Chapter seventeen

Victor was different from the way he was in high school. He was more confident and outspoken than he used to be. Physically, he had changed a lot from the little, fragile boy that he used to be to a strong and bold man.

She looked up at him. "Who would've believed back then that you would be as tall as this?". She stood on her toes and put her right hand over his head as if to measure his height.

He laughed "Yeah right..." he paused to think for a while "...maybe Rebecca?"

"Yes. Of course, Rebecca was the only person who believed you would be tall" Evelyn sighed "We were inseparable, the three of us"

"It was the three of us against the world" Michael added

"But..." Evelyn's mood changed " I shouldn't have left you alone. I didn't mean to but I had no choice"

"It is fine. You were just a child, an orphan who was given a scholarship opportunity to study in Europe. I don't think anybody in their right mind would pass up on that rare opportunity" he replied.
