a room!" He yelled, attempting to take her from my arms. I snarled, scaring him off. Realizing my mistake, I pushed her into his arms. Her blood stained his white coat. She was rushed into a room. I intended on following them, but Javier had the guts to slam the door in my face. I could feel the pain in the mate bond, but it wasn't serious because I was naturally immune to pain. I paced back and forth, trying to understand why I hadn't left her to die. I guessed I did that because of the conclusion Ronan and I came to, or so I thought to convince myself. "Lord Wolfe!" Called a familiar voice, and I halted my steps. Ronan appeared before me with a frown on his face. "I met the guards you sent to the inner court, and I got the news. I was going to update you on the task you assigned to me, " He revealed, frowning deeply. "Who could have tried to kill her in her cell?" My mind went back to the injury on her chest. I didn't want to believe it, but the traces of spells showed that it was the handiwork of a witch. "Valerie!" I declared coldly. "What?!" Ronan exclaimed in shock. "Why would she try to kill her?" I snorted. "Why are you acting ignorant? We both know what she wants." Ronan sighed. "I thought she already came back to her senses. A wolf and a witch just can't be together. What do you plan to do to her? "Torture her" I replied, my veins bulging in anger. "Immense torture. Next time, she won't dare to think of going against me."Okay, Lord Wolfe. Let's wait and hear Javier's report, " Ronan suggested. "Exactly what I'm waiting for," I replied. A few hours passed before Javier came out of the room, adjusting his glasses. "Lord Wolfe!" He called, bowing his head. I could clearly single out her voice from the others in the room, but I wanted a confirmation from the doctor. "Is she alive?" I asked, and Javier nodded in response. "She is, but she needs to rest for quite a number of days," Javier replied. "Her recovery process shouldn't be trifled with or the aftermath would be severe. Dealing with wounds cast by spells can be very tricky." I inhaled sharply. "Alright then. I have other things to deal with. I'll be back to see her." "Alright, Lord Wolfe. Be rest assured she's in good hands, " Javier said confidently. I had no reason to doubt his words, so I turned to Ronan. "Let's head to the inner court. My wolf won't rest if I don't deal with those negligent guards." "Alright, Lord Wolfe, " He replied. Soon, we arrived at the inner court. My eyes settled on the guards kneeling before my seat, and the memory of that woman lying in the pool of blood came back alive. It fueled my rage. My fangs grew, and my claws extended. One thing was certain - their deaths. I made myself comfortable on my seat, watching as their body shook endlessly with fear. Unfortunately, I wasn't satisfied. "Why did you let Valerie into the cell?" I questioned. "Don't make me repeat myself. "We thought you wouldn't mind, my Lord." One of them had the courage to respond. "We didn't know she would try to kill someone." I exhaled heavily. "What was the main rule I gave to you? Never let anyone except my Beta and I into the prison cells. You effortlessly broke that rule, and now, you'll have to face the consequences of your actions. Don't worry, I won't be the one to deal with you, your fellow guards will." I snapped my fingers, and guards rushed forward. "Take them to the furnace. Burn them alive, " I ordered. The offenders begged for their lives, but their cries fell on deaf ears. "Lucas," I summoned another guard. "I need Valerie. Don't force her to come." Immediately he left, I shifted my entire focus to Ronan. "You look disturbed," I stated, frowning. Too bad I couldn't read his thoughts. Only mates could do that. "I am," He replied, his voice solemn. "There's a huge problem. It's about Lucian." I stood up abruptly. "The immortal?" "Yes, Lord Wolfe, " Ronan affirmed. "Why him?" I queried. "That man has been in hiding for hundreds of years now."Well, it seems he's back," Ronan replied. "He has summoned all the witches for a meeting. I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be in our favour. We need to act fast." As soon as we ended the conversation with a tacit conclusion, two people rushed in - a guard and a nurse. "What's the problem?" Ronan questioned. The two of them exchanged glances before the guard decided to speak. "Lady Valerie is nowhere to be found. One of the guards said he saw her leaving through the main gate." I looked at Ronan, who seemed to be having the same thoughts with me. I returned my gaze to the nurse. "And you?" "The patient is awake," She reported. I sighed deeply, contemplating on my next line of action. "You know what? Get her moved to the maid quarters, " I ordered. "Huh... But the wound on her chest hasn't healed yet, " the nurse stated with caution. "Do as I say." I fired coldly. She bowed and turned to leave. I turned to the guard. "Tell the guards at the gate to keep their eyes on the lookout for her. Let me know when she gets back." "Yes, my Lord, " He replied and left. "We need to keep an eye on her," Ronan suggested, and I nodded in affirmation. "I need to see that weak mate of mine," I revealed. Ronan chuckled. "So you've finally accepted the fact that she's your mate." I snarled. "Watch your mouth, Ronan."Selene's POVI had never witnessed anything like this before. Everything went from being plain and empty, to suddenly being filled with vibrance— magical lights. It looked to beautiful to be reality and the moon goddess looked even more beautiful. Her beauty radiated in a way that was both soothing and fascinating. It struck me that we bore the same name—Selene. I couldn’t help but grin at that thought. “Selene” really was a name meant for pretty people. Her voice rang out, reaching everywhere.“Greetings, everyone. Welcome to the sacred ceremony. This is a ceremony that, in the time of our ancestors, was held once every century. But now, it is celebrated every decade, and I am glad to see you all gathered here tonight. The sacred ceremony is open to all creatures—werewolves, witches, fairies. By the end of this night, the child of prophecy will be revealed.”The crowd went quier after her words. The Moon goddess lifted her hand. “Now, to thaw the heat of the ceremony, let the lighti
