CHAPTER 10: MY KIDS

Alexander

My mouth wide open agape, my gaze stuck to her back view like a glue, following each and every step she took out. It was hastened, like she despised my presence so much and being around me was poison for her.

I was coming back to Melissa's issue, first of all, I needed to deal with this new tick I just found myself.

I suddenly seized her by the arm, adding more pressure into my hold on her.

"What are you doing here, Cindy?" My words came out between gritted teeths.

She winced, her eyes going back and forth, from my hand to my hardened gaze. She tried to free herself from my hold.

"You are hurting me," she cried out but I could care less.

"I'll do more than that if you do not stay out of my life. You are a hooker, stick to that title of yours and never come after me."

My hold relaxed on her suddenly and she sank terribly into one of the seats behind her.

I straightened my suit and started to walk out, without waiting to hear another word from her.

"I love you Alexander," she screamed, earning her my front posture. "I've always loved you ever since I knew you. Just give me a chance, I know I am whatever you call me but I'm ready to drop all that for you. I'll be a good person, I promise."

I looked at her as she took gentle steps towards me. Her eyes were puffy and red from crying. How long had she been crying? I had no idea.

She sniffed and stood right in front of me, clutching her purse in her hand tightly, like it would disappear if she lessened her hold on it. Her brunette hair was packed in a bun, decorated with various beautiful hair clips.

She screamed wealth and affluence, not by the work she chose, but by the way she suddenly carried herself. She was a child born with the silver spoon.

Her words were true, they were like daggers piercing my bleeding heart. Right there, I felt nothing except pity for her.

I know what exactly it meant to love and not be loved in return.

The pads of my palms barely touched her cheeks, caressing them softly.

"I'm sorry Cindy, I–"

"It's Cynthia, my real name is Cynthia. What I do made me shorten it," she said, her voice breaking as she gave the reason behind it.

"Fine, Cynthia," a gentle smile enveloped my face, which she gladly returned. "I'm sorry, I'm in no position to love you. I'm in love with another, that is who my heart beats for."

"The woman who just left?" She questioned. "She doesn't love you. Just a chance is all I want, I'll prove my worth and loyalty to you."

I stepped away from the enclosed space with her. "You don't get to say and please stay away from me."

"If I don't have you Alexander, I swear no one would. I'll do everything in my power to make sure you are mine," she shouted as my rigid back faced her.

Agreed, she was a crazy lady and I just wondered what I had gotten myself into, disregarding it as a woman who has just been rejected.

I could hear her cries loudly as I departed out of the hall, trying to look for Melissa. Praying silently that there's still one more chance to right my wrongs.

I stepped outside the hall and saw the environment getting fewer and fewer with people. Melissa stood at a distance, talking with a man. Her kids, playing with themselves, not far from where she stood.

Her countenance said so much about the conversation, I could tell she wasn't in the mood for that conversation. She kept forcing laughs and smiles in order to shoo him away but the man wasn't catching the drift and he just kept talking.

My legs almost gave out on their own, I was scared to approach her again. Not after the memories from 7 years ago, living rent free in my head. I dialed Barker's number, I needed to be sure of my suspicions.

"Good afternoon Sir Alexander," he said into the phone immediately he picked up.

"Uhmmmm Barker, I do have a question for you. Do you remember my wife, Melissa, from 7 years ago?"

"Oh yes Sir Alexander, I do remember her. Is there any problem with her?"

"7 years ago, the last time Felix brought her to the hospital. Did you remove her pregnancy?"

His other end suddenly went silent. I feared what his answer might be. Deep down, I begged for yes and still at the same time, I hoped he'd say no. I didn't know if I was ready to face his answer if it came out as a no.

My patience level was running low with the way he kept quiet, it was messing with my entire head. "Are you still there, Barker?"

"Pardon me Sir Alex but no I didn't remove it," he said. "I gave her a sleeping pill and I just checked the position of her babies, to see if they were healthy."

My defense system shut down like a machine succumbing to its end life. Unconsciously, my hand slowly lowered itself from my hand. I looked at the kids playing, just a few meters away from me. They were mine, they were my kids.

"Why didn't you say anything to me Barker?" I sobered up and every form of anger in my body had dissipated. It had been replaced with fear, pain, worry, concern. It was the first of its kind.

"I wanted her pregnancy to be over 3 months and then I would find a way to tell you but before it could happen she left. There was no way we could abort a pregnancy of over 3 months old," he said.

There was only one thing which was leaving my mouth. "Why?"

"Her womb was becoming weak with the constant abortions, there was a huge possibility of her death or her barrenness. I couldn't live with that, I'm so sorry sir."

I ended the call without saying another word to him, my eyes watered on their own, threatening to fall if I didn't stop them in time. My problems were compounding minute by minute. How could I come now to claim the kids I once wanted dead?
