View MoreI didn't mean to come home early. If I hadn't... maybe I wouldn't have seen it. Maybe I will still be kept in the dark and stay stupid. Stayed in love.
I took out my spare key as I stood outside our shared bedroom... but something felt off. It was quiet. Too quiet. "Francis? Are you home?" I pushed the door open and my heart stopped. My whole world shattered. There they are. My boyfriend and my sister. On the bed. Wrapped around each other like I never existed. Eight years. Eight years of love... erased in one moment. "Lilary—I-I can explain—wait—" His voice sounded panicked. Guilty. I let out a small laugh, "Pathetic." I looked at my sister and walked towards them with a calm expression. I refuse to break in front of them. Not now, not ever. But I won't let them go easily either. "I hope it was worth it," I whispered before shifting my attention to my boyfriend. I slapped him hard on the face that made my sister tremble. "We're done." I stated then turned to my sister. I gave her a smile before slapping her hard. “Even my palm is not worthy of touching such disgrace." " How dare you slap me!” Hanah said and was about to slap me. I grabbed her hand and slapped her again. " I know that you envy me and are very desperate to walk in the same shoes I wore… but I didn't know you would stoop so low." I said and I can see her gritting her teeth. I let go of her hand and she desperately covered herself with the blanket. “Lilary, honey, I can explain. Let's talk please?” Francis begged. I looked at him and laughed, " What's there to explain? You cheated, Francis." “You were just so busy all the time-" “Busy to help you pay your debt!" I shouted at him. “Even your own father didn't help you because you're like this.” I said and I could see him froze. " Take back what you said!" He yelled and was about to stand but Sarah touched her arm to stop him from doing so. I walked towards the door and faced them, “Don't think that this is over." I said and walked away. I booked a nearby hotel and stayed for the night. I sat on the edge of the hotel bed, still in my clothes. The room is quiet but my mind isn't. If they could betray me like I meant nothing... then I will make sure they lose everything. My phone lights up and I open it. Francis calling. I stared at it and let it ring until it stopped. I sighed and a message followed immediately. "Please, just talk to me. I can explain, it's not what you think." "Not what I think?" I mumbled. "I saw everything. I witnessed it in my own eyes." I turned off my phone and decided to rest for the night but my phone lights up again and another notification pops up. It's from an unknown number. I opened it. "Miss Cruz, this is regarding Mr. Francis Hemenez's unpaid balance..." My jaw tightened and slowly, I sat up straighter. "So this is how it is..." I muttered. I scrolled through old messages, emails, bank records—everthing I once ignored out of love. Now, I can see it all clearly. It's been in front of me all along. Debts. Lies. Excuses. All of it. That night, something inside me changed. My gaze dropped back to my phone and a bold idea crept into my mind. I knew exactly how to get my revenge. I went to the internet and started doing my research. One name. One man. Dominic Hemenez. My ex-boyfriend's powerful, untouchable, dangerous father. I read his articles, interviews, and business profiles. I bit my lower lip. A man who doesn't forgive weakness. I clicked one of his photos and stared at it. A slow smile formed on my lips. Perfect. "Let's see how long you can stand watching me ruining your lives."Dominic left me five minutes ago to think, and I kept reading the records over and over again.I went through everything the files could give. Dates. Amounts. Signatures. Transfers. Everything.I closed my eyes tightly for a brief moment. How come I was so naive not to notice these signs? My head was already starting to ache and my visions started going blurry with these unexpected revelations, and I felt so stupid for not noticing the patterns sooner.I opened my eyes and took a deep breath before I kept reading until I found something very disturbing. My eyebrows furrowed and my heart raced faster than normal. I traced my finger over the file as I saw some dates that matched moments when Francis asked me for money. My hands started shaking as I realized something."While Dominic was paying Francis for his debts... he was also taking money from me," my voice trembled as I murmured.Something inside me shifted that I somehow could not name."He was receiving double payments!" My hands
I slowly handed the tablet back to Dominic, my hand shaking slightly.I bit my inner cheek slightly.I don't know why my hand is shaking. It is because I was nervous? Is it excitement? I don't know.He took it without a word."So I officially got my first threat? That's an achievement after being married for like three or four days?" I said, trying to lighten up the mood when I saw his expression didn't change. His eyes scanned the message again and I felt the air get colder with each passing second. My phone suddenly rang and Dominic looked at my pocket like a hawk.I fished out my phone from my pocket, expecting another direct threat but frowned.Francis calling."What does he want to say now?" I muttered and turned off my phone."Who was calling?" Dominic asked as he walked towards his desk and placed the tablet down carefully."Francis." I said simply and walked towards him.He opened another screen on his laptop, "What are you doing?" I asked. Almost quietly."Tracing it."I frow
I walked beside Dominic as we stepped out of the boardroom. Silence immediately followed us and it was not comfortable but rather heavy with something that lingers... like watching. Thinking about it gives me chills but also kind of exciting. "You spoke too soon." His voice was calm and controlled as always. I didn't look at him and kept walking beside him, "Because it mattered." "That's not the point, Mrs. Hemenez." I finally looked at him and for a moment, I was lost in his gaze as he was already looking at me. "You made yourself visible, that wasn't part of the plan." My eyebrows furrowed, "Are you implying that I should be invisible about this matter? Because you didn't say I had to." "Because I didn't think I had to." I almost scoff. There it was. That unforgettable quiet arrogance. I tilted my head slightly, "Then you have to think again." His eyes darkened slightly, "You're pushing boundaries again, Mrs. Hemenez." "And you're holding back information I needed, Mr.
"You claimed that you're not nervous yet you're fidgeting like a child who stole candies."My head snapped to look at Dominic, "Just mind your own business.""You're my wife. You're my business."I bit my lower lip.Damn him.I looked outside the window as I exhaled slowly. When we arrived at his company, my jaw almost fell by how massive it is.Sure, I already expected that it's huge, but seeing this up close, it's more than I expected. It's intimidating... just like him.Staffs bowed as we walked past them. The boardroom was colder than I had expected. But it's not because of the temperature but rather in the atmosphere. The moment the doors opened, every conversation inside stopped. It went quiet.Their eyes turned but not because of curiosity but rather assessing... judging.I walked in beside Dominic, my steps steady and my expression is composed despite the nervousness I felt buried inside me.A long table stretched across the room, filled with men in tailored suits. These weren