Ronan's POVMy heart was racing. The sacred moment was close, closer than I was ready for, and it was my duty to make sure the guard was ready. No slip-ups. My Alpha and Luna had to push through this whole situation, and it was on me to see that nothing got in their way.“You, right wing. You, left wing. You, back. You, front,” I barked, my voice carrying across the courtyard as I gave orders, pointing to each group of guards. They snapped into place immediately, the sound of boots striking ground in unison.I paced before them, my hands behind my back. “When the time comes, the energy of the ceremony will teleport us straight to the sacred mountains. The moment we land, you do not wait for instructions. You take your position exactly as I’ve drilled it into you. Understood?”“Yes, Beta Ronan!” they thundered back.I nodded once, then lifted a hand. “You two, step forward.” My finger pointed on the pair nearest the front line. They moved quickly, and stood before me. “You are the fro
Killian's POV.The ride from Lucas Chambers felt like forever, even though I knew the Sacred Mountains were quite far. Selene sat close to me, her hand loosely holding mine. I couldn’t stop my arm from wrapping around her and pulling her closer, until I pressed my lips against her hair. The sweet scent of her made the tension ease from me.But every time I kissed her, every time I held her, it was me trying to shake the fear off of me. Fear of the revelation that would come when she was finally revealed as the child of prophecy. Fear of the ritual I would have to perform and fear of what it might take from me.I was supposed to be the cruel, cold-hearted Alpha. But in this moment, my hands trembled, my chest felt too tight, and all I could do was try to be strong for my mate. The wheels of the carriage groaned before coming to a halt. My head lifted, and I peered through the window. The mountain stood before us, cloaked in fog, its peaks were lost in the clouds. The wind howled down
Selene's POV.My cheeks were burning. I couldn’t believe I was actually sitting on Killian’s lap in front of everyone. His arm was around my waist and I could feel the eyes of the maids and servants drifting toward us now and then.Killian looked utterly unbothered. A small smile tugged at his lips, clearly enjoying every bit of this. I wanted to wriggle away, but instead, I found my body heating up because of the closeness. We ended up eating like that—me perched on his lap, his heat seeping into my body. Each time his fingers brushed against me, it was like my mind blanked out My thoughts wandered and I suddenly pictured us alone in his chambers. His body pressed to mine, his hands wrapped around my waist while he thrusts deep inside of me.My breath hitched, and before I could stop myself, my gaze travelled to him.“You’re thinking naughty things, aren’t you?” Killian’s low voice pulled me from the thoughts. His voice sounded teasingly. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment. “Killian
Killian's POVHonestly, the whole ritual still bothered me. The thought of losing her, of losing control and draining her dry terrified me more than anything else I’d ever faced. I wasn’t afraid of wars, of enemies, or even of death. But the possibility of harming Selene? That was unbearable.Yet when I looked at her, she seemed so sure of me. She said she trusted me, and she wanted me to trust myself too. And damn it, I wanted to.I lowered my head and pressed a kiss to her hair. “You won’t die,” I whispered, my hand stroking through her hair. The words were more for me than for her.The bond between us had grown stronger over these last few weeks. I had marked her and the connection that tied us together was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. We spent a little more time with Selene’s mother, and eventually, we decided to go to Dr. Javier's office to speak with him about her condition, and ask if she could be discharged.I walked into Dr.Javier's office with Selene's hand in min
Selene's POV.I woke up to something soft tapping at my arm, pulling me gently out of the warmth of sleep.“Wake up, Selene… baby, wake up.”I couldn’t hear his voice clearly, right away, like I was still lost in the haze of dreaming. But when my eyes blinked open, Killian’s face hovering over mine, his gaze fixed on me with that softness only he could have. The brightness of the room hit me then. Sunlight poured through the window, filling every corner, and I instantly knew it wasn’t early morning anymore. My eyes widened. How late had I slept?I let out a small yawn, stretching slightly, before Killian spoke again.“You slept in so late already. I wouldn’t have woken you, but…” he smiled faintly, “I thought you’d want to go see your mom.”I threw back the covers, swinging out of bed. “Of course! Is she awake now?”Killian chuckled at my reaction, and I could feel his eyes following me. “Yes, she’s awake. Let’s go see her.”Without wasting another second, I dashed into the bathroom.
