My heart stopped, and everything went silent. I looked around and realized I was on my own to respond, so I said, "Of course, I love Kai and everything about him, but as you know, he is very reserved about himself."

I wish I could hear someone's inner thoughts; it would be a secret gift I wished I possessed, and I could not have been happier when she replied, "Well, that is Kai for you; he is so quiet about his life that you will not know what is going on."

It felt like I was in front of judges, and you should have seen the relief and smile on my face. "So, how did you get to know Kai again?" I need to learn anything I can about him.

"Well, we were close friends since childhood. Our parents had known each other for a long time, so it was only natural for the two of us to be close."

"Where is Kai's family? I can not find a picture anywhere?" was the next question I decided to ask after mentally storing that information. Looking around to prove my point to her, there is no picture of a family in the spacious living room.

Her expression fell, and her voice grew quiet as she explained, "He lost his family years ago and has been by himself ever since. It was a car accident, and his sister, mother, and father were all in the car when it happened. He has always been a quiet person, and I would say that his level of quietness increased after the accident.

Considering what she said, I genuinely do not know what to say because I understand the pain, anguish, and emotion that come with losing someone you love. You feel are in great pain because the space in your heart cannot be filled.

The pain of losing my daughter is still very much present in my thoughts. Hearing Kai's story, who has lost family members, I wonder how he coped with such pain and how he managed to continue.

"He will not be alone or lonely any longer, so I am glad he found someone to spend his time with. You two are a perfect match." I can not wait for you to get married," she replied cheerfully.

I did not want to ruin her good mood, so I asked her to show me the dress designs she had on her tab and the other tasks that needed to be completed. She showed me a  assortment of dresses, and I must say that I was amazed.

A long flared gown with long sleeves, a high neck, and a V-shaped opening at the back was the first dress I saw, and it was stunning. How elegant and simple it is.

However, the second one really caught my eye. It has a long, deep neckline that reaches the waist, full pleating around the down portion, and long, straight sleeves that give it a sophisticated, exquisite appearance.

"I will take the second one," I said, having seen enough.

"I can honestly say that Kai made a wise decision; you made the right one," she said, beaming at me.

Getting tired of choosing what decor to use, the seating arrangement, and everything else would be an understatement. So this is how it feels to plan a wedding. I never had one; all I had was Ken arranging for a priest to perform the wedding for us so that we could be legally married and known as husband and wife.

I made the decision to say goodbye to Sloane in order to avoid being pulled back into the past. She got up, packed her belongings, and departed, saying we would see each other again. As my hunger begins to grow, I glance around and notice the kitchen.

I was astounded by how large and light the kitchen was when I first entered. Cindy and the other maid who had brought my breakfast were talking near the kitchen island when they noticed me.

Cindy wiped her hands with a towel and asked, "What do you need, Ma?" You could have called, and we would have answered it."

"I am here already, and I just want a snack and someone to talk to. I do not want to bother you."

She had already started baking chocolate cookies and tarts, which looked good, so she kept going. The other maid was staring at me as if she wanted to say something.

"What is your name, then?" You did not tell me when I asked this morning."

I can tell by the expression on her face that she does not like me at all. Cindy's nudge appears to have worked, as she turned to face me and said, "My name is Lucy."

"Well, Lucy, it is nice to meet you," I said. I washed my hands in the sink and turned to assist with the cookie baking after taking a look around and getting myself useful.

I have gotten some information about Kai from Sloane; let me see if I can get more elsewhere. "When does Kai get home from work? How do you get ready? What do you do when he gets home?" I asked.

They exchanged glances as if they were discussing a private matter.

"I am just curious about Kai, his activities, and other things. That should not be so difficult, in my opinion, that you two had to exchange a secret code."

They are all keeping me in the dark, and I am starting to get frustrated and a little angry about it. I can not allow Kai to know everything about me while I do not know anything about him.

"Nothing is being withheld from you; it is just that nobody has ever inquired about Master before. We apologize for our behavior; all of this is new to us."

If I do not get along with them, I doubt I will be able to get what I want, so I need to calm down and not blow this up.

"I apologize for raising my voice at you guys." I apologized. "Have you guys been with Kai since the incident?" "Sloane told me about what happened to his family." I inquired.

"Sir has always been a quiet person, but he was not like this; he used to smile a lot and adored his sister. He was about thirteen years old when it happened, and he has always been trained for the future, particularly by his father, on how to run the company when it is passed down to him."

"If you ask me, I believe they placed a great deal of responsibility on him; it is as if he is not free," Lucy explained.

After I nodded in agreement with Lucy's statement, Cindy shot her a stern look and told Lucy, "You better be careful with what you say; the walls have ears."

I had to check around to see if anyone was observing us because it would be very unsettling if they were.

I was about to ask the next question when I heard a voice that sent shivers down my spine.

"You could have asked me any questions you wanted; you do not have to start interrogating my employees for information."

Speaking of the devil.

Today is a new day with new beginnings, so let us see what lies ahead.I got out of bed, showered in the bathroom, changed into an off-shoulder blue floral gown and white sandals, and then went downstairs to the kitchen. There will not be any need to serve me in my room because I know my way around now. There was already breakfast in the dining room, with pastries like Italian croissants (cornetto) and double-baked toast (fette biscottate) topped with jam and honey and served with cappuccino or espresso on the table. This is a simple breakfast. As Lucy served Kai, I noticed that he was sipping his coffee and reading from his tablet. After saying "morning" out loud to no one in particular, I sat down and got myself some breakfast."Whenever you want to go dress shopping, I have a car ready for you." From his side of the table, Kai spoke. He said, "A driver will be available for you, you can buy anything you need," as he looked at me."Thank you," I said.He gave a nod, then got up to

I am not sure how long he had been standing there listening to what we were saying.Turning to him, I said, "You are not really available for me to ask you questions, and I apologize if it appears that I am invading your privacy. The timmer of the oven rang out, breaking the silence in the room: "Saved by the bell." As Lucy turned to retrieve the plates, Cindy stepped forward to remove the baked cookies from the oven.I approached Kai and said, "Hello, would you like to take a shower first or some freshly made cookies? How is your day at work?To be completely honest, I have no idea why I said that to him; perhaps it stuck with me because I am so accustomed to treating Ken in the same way.He gave me a strange look, but at least I care about him, or at least I thought so, even though this is not a romantic relationship."What are you attempting to do?" In fact, he appeared perplexed as he asked. He seemed to have never been asked a question like this before."I am used to taking care o
